A month in Europe, Asia or Africa

If you got one month to discover a continent which one would you choose? It might be Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas or Australasia. Which places would you like to see? It might be cities, mountains, beaches and the countryside. What sort of accommodation would you choose? Would it be a 5 star hotel, a cheap backpackers hostel or a locally owned guest house?

I think I would go to Australasia, to Australia and New Zealand and maybe a remote island or two. I've been to Europe and as I live here it's easy to just go around. Asia's a bit too hot for me most of the time, although I would love to travel in Northern China. Blame the BBC (I think), I've just seen a documentary about the Wild China and it was really wild and looked fantastic. Some of the parts of Asia that aren't too warm seems to be a bit too dangerous or very difficult to get too. I've never been to Africa so one month wouldn't be enough :-) And I liked Australia and New Zealand better than the US, so I would go down-under. New Zealand had the best back-packer hostels I've been to, except the one in Queenstown. The ones I lived in in Australia where also good. Not that great but good, so I'll probably go for the same. I think I would like to go there either in the spring or in the autumn, 'cause then it won't be too warm to visit my friends. One just south of Sydney, on in *Perth and from next year on, one somewhere out in the bush in Queensland. Then I'd go for the North Island on New Zealand since that's where my two friends there live, and the time I was there we saw mainly things on the South Island. *goes of to look for flight tickets and day dream*

Thanks for your excellent response. I think you would have a great time exploring Australia and New Zealand plus a few of the remote islands. I loved visiting the North Island of New Zealand. I went to Northland and thought wow! It is lovely you would visit your friends.

I'd definitely choose Africa. I would try to find local guides and mainly focus on meeting the people and experiencing the culture there. I would also prefer to stay with the local people in return for helping them with odd jobs and chores. I don't agree with the Western vacation attitude of going to a built up resort town and never leaving the hotel area unless it's for big guided tours or shopping. The only way to really discover a place is by surrounding yourself with the locals.

I really like your idea of meeting with and staying with the local people. When I visited Kenya I met such very friendly people.

That would be a tough decision because there are som any places in the world that I would like to discover, however, I think that I would choose Europe, as it is somewhat familiar yet totally different at the same time. There are enough english speakers and modern conveniences to keep me happy. I would like to visit the other sites as well, and hope to get to some of them, but for now I would choose Europe.

If I could discover a continent for a month, it would definitely be Europe. I would travel all over England first. London would be my first stop. I would see everything this great city has to offer. France would be my next stop. i would love to see romantic Paris. Both of these cities are rich in history and heritage. If there is time , I would be off to italy. I would love to see rome first hand. Until then, we can always dream!

Europe, of course! :)) I'd want to learn French, try their different cuisines, experiment with fashion (since they are more fashion tolerant there), take lots of pictures with an SLR cam, meet lots more people, be amazed by great architecture, stroll through the cobblestone streets, explore castles, churches, museums, landmarks, etc., try staying at a 5 star hotel one day and in a guest house the next, soak in pristine beaches (I hope beaches there are just as beautiful compared to here), try out the original Belgian chocolate, meet with my long-distance friends who have resided there, and much more... :))

I would go to Europe. I'd see London, Paris, and Rome. I've never traveled so that would be wonderful. I'd stay in a house if I could, or a nice hotel.

Asia I guess parks and mountains because I would like to see the temples and do T'ai Chi in the park in China and see Shoalin Masters in the mountains. But I would also like to see Oceans. There are many styles of Martial Arts in Asia, so I could like to see them. Probably a bed and breakfast if they have such things. I love having breakfast made for me. Starts my day off well.

Gosh.....so many places to choose from.....I would not be able to make up my mind. I would love to go round Asia....and Americas as well....and so does Europe....somehow, I never thought about going to Africa...probably because I'm not really jungle type person (I had enough of a jungle while growing up). If pushed, I'd probably say Europe. I would love to stay in small B&B rather than 5 star hotels. I like the cosiness of a B&B, not to mention the price compared with 5 stars.

i think i'll choose europe. As an asian, it's a totally different place to me. In fact, i planned to travel to France, Italy and Switzerland last month since it's my last summer holiday, but what a pity, my visa was refused. however, i also hope that one day i could have a trip to europe. As to the accommodation, i prefer comfortable hotel.

If I have a month to travel, I will choose to explore Europe. Asia, Africa and the Americas are very big for me to discover it for a month. The Australasia region has too many island nations to go to that a month is not enough. I may do a road trip of Central Europe at least. I will start in UK and Ireland. I will visit Dublin and London. Then, I will fly to Hamburg then Frankfurt in Germany. Next stop would be in Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Brussels in Belgium. Then, I will go to Paris and Lyons in France before proceeding to Geneva and Zurich in Switzerland. Then I will go to Venice, Milan and Rome in Italy. Then take a cruise or fly to Athens in Greece. I will island hop to Mykonos and Santorini. If there is still time, I will visit Istanbul...

If I have one month vacation, I would like to visit Europe because it is quite different from here. I like to see the different constructions, culture, food and so on. I like to stay in the cheap backpackers hostel or even my friends' home. As I don't want to spend much for staying in the expensive hotels. I prefer to use this money to explore much more. I love China

I would definitely choose Europe. I would love to see all the major European cities. the mountains, beaches, etc. there are optional. I would stay in a 3 star hotel. Something that is not that expensive yet is still clean, has a luxurious feel to it, and has privacy for me. I don't think I would like to stay in hostels during my vacations. I'd rather save money for a year and splurge it on nice hotels than spend it on hostels with shared bathrooms and bedrooms.

I went to Europe a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. My favorite place to explore was Amsterdam. For another trip, I'd definitely like to spend a month in Asia.
