Not meaning to make people in cold, gloomy places jealous or anything, but today was a surprisingly glorious day. It was high 30's, low 40's when I dropped the children off at school this morning, and it probably wasn't much over 50 when I went walking at lunch. But I got around the corner, and there were the Sierra Nevada mountains in all their snow capped fantabulousness, and all was right with the world. I took a walk along the American river. Amazing how much a place can change in a few weeks. No more trees with yellow, red and orange leaves. The rain pretty much knocked them all off. No more vultures and seagulls gorging on dead salmon. The high water level pretty much washed any remaining dead fish down river. But the bare branches against the mostly blue sky was very pretty. I saw a bunch of what I think were California bluebirds. The river was rushing along, and there was a slightly cool breeze. It was truly glorious. What did you all do for lunch? :D

You stink Last night before I went to bed I unplugged the kid's alarm clock because I was certain schools would be closed today.. or at least delayed. We got another 3 or 4 feet of snow overnight last night. Schools were delayed this morning 2 hours.. so the 4 year old did not have preschool. The snow hasn't stopped all day.. and it's supposed to get even worse through the night, getting at least 2 inches per hour if not more. School will probably be delayed again tomorrow even though it really should be closed in this kind of weather. I haven't left the house all day because I can see the main road from my window and the plows cannot keep up with the snow fall. I'm cold, I'm tired, and I'm getting cabin fever. Can I come live with you? LOL

I bet you can ski, skate and snowshoe better than I can. Does that help? No? Well then, let me get you know who out of there, and we'll have an extra bed. :D

Actually I've never gone skiing or snowshoeing.. but I do want to try both.. Hopefully I will get to try the snowshoeing very soon.. the skiing I'll probably put off until the kids are older. We do ice skate a couple times a year though. There's an outdoor skating rink downtown, right under the big Christmas tree. Every year I say I want to go at night before Christmas.. but we never end up going until after Christmas. When the twins were younger I used to bring the oldest every weekend and it would be just me and him time. Last year I brought the twins too.. they picked up on it pretty fast. Just before Halloween I brought all the kids to an indoor skating rink, so the younger 2 tried on skates for the first time, though they were only on the ice for like 30 seconds, LOL. As they get older things like this become more expensive. None of us own skates, so we're talking $3 each for skate rentals and $3 each to get on the ice. This is one of the major downsides to having such a large family.. outings that seem inexpensive are actually unaffordable.

I don't know how high the temps got today, but it was sunny and not too cold. There was still some snow on the roads from our last snowstorm that hit us Sunday. My oldest son and I went out shopping for a Wii for my youngest son and all went well. We ended up at the mall and had chick-fil-a for lunch, a real treat since most of the time I end up at the mall on Sundays when they are closed. Then came home and I have been working on the computer ever since..:)

Sounds awesome, Dawn! I love how you are all around nature and can describe it to us that we wanna be there with ya! We were actually HOT just a couple days ago - and now we're back to chilly rain . . . but I'm not complaining - it's just funny how it can change on a dime here. Let's see . . . my lunch . . . I was at home and felt bad that I had to get baby boy out of his nap to pick up my daughter from school as we're out early all week (parent-teacher conference). I loved walking through the wetness - the stroller wheels got cleaned - ha ha!!

I heard it was raining there. Was on a call with some folks from Woodland Hills, and I was telling them all about the nice weather. I think they are sending the rain back up here though.

Yah, it WAS raining . . . and today it cleared up (though it seems we had some light showers while we were snoozing). So the sun is out - it's a beautiful day actually - getting warm but there's a nice bit of chill in the air. Ah - CA weather!

Well that's true enough. Windsor Castle is definitely on my list. It's huge! http://www.windsor.gov.uk/site/things-to-do/windsor-castle-p43983 Only £16 each to get in which, believe me, is well cheap for a castle!

Lunch? Well, I missed it because I've been on the computer all day sending a reply to the Better Business Bureau about a complaint I filed in November. I did look outside a couple of times and it looked beautiful. The sun was out, the sky was blue and the mountains behind my house didn't have snow (and I like that, since I don't like the cold/snow). But in the last half hour, there seems to be a cloud overhead that's made it "dark". So dark in fact, I may have to go take a nap until the cloud blows over. Also, I didn't really want to go outside because I have pulling weeds/grass along my 200-foot driveway on my to-do list and I really didn't want to-do it today. Maybe tomorrow. I'm glad you enjoyed your walk/lunch. Sounds relaxing...

Oh yeah this is like heat wave as you know where I am from IL it is like 30 below zero Fahrenheit. So for me this wonderful, although this darn cold won't let me enjoy it. The most snow they get here is like 1/8 inch from what I am told. So Monday I head back home so I will have plenty to complain.

I baked peanut butter doggie treats... little tiny, heart-shaped ones that my girls can chew comfortably. I always make their treats because even the ones sold in stores, ones made for small dogs, aren't small enough and I've had to break them up for my tiny, hairy sweeties. (Maltese have hair, not fur.) Tomorrow, I'll probably bake gingerbread cookies. It's been friggin' FREEZING around here lately. Today, it only got up to 28 deg, low last night was 15 deg. It's supposed to snow tomorrow, not a lot but enough to be pretty for awhile so having the house smell like gingerbread should be awesome.

Steampunk Bustle Skirt - My new steampunk bustle skirt from Infectious Threads, Nevada. Very well made.
Well, despite the twenty below zero windchill here things are great. This morning I made eggs, pork chops, and naan for the family for breakfast. We enjoyed a wonderful hour together before the hubby had to get to bed as he works the over night shift. I just realized that I have not had lunch, and as it is almost dinner I suppose I shall just wait. I've spent the day working on writing, as well as cleaning. I finally got the kids room mostly done and will be having the hubby clear up the closet that needs to be organized in there. I'm off in a few to continue working on my Christmas gown. Then it will be time (once I've got it put together save the zipper) to get the daughter's pinned, cut, and sewn. I figure I'll save the zipper on both for last in case I need to do fitting work on mine. I don't want to risk not getting hers done. I also still need to make my son his cloak. He's getting a more "boy" cloak this year. He told me that his hooded cloak from last year is too "girlish". The boy is only four years old and already picking up our gender roles that get assigned in society. Not sure why he thinks a hood makes it "girlish" but eh, I'm a wiz on the sewing machine so I'm going to do a roman style cloak with fur trim for him. I also finished the hubby's new Ren Fest/Viking pants yesterday. And today I've been enjoying my new bustle skirt. It arrived in yesterday's UPS delivery and today I've been wearing it. It's simply gorgeous! Namaste-Anora

Once upon a time there was an analyst named Dawn who created her own test documents. Then the big, bad corporation outsourced its IT department, and now Dawn drudges on reviewing the vendor's documents, telling them how the system works, and sitting on a LOT of calls. Oh well, it's a job. :D

It's already the weekend when I got to this discussion, but I would still like to put in what we did for lunch. The kids wanted to do Japanese after service so we went to a cheap, local Japanese restaurant that served good food. I was craving for something fried, so I just had tempura and rice. The vegetable tempura was great!

Although I know it's not, hight 30's to low 40's sounds really warm to me! I remember +42 in Bangkok, that was really too much for me :-) As for Sierra Nevada with snow on, I'd love to see them one day. For the time being I can watch the mountains on the other side of the fjord though, not that high but also nice and snow-capped. When you can see them, as we're now down to 4.5 hours of daylight. Looking very much forward to solstice!

I snuggled with my husband, and praised God for the roof over our heads, the food in our stomachs and the clothes on our backs. I thanked Him for allowing my husband to make progress in his struggle against the stroke that incapacitated him 18 months ago. The last time with his therapists, he walked seven 2-inch steps and with the speech therapist, he finally knew that you bat a ball. I thanked God for our daughter, who was born with Down's syndrome, but even more important, she was born with a heart the size of Texas and an ability to accept people as just people - no bias taints her life. She was our Christmas present almost thirty-two years ago and today, she exhibits more common horse sense than most people I know. I'm now making all sorts of good dishes for her birthday party in two days. The smile on her face lights up the house. Yes, we had a pretty good day so far, too.

It's nice today too, but there's rain forecast after today. Yep, the kids' moods can definitely affect things. I'm much happier on days when they've been funny, not so much when they've been fighting.
