hail hail my tires are bald

So today after physical therapy I texted Dearra that I was coming to pick her up, and she texted me back that it was hailing. Funny because I was only about 10 minutes away, and from where I was it wasn't raining or really even looking threatening. But about halfway there it started raining a bit. No hail though. After she got in the car, we went down to the elementary school to get the twins. As we got out of the car, it started to hail lightly. As we walked to the day care room, it hailed harder. By the time I had them checked out and back to the car, the hail had literally covered the street. Wonderful driving home on my bald tires, it was, as I had to go very, very slowly, and still was doing a fair amount of slipping and sliding. By they time we got past the other elementary school it was back to raining again, but we had a nice buildup of hail on the car when we got home. Think I had better look into replacing those tires...

It's so easy to take our cars for granted, we forget that they are deadly weapons and it's important to keep them in good repair for the saftey of those inside the car and other outside the car. Be smart get these fixed.

When I had my first car it had bald tires. If I parked too close to the sidewalk and the cement there I could get a flat. It was pathetic. I didn't want to pay out for a new set of tires because I was getting another car.

This is one of the many reasons why I hate winter. It is always about this time when I discover that my tires are also bald. I've been in a few fish-tailing myself, so it isn't a problem for me. The big thing is when I am with my kids. They seem to enjoy it, but I just don't want that kind of danger when I am with them.

Catching up? lol It's pretty rare that I have to deal with any icy conditions here, but I did know that it was time to replace the tires.

Yes I am. I guess this is something that you would have to learn to deal by yourself, from this point on. Right?

We haven't had any moisture since October, I think. At this point, I think I'd take even hail or snow. But isn't hail unusual, even for California, at this time of the year?

Not all that unusual. We don't get it often, but it's not rare to see it once or twice a year....

Well, we're still hoping for rain...or even snow...something. Our hail storms are usually July-October.

Yeah, I heard that it hailed in the area. Rancho Cordova was hit with some good sized hail (an inch in diameter, I think). A funnel cloud was spotted in the area as well. So, did you get hit with any snow? You better get those tires and soon, if you can. As it is it's getting time to get some for my truck. Just have to get a job first. Either that or win the lottery. LOL Drive safe and happy mylotting!

Apparently a tornado did touch down. Here's the link if you happened to miss the story: http://www.news10.net/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=124950&provider=top

I think that is a very good idea...you wouldn't last five minutes on our winter roads with bald tires! Even with good ones some days it dangerous!

Funnily enough I need new tyres too. I have a slow puncture in one and I just don't like the others. They were a "cheap" (no such thing in the UK) and I am feeling the effect of my parsimony. Our tyres are all that keep us on the road - change them

i would say that you certainly should for safety sake. i know when i was stopped in ohio one time the cop put on not only running red light(which changed as soon as was right under it) but also bare tires? i never knew that some places have a law. what next are they going to do to us with laws...uuuggghh.

Yeah they can cite you for that. Also if it's snowy and chains are required, they can turn you around if your tires are bald.

It does sound like it might be time to replace the bald tires. We replaced the tires on my car a couple of years ago and as of right now we still have a lot of tread on the tires. However, there are a lot of times when we are driving that it scares me a little bit because of the fact that it can get a little bit hairy to know about. I'm sure that you were happy that Dearra did let you know that it was hailing in advance.

you really should change those bald tires braking is going to be very difficult since your car will most probably slide on any surface due to loss of road grip if you're on a budget, buy 2 for the rear and then when you have more buy another 2 and then send those bald tires to a legit recycling place

For Thursday they had predicted freezing rain, fog, snow, ice, etc. Son has to be at work by 5:00 a.m. He said what we actually had was hail, also known as industrial strength freezing rain. Yes, do get your tires done, it helps. Be safe.

Glad you made it home safely! I've always been one to procrastinate on replacing things that SHOULD be replaced. My hubby is actually going through this right now . . . one of his tires has a "bubble" that is about to burst (it's been growing in the past 3 days), so he took my car this morning to work. Hopefully he will get new tires put in later this afternoon . . . he HAS to for this coming work week. He can't just leave work during the day as they are swamped (plus he is still relatively the new guy) - and he can't leave early enough to get new tires. ANYWAY - so how did it feel to skate with your car? Hee hee.

R is the procrastinator, likes pushing things to the limit. That's when I pull out the "do you want your children driving around in a car with bald tires" bit. Of course next time I will be on my own and nobody to blame but myself.
