Customer Service Stories..

For those who work, or have worked in customer service, you probably have some crazy stories to share. Either funny stories, pleasant stories, or stories of completely rude and obnoxious people! For me it's the obnoxious ones that stick out the most. I get quite a few of them in any given week. Had one yesterday that had me fuming for hours!! I opened yesterday morning, and opening is not an easy job! You get in at 6am and spend the next 4 hours running your butt off to get the day's bread made, make all the prep for the day (and we slice all our veggies fresh each day), make soup, coffee, cookies, meatballs all while handling customers as they come in. Once you're finally done with all that.. the lunch rush starts, so you literally get no breaks and no down time all day! So this guy calls me up early in the morning when I've got a million other things going on. He's asking me about our steak sandwiches, what time to we start serving them and what do we put on them. he asks if we put fried onions on it. I say no, we have fresh, raw onions you can put on it if you want. He says he wants 4 steak sandwiches "And don't put any onions on it, I don't want onions!". Okay, fine. So I had a couple other things I really needed to finish up before I started making his subs, and I just started to make them when he calls back. He says he wants another sandwich with "scrambled egg". What do you think this is, Denny's? I don't sit here making eggs to order, geez! So I tell him we only have like pre-cooked egg patties. He says that's fine. So, I ask the usual questions, what kind of bread, what kind of cheese, is it toasted? Then I ask if he wants white or yellow egg. We have both. He says "White egg?" okay, you want white eggs.. "NOOO!! What is white egg?" um, it's egg without the yolk. He says "What the he..! I'm gonna throw up, that's disgusting!" Really? Did I need to know that information? Yellow please would suffice, or no thanks, or something. You didn't need to tell me you're going to throw up, because now I might throw up.. how gross!! So he goes on this long rant about how disgusting and how he wants to throw up and blah blah blah, then says "Don't you dare put white egg on my sandwich". Well you know, that's why I ask which one you want! Some people like white, because they're healthy or maybe they don't like the yolk. Some people want the yellow. Everyone has different preferences. Do I need to know why you do or don't like one or the other? No!! All I need to know is which one you want.. it shouldn't start some long rant about how it's going to make you throw up. For crying out loud! I really hope my customers at the bank aren't nearly as nuts as some of the customers I deal with at Subway! Do you have any customer service stories to share?

Oh lots of stories but my brain is scrambled at the moment because of some news that I cannot quite digest.I am so sorry Kat - it is nothing bad but I am hyperventilating with shock. Later and I am sorry that you had to deal with someone so obnoxious as him. He sounds like a Subhuman eating at Subway. Blessings dear friend

I would work for the same money despite experience. Anything to get away. Today, I started to clean out files that are no longer needed even though I will be giving a 2 month notice if I got the job. I so want this to happen. Imagine waking up and wanting to go to work again? There will be the same old probems and difficult people but I can cope with that. Just cannot cope with my boss who literaly sends my bp soaring and I am scared of him He is coming down for this weekend and I am dreading his criticisms. Itwould feel so good to give him notice let's hope that my age is not held against me.

I have had customers all over the spectrum. I have had the ones that are super friendly and nice whenever you see them and some that are just plain rude. We have a lot of regular customers and even some of the regulars are the ones you just wanna shove back out the door. There are these 2 ladies that come in at least once a week and every time they complain that their order is not made correctly. I could see once in awhile, but EVERY time? They usually get the items they are complaining about remade and then come in the next day and try to get their ENTIRE $20 order replaced. My store has a policy where we don't get to question the customer. If they say something is wrong with their food we replace it for them. It does not matter what it is that they are claiming. It gets old after awhile because we know they are lying just to get some free food.

There is a Subway right across the street from my job. Someone runs over to get food at least once a week. I have never asked for extra anything on the side. They usually pile the veggies on my sandwiches to begin with.

A lot of people will ask for something on the side, and it's usually understandable. Like put the dressing on the side if they're not going to eat it right away. Or sometimes they want a side of pickles.. which I understand. But to put extra everything on the side? I'm guessing it's to stock their fridge at home! Not cool!

I've known some people like that.. what a pain! We don't get a lot of customers like that, thankfully. I do get some that want all their veggies on the side, and they're probably just doing it to have extra veggies at home to make other sandwiches with or something. They'll literally ask for extra of everything on the side. You can't tell me that's all for 1 sandwich!

Working in a Hotel Restaurant,I get loads of people "Over a certain Age" who obviously NEED reading Glasses and it happens all the time that they never have them with them when I give them a menu..(Why do they bring handbags the size of rucksacks with them if they can't keep their glasses in there?!) It's the same with charging items to rooms..You order drinks or meals,it gets charged to your room, and we need a signature, otherwise somebody could say "I never had/ordered that" which leads to hassle with management and more memos on procedures after somebody complains (When they walked out without signing their bill) and gets a refund...

That could be annoying. I get tons of people who never know what they want and take forever to figure it out. That would be fine if I were a waitress, I could just walk away and give them more time to think about it. But where I work I can't walk away, I have to stand there and wait for them to make up their mind, regardless of how much I have to do.

Unfortunately,I'd probably BE one of those people..I don't do fast food very often, and it would usually be when I'm visiting in the US and looking at the choices available in the place for what might be the first time,if I've never been in that eatery before,or was unfamiliar with the current specials...It's good that there's a BIG display of the items that are available, but you don't always get a good look at it until you're next in line! I could use a menu in my hand or a flyer or something to help make up my mind before getting to the counter..

The one I hated dealing with when I was working in retail was a guy who was dripping in sweat. I only worked there one summer, and he came in wearing a winter coat, and he was obviously feeling warm. It looked liked he had that coat for a few days becaused he reaked! His face was dripping with sweat, and his hands were also wet. And he kept asking me to hand over some tent samples. I hated putting the tent backs back in the bag. So what kind of egg do you like?
