Well living with my oldest son and youngest daughter, my days are no longer dull and uneventful. Last night,it was just like they were little kids again. and its often like that. My son was washing his hands with his cell phone on the sink and knocked it in the water. uuuhhh dummy! He said now what can I do? Its not working. My daughter told him put it in a zip lock bag with some rice for a few hours. That sometimes dries it out. A few minutes later he says, I fried my phone he says J, my daughter told him to put it in rice in the microwave. I said you heard her wrong. she said clean out your ears!! I said put it in rice in a zip lock bag, not the microwave! Geesh, I said son, you never, NEVER put metal in a microwave. hes been around those for most his life. surprisingly the microwave still works. guess he only did it for a couple seconds. Have you had anyone do something that silly before because of not hearing what someone said? Do you know tricks for drying out a phone?

Future reference, take the battery out, then cover it with rice. Doesn't have to be in a baggie, any container would work. The rice wicks the moisture out, but I'd leave it overnight, or longer. Does he have insurance on the phone? If not, he better get it for the next one.

hi dear bunnybon I would be lost as well if the cell phone ends in the full sink. Did the idea with rice in a ziploc bag work? Hope the phone is all right now as its expensive to get a new one for sure.

I dont know any thing about drying out phones. I just keep my phone away from water. When my daughetrs family stayed with my was never dull either. My son-in-law would always end up with the tv remote in his pocket of his lounge pants. One day i found it in the frig. Lol!!! Dont ask why because i dont know. Anytime we were watching tv together and he would leave the room i would be looking for the remote i knew exactly where to look. His pocket. I got so i would hide the remotes.

I have heard the rice thing works. Selective hearing that people have. Gheez! I think my grandson did that to our last microwave. It was weird. He went downstairs one morning before his mom did. I heard the weird microwave zap noise and after that it didn't work. Kids, gotta love 'em! I don't know any other tricks.

Wow that's really funny but at the same time, I pity your son because of his fried phone. I guess I have tried that before doing something silly because I wasn't able to hear the words properly. I don't know how to dry out a phone. There was once when my phone really got wet, I just wiped it off immediately and I was lucky that it still worked.

Just tell him that that's not what your daughter said. Don't worry about that. Later on, he will just forget about that.

hahahaha fried the phone..? OMG. Your son is crazy. I also had my cellphone swimming in the water several times. And I always panic. if I can open the cellphone and all inside it, I will open all the spareparts and dry all with hairdryer. But if I cannot open all the spareparts, I will dry it under the shiny sun.

no wonder if he has very good intelligent. He will find lots of way to make his cellphone back active again. I think he only think about "make the callphone dry" and never think about the electric and heat cause any electronic blow up. hahaha...... That make me remember about my own "fool" experience" One day, I heated water in an electric water heater bucket, but then I completely forgot about the water. Until I heard an explosive sound. At first, I became frightened. FYI, after the big riot in 1998 in my country, I am having a traumatic whenever I hear any noisy sound. I came out of my bedroom and found out the bucket was completely dry. Well, back to your son...DO not worry about him. He will be fine, even sometimes, you will get shocked for what he did... LoL...

Only things I have heard is rice, or dry with a hair dryer and let it sit.

Rice is a good suggestion, or a warm hair dryer. My hubby says he tried to melt a candle out of its glass container in his mom's microwave and enjoyed the fireworks. He had to replace her microwave. The candle had a little metal tab in the bottom.

I did say things and they misunderstood. That happens quite a number of times, and I got feeing that I have to write things out simply, but none was as weird as what you described. As for the cell phone, I would take it to the manufacture or your cell phone provider because it might be ruined. I do not know if he will get it replaced for free, since it was owner error.

What I should do is to tell him to contact his work, and they will tell him where to go. They probably have an arrangement with the cell phone provider to get repairs done at a lower cost. ASk him if he got a paper or a legal document that tells him of the company's or his responsibilities as to the care of the cell phone. That should tell him if he has to pay the whole cost or whether the company will pick up some of it.

Haha...Thats funny. I'm sure I know someone thats done something silly like that without hearing what they said, I just can't think of anything at the moment. The rice thing is the only thing I've heard of, my brother in law dropped his phone in the toilet, he stuck it in a bag of rice and it dried it out, and it still worked, but if you microwave it, it won't...lol.

The only thing I can think of is to put the phone in front of a fan or use a blow dryer on the phone. The rice idea sounds like it would help but I'd leave the bag open so mold or mildew wouldn't get started in that moist environment. Silica gel would work, too. I've always kept those tiny packets of silica that come with new clothes, shoes, purses, etc. Before using them, throw them in the oven for 15 minutes or so to make sure they are as dry as possible, then put them in a baggie with whatever you want to dry. They work GREAT! (I used to dry flowers with silica gel.) I'm glad to hear that he got the phone out of the microwave before it killed the microwave! Wow, was he ever lucky! Maybe the phone being surrounded by the rice was what kept it from frying the microwave. Men!

I've been the one that did something silly because I heard wrong. I had a really bad summer chest cold during the summer when I was 20 years old and my mother suggested that I take a couple tablespoons full of whiskey to try to break it up a little bit. I thought she told me to take a couple of shots and I did just that. Well, the morning came and I felt horrible and didn't want to go to work because I had a little bit of a hangover. She said to me, how much did you drink, after looking at the bottle and I said about 3 shots and she said, I said a couple tablespoons full, not a couple shots. As far as drying out the phone, sorry, I can't help you with that one.

Well, I feel bad about his cell phone. But my girl did something stupid like that, only not a cell phone. She was heating up a cup of coffee but it was in a Styrofoam cup, I told her, you cannot do that, she said, do what? We both laughed. When she took the cup out of the microwave, is was a little mini cup. Luckily there was only a little coffee in the cup, she threw it away.

Oh boy. Really? You have to watch that kid closely. LOL. I know, styrofoam is a simple mistake, but all those molecules go into whatever is being heated up. Even some plastics that happens to. I like using regular dishes in there.

yes it happened to us also when my little daughter poured a glass of water on my hubby's mobile accidently.the screen was gone and then we tried many things to get the water out of the system,my husband even tried using iron to dry the water.luckily the iron didn't drop on the cell phone.sun drying is the best option from my experience.

yes that would work. according to most people here though a hair dryer works best.

It happened to me once where I accidentally dropped my phone inside a drain full of water. I quickly retrieved it, opened it up and dry it with a hair dryer. The next thing I know it functioned perfectly well.

good idea. my daughter said it might get to hot though. knowing my son he'd probably let it. instead of putting it on the cool setting

I actually saw the solution to this on tv last week. Take the phone out of the water. Open it up and remove the battery and sim card. Dry the inside of the phone, the battery and the sim card with a soft microfiber cloth. Put all inside a cannister of about 2 cups of rice, burying each well. Leave it in the rice overnight. If it's going to work at all, it will work again after you put it back together. The hair dryer wasn't mentioned.

Water damage usually completely ruins a phone. But you can try a hair dryer on cool mode. Never ever shake it as the water then runs to the very important areas and that is what will ruin it. So taking out the batter and letting it rest face down can also help. But if he put it in the microwave it may no longer work. My boyfriends mother one year was visiting and dropped her phone in her plate, prior to putting the plate of food in the microwave and microwaved it too. lol

Hahaha that's really funny, I can't believe that your son actually dried the phone into the microwave. That kind of thing never happened to anyone I know but something else happened to my fiance' long time ago. I bought him a new nice mobile phone as his birthday party. But before I gave it to him, I installed some games that he loves to play. On his birthday party, he took it to the toilet because he can't stop playing one of the game. And guess what happened, he accidentally dropped it inside the toilet. I was so mad and he was very sad! I couldn't afford another one after that so he had to wait till his next birthday after

men are such klutzes. my daughters fiance throwed his clothes in the washer a while back and started it up without checking his pockets and washed his ipod it was an old one but still he had no other.
