Foamy grains...

So the grocery store discontinued my favorite hair color. Bad grocery store. So I've been experimenting around, and I decided to try a foam color. Easier! So say the advertisements. I have my own little routine when it comes to hair color. I sit in the bathtub with a stand mirror and apply the color to my hair, put a shower cap over it, and lie there and read until the timer goes off. "But what does this have to do with cats", you ask? Patience, my children, I shall tell you. Tonight I had to read the instructions, because each type of hair color is different, and I have never used this one before. Having read the directions, I proceeded to do things my own, rotten way. I dumped bottle A into bottle B, and went to put the gloves on. Jason, the cat, looked like he was wanting to jump up on the tub, so, being pro-active, I moved the open bottle to the other side of the tub to prevent an accident. I put the gloves on and went to put the top back so I could shake it up, and that's when Jason appeared on the other side of the tub, and took a flying leap, yup, right where I had moved the open bottle of hair color. I reached, but cat is faster than Dawn, and looked down to see the open bottle of hair color fall into the (thank goodness) recently cleaned litter box. Yep, there went my nice, newly opened bottle of hair color, right into the kitty litter. "Stupid cat"! I pulled the bottle out of the litter (only a small amount had spilled out), and, being a practical sort, scraped the litter off the bottle into the trash basket that I had conveniently placed next to the tub, so that I could toss out the hair color debris when I finished. Then I took my more or less kitty litter free bottle of foam hair color, shook it up to mix it, replaced the cap with the pump applicator, and colored my hair. I'm going to write Clairol and let them know how my foamy grains litter worked out. Who knows, maybe they will want to adopt a slightly water crazy, tabby striped manx cat named Jason. Or not...

Really funny Dawn. You described it so well that I.could easily visualize it. I am glad that it. Worked.though this reminded me of something that happened when I was a child. My motherwent white from a young age a.d coloured her hair black. Originally a blab k haired blue eyed.Irish lady. So she had forgotten to bugaboo colourand was going out to a dinner dance. In desperation she used a tooth brush and applied black shoe polish to her hair! We were horrified but kept the secret from Daddy. Thenext morningshe regaled us with tales of leavingthe polishonevery person with whom she danced. Either on their clothes or face when she danced cheek to cheek! This included my father and he was not amused

I feel okay but just get tired very easily. This is all taking too long so we will have to go to plan Bwhen we can figure out what plan B is. Lol. I sometimes feel that my heart will just explode. I am remarkably calm for one who is so critically ill.I know that my faith keeps me strong. So appreciate that you asked. Many thanks

Colored my hair night before last (sunday night), no kitties so no kitty litter hair color. I think I'd probably have thrown it out, unless I knew for a fact no cats had done their business in it. I used the foam kinda stuff too.

Sounds like Murphy's law, and your cat went straight for it..lol I don't have a cat, but my daughter did when she lived here and if it was "recently" cleaned, then I'd have no problem using the hair color. Now it the box was not cleaned, I don't know what I would have done..Perhaps next time, shut the door to the bathroom, the cat can wait to do his business until you are finished..lol

LOL.. You should get a litter box with a cover, we got one because our dog at the time kept going into the litter box for a "special" treat and anything that fell over the top, just bounced off the lid and onto the floor.

If it hadn't been recently cleaned, I guess I would have just taken a bath (a very grumpy bath)...

Well, hello. I wondered what had happened to you. I thought maybe one of the men you had met had stealed you away somewhere. Now I know that you have just been chasing after calamity Jason. What a cat! They are curious and funny sometimes. Our youngest, Colbert, is a handsome grey tabby. He jumps up several feet in the air to play with his kitty toy and is so funny. Keeps us in stitches.

oh that is so funny and precious. funny thing is, i colored my hair last night also. and at one point i barely missed dropping the developer. because it was slippery with gloves on. and thought. what a waste. probably couldnt get another bottle without buying the whole thing over. i think Jason was likely reaching for the bottle thinking it might be something good. maybe hes tired of his hair color?

Glad to see that your funny bone is intact. I have had a few encounters with hair color myself most memorable being the one when I had to go around with streaks near my ear, professing that they were my new sideburns. I even got a couple of days off once, well, because my Boss was worried I had skin cancer, the mole on my nose was not there the day before. Should you by any chance spill the coloring in your bath tub, I have a suggestion to make, just add water, get into it and splash around. You can always boast of your sun tan. I assume, of course, that the color of the coloring is not blue or yellow, in which case you will be hospitalized for cyanosis or jaundice respectively.

In the tub, that's happened before, in small amounts. No blue or yellow though.

I have a friend from a different site (oh, you know the one) who's Bengal cat is absolutely crazy about water. NOTHING sits on the side of her tub because he'd see that it was IN the tub! I was afraid that the hair color was going to go into the tub and totally be wasted!

It would have had to fall over the rim of the tub, much easier to go the other way...

You're lucky you only had to deal with the litter box! I was doing my hair one day and all four decided to check to see what the head idiot was doing. Of course I do my hair in the bathroom because it has a great mirror. What I didn't know was one of the cats was sitting behind me. Well, I never do a good job of coloring my hair unless I miss with a shot of hair color. The shot missed my hair but hit the cat right on the tail! Fortunately I was close to the end of dumping the color on my hair so I hurried up quick, grabbed the cat and proceeded to soak his tail in the sink. There I was, hair color dribbling down my face, no timer set, with a wildly struggling 20 pound Willy cat. It couldn't have happened to one of the lighter weighing cats...it had to be the husky guy that is a real fighter and one who is hard to hang onto because of his weight. I got most of the color out of his tail, but he did have a brown spot on the base of his tail. I told everyone that it was a wet fart... They wrinkled their noses and they did believe me for some strange reason. After about 4 weeks it faded enough so you couldn't see it unless you knew where the color had landed.

I have never known why animals always seem to know when you going to do your hair, whether it is a permanent or color. I swear some of them are jealous or something because they seem to attack either you or the object that is demanding your attention. I had a black and white cat, named Adolf (maybe have been related to the dictator) that whenever I did anything with my hair, including braids, he would act like a lunatic. I learned to close the door and lock him out when I wanted to do something with my hair. However, he made trouble even then with such actions as clawing the door because he couldn't get to me. I often wondered if he wasn't some rejected lover of mine from a prior life the way he acted and with his possessiveness. I learned to also keep an extra pair of gloves for hair color around because he would put his claws through them. That was the strangest cat I've ever had, and I've had some unusual ones. None of them ever had the same personality. But they sure were entertaining when they weren't being annoying. Thanks for the discussion and the chuckles.

Hey dawny! Can't wait to hear how your hair turned out! I have had many bathroom incidents myself, some with cats and some without. I put my soap into a container so me and bf don't get ours mixed up since we sometimes use the same type and I prefer not to share, as does he. I kept dropping it yesterday, "slippery when wet" and the third drop went into the toilet! Luckily (or not) there was only unflushed pee, but ewwwww anyway! Cleaned soap and container, but decided to throw soap out! Hair dye inidents: Wasn't paying attention when gf came over to dye it for me (can't see to do it on myself with or without glasses). Mixed the wrong tube twice from two different boxes until I realized I was putting the conditioner into the dye bottles! I ruined 2 boxes of Clairol Grey Coverage #4 Dark Brown and was I pissed at myself! At least you had the cat to blame! So how did the color come out? Did the grains add anything extra to the finished process?

Hee hee. Maybe Jason just wanted to change his hair color too - ha ha! I think you should go flying into his things when he's using it and see how he likes it - ha ha! So how did your hair turn out? We don't have any cats here, but my 2 year old is getting into friggin' EVERYTHING now . . . so I can relate!

Life is so much fun when the cats are helping you out. . . I hate it when they discontinue my hair color. That is why I allowed myself to go gray for a few years. Hubby could not take it any longer last summer. I bought henna, which is a trip within itself. I leave it on for five hours, after I mix the herb with various things to turn it into my custom dye. I love how it looks, do not love the five hours. Hubby thought I was looking older than him. Now I get mistaken for twenty years younger than my actual age. I do not see that henna would be practical for someone with too busy a life, but I have heard you can just put it into your shampoo and color every time you wash. In your case, I am wondering if the grains made it stay in better, kind of like henna mud.

Dear Clairol, have you ever considered mixing a little clay clumping litter into your foam hair color? I had a great result with it. Love, Dawn

Well maybe Jason thought it was time he had a new color too LOL! Too funny. I'm sure it wasn't at the time it was probably annoying as he double hockey sticks. My cat isn't water crazed but as soon as he hears the electric can opener he's from the far end of the house into the kitchen before you can blink an eye. In the process of running ever so crazily through the house he managed to dump over the bag of dog food which ripped and ended up all over the floor and in the water dish. Yup gotta love our cats. :)

Oh Dawn, don't you understand that Jason was just tired of being a tabby striped cat and wanted to see how well your color would look on him? So, I do have to ask because of the fact that I am a curious person, did the color turn out the way that you wanted it to? I ask because I'm considering coloring my hair for the first time so that I can cover up some of the gray that I've developed in my hair over the last year, but I don't know where to start when it comes to the coloring.

I was crossing my fingers for your cat not to get coloured! I'm sure Jason loves his own skin colour, or maybe just a little highlight would improve his looks? Your topic was "Foamy grains", I was imagining soapy foams on your head, duh!

grains of kitty litter, though "foamy clumps" would have been more appropriate, I think...
