Hi all! Many of the lotters have been using laptops. As the name suggests 'laptop' are meant to be kept on 'laps' for easy operation. I also use my laptop on my lap. However, sometimes I feel tired keeping it constantly on my lap. I feel comfortable keeping it on computer table or any table and could operate it for longer hours. I was wondering what my friends/lotters do with their laptop, where do they put their laptops and operate and in one position, how long they could work. Would like to know your experiences in this regard. Have a nice weekend to all.

Actually it has been determined that keeping your Laptop on your lap is unsafe, that's why companies have started referring to them as notebooks. Keeping it on your lap has been proven to cook genitalia, and cause serious complications. I try to find anything that I can use as a table its easier that way.

Hi! I was not aware that keeping the laptop on lap could be unsafe. Thanks for sharing the information. It is good that you use other than your lap to operate your laptop.

Hullo Deepak! Excellent topic and everyone can relate to this. I use my desktop and prefer this.If there is a connectivity problem and I am forced to use a laptop then the situation changes.SOmetimes my son will be using it, placing it on a table; I will peep in for a few minutes and just do what I have to do and push off. Otherwise I will keep it on my lap if it is for a short while.I do nOt use it for long durations now.Earlier when I had to I used to keep it on my lap. But my preference is for my own desktop.

HI Kalav! Thanks for appreciating the topic. I agree that using desk top PCs is always more convenient and easy. I also prefer to use desk top but sometimes when am in a hurry, I would use laptop and keeping it on a small table is better than keeping it on my lap. It is always nice to see you here in my discussion.

Hi deepak, how are you doing? I never keep laptop on my lap. Usually I keep it on table and sit on the chair. Sometimes, I just lie on bed with it. When it aches, i keep changing position and posture. Recently, I am getting sprains on my shoulder and neck. So, of later trying to be on chair while working. Doesn't it heat up your lap after a while deepak?

Hi Mimpi! Nice to see you here in my discussion after a long break. Answer to your question - I am (not) doing fine (it is for you to read it with bracket or without bracket). This discussion gave me an insight how users use their laptop. Many like you, use it on the table and do not keep it on the lap. You are right that we just can not sit in one position because after sometime it gets uncomfortable. Yes, you are right that it gets heat up after a while, if we keep it in our lap, so it needed to be kept away from us. I am worried to here that you are getting sprains on your shoulder and it is making you feel uneasy. Thanks for joining the discussion and sharing. Have a happy weekend.

I do not have a laptop as I am comfortable with my desk top. The concept of a laptop is mainly to facilitate a user while on travel but at office or at home it would be most comfortable and advisable too if it is kept on a table.

Hi ak! Actually, laptop is used for convenience and it could be put anywhere. However, if it is kept on a small table it gets more convenient to make best use of it. Putting it on the lap for a longer duration could be troublesome. Thanks for joining us. Have a great weekend.

laptops are portable computers.. it means that the owner could bring his own and access it anytime and anywhere.. laptops was named like that since it could be accessed by just opening it over your lap during the absence of table or any flat surface.. i use to put laptops on my lap if i don't have any place to put my computer on aside from it.. it's more okay to put laptops on flat surface (if available) aside from your lap because you would feel more comfortable.. :))

HI! You mean to say that laptop necessary does not required to be kept on the lap. You are right keeping it on the flat surface makes the operation smoother. Welcome to mylot.

I never keep it on my lap, it's on the table or bar and I type when I pass by. Just have one since it's easy to take with me, less wires and I can put it away when necessary. A desktop always shows

Some time ago my mother bought me laptop pillow. The top of the pillow is hard and the buttom is soft. I place the pillow on my lap when I use it. The pillow is comfortable because of the soft part. I place my laptop on the hard part of the pillow, that way the laptop doesn't overheat and it is stable and easy to use. I had never heard about those pillows when I got the pillow that my mother had bought, but I think it is great invention, because in the past I always kept my laptop directly on my lap. Sometimes I choose to place my laptop on a table instead. We have a table close to the couch and I use that table at the moment. The size of the table is perfect and it is easy to use my laptop while I am sitting in the couch.

hello dpk, There were times that I sit on my bed while using laptop- but I always had on top of a pillow with the cooling pad too. But most of the time I use/put it on top of a table. Sometimes on the floor too :p

Hi Jai! Nice to see you here. I think it is always better to put it on the table for the sake of safety and convenience. When you keep it on the floor, where do you sit yourself? (on the floor?) Thanks for sharing.

Hi dpk!! My husband has a laptop for work, but even though everyone there carries it home and back, he rare has to use it at home. As far as our home laptop goes, I don't even know where it is - hee hee. We use it only in emergency I guess - when this "table" one is not working or something. I used the laptop when I had to be on bed rest when I was pregnant with my son . . . I was in bed and literally had to use it on my lap . . . oh I was not comfortable with it at all. Anyway, these days, using a laptop would not be convenient for me . . . I need my lap for my little son - ha ha. So computer things need to wait til I have some time or when he takes a nap - ha ha. Happy weekend to you too!!!

HI m2S! I can understand that when you were pregnant, using your laptop on your lap was sensible. Otherwise, working on a desk top is always more convenient than working on a laptop. It is commendable on your part that you not only look after your kids but keep coming to mylot. Thanks for sharing and joining us. Have a great Sunday.

I like working on my laptop, with it on my table in the office. But when i am at home, like now, i would usually place a pillow on my lap and put my laptop on top of it. That way, i can work on it, while husband sleeps after he is done watching TV also, with only the lampshade on.

Oh, it is not good when you keep your laptop on your lap. Better you put it on a table. Even using a laptop, i still put it on a table with a fit chair as if i work on the PC also. I really don't want any problem from using laptop affect my health.

i am using a laptop. And i prefer to use it on a table.Because when you are keeping it on your lap,you will have to look down onto the screen. And this can get a little tiresome after a while. And if you are sitting with your lap for hours at a time, then your neck will start getting cramped up or start hurting.

HI vai! It is more convenient to put it on the table rather than on the lap, this is the view of most of the respondents here. It could be tiresome to keep it on the lap. Thanks for sharing.

I have my laptop an my desk all the time. Maybe I should have a desk-top instead! :P I don't like placing my laptop on other surfaces like the bed/laps etc because it gets warm easily, it's kind of old and I always put it on a base cooler. It is also more healthy for my back when I work at the desk, especially if I spend so many hours in front of my laptop. Have a great weekend too!

Lap, desk, table, bed, sofa, on the train, in school during class, etc. I pretty much use it everywhere because you can carry it anywhere. These days I work on it about 10 hours a day. The semester is about to end for me and deadlines are coming closer and closer. In a few weeks I'll be back to about 3 hours a day (and it won't for work anymore).

i prefer keeping it on my lap itself.although its tiring if continued for more than an hour, but atleast one can do his/her private work anywhere.besides one can sit taking rest at a wall or pillow.that comforts you.

Even though it is called a laptop, I never use it on my lap. With my first laptop I used it on a t,v, tray. she had a built in mouse that I could use. with my new laptop I use a external mouse. So I Need a table. This way my lap doesn't get warm or hot. And I get to stay online longer!

Hi dpk262006, I really do not take the word lap on laptop too literally. I believe the name suggest the convenient of its mobility aspect. Yes I put it on my lap if there's no other place to put it on which rarely happens. Most of the time I place it on a table or even chair while I am using it. It'll be really uncomfortable for me to have it on my lap because I work long hours.
