They say, counting sheep can address your sleeping habits in order to get some quality shuteye. And also a glass of warm milk helps ditch the sheep counting. But in your opinion, what do you need to do to sleep better?

Everyone is different and we all have different needs when it comes to sleep. Some people need complete darkness, some need complete quiet, and some people's needs change according to what is going on in their lives at a given time. I think the one thing every needs in common is the ability to relax and get to sleep when you need to.

I imagine. When I'm already in bed and is about to sleep, I imagine a different world with my own made up main character interacting with my other made up characters. I have a thing for playing an RPG game--but I'm the designer of the game. It's my world, my characters, my events and my story plot. With this habit, I get to relax--enough that a little while later I'm already snoring and dreaming another different world kinda like my dream is showing me another unique story that it just created all on its own. Maybe it's the reason why I always get story-telling dreams...because I'm already feeding my mind with another world with stories I made up. I don't count sheep--I count how many enemies my character is gonna beat. I don't drink warm milk--I can't sleep if I do because milk hurts my stomach. I simply play with my imagination and before I knew it, I'm already waking up with another dream to write in my journal.

So you are daydreaming until you feel sleepy. I also do that sometimes. It does help me get to sleep a lot easier.

I used to have to get up at least once every night to go to the bathroom, when I did sometimes I would have trouble getting back to sleep. Now I am taking medication that makes it so I don't have to get up, so I sleep much better. If for some reason I can't fall asleep, I wait half an hour and if I'm still awake I will get up to read for half an hour or so. Then it seems I fall asleep right away.

If you are interested in.. meditation before the sleep is the best way to have a tight sleep without any nightmares and all that distractions my friend.. Only if you are interested in try one night and go to sleep.. Try your best to be calm.. that's the key..

Book at bed time... - Well, not here...I am not about to sleep here (some years ago now); but I like to read before sleeping.
I don't think counting sheep would do it for me, as for warm milk, that would not be good for me. My favourite way of sleeping is to invent a story in my head. They tend to involve danger and excitement, and involve a character who encounters disaster at the hand of other(s), but who recovers against all the odds. Then I imagine what happens to him, for the character is always male. Usually this works for me, although not always, such as during the day, when I am trying to nap. But immersing myself in these stories usually relaxes me enough to send me into the realms of sleep. Also, before sleeping, I like to read for some time; and I don't like going to bed hungry. Eating is good for me and makes me nice and drowsy.

Thanks for sharing your experience. But how about for me whose schedule is so hectic. How can I get quality sleep with short amount of time?

There are several things you can do to get the needed amount of sleep nightly. A handful of cherries have the same ingredient as turkey and will help you get to sleep.Take a warm shower before laying down. Rid your room of tv and radio programing and listen to soft, soothing music if anything.

Do you eat cherries before you sleep? Why do they help you in sleeping? I listen to music when going to sleep.

Sleep is one of the most important things in our life, so it is perfectly understandable why you want to sleep a lot better. The first thing that you have to make sure that you do is get into a routine. If you do this, then your body will be ready for sleep at the same time each day, and this will almost certainly help you. You should stay away from your laptop and mobile phone for at least an hour before you go to sleep, and should do something a little more relaxing such as either take a bath or read a couple of chapters of the book you're reading.

Thank you for the advice. I'll make it a routine to sleep at the same time. But my work requires me to sleep at abnormal hours. How can I cope up with it?

The best way to have a very peaceful sleep is to take away your worries and focus on more positive things. Sleepless nights often are caused by too much thinking. This can be stressful.

one must have a relaxed piece of mind and should not bother about anything or anywhere no matter what and feel the comfort and sleep would automatically follow

The unanimous answer is clearing your mind before you go to sleep. I think this is the most basic thing to do to get quality sleep.

It all depends on why you can't sleep. If you are overworked, too tired, counting sleep or hot milk won't help. Perhaps eating a banana might help (a full stomach will make you feel sleepy anyway since digestion cost a lot of energy so the other organs will work on a very low level). If your head is full of thoughts write them down till you feel empty and promise yourself you will deal with it next morning or later on. Sleeping is also a habbit and if you programmed yourself through the years to sleep less it's hard to sleep more. It takes time (weeks, months, perhaps years) till you are able to sleep more and programmed yourself all over again. The only way is to go to bed always at the same time, try to relax, think of "nothing" and stay in bed. Also no light, tv, computer at least one hour before you go to bed. The (flashing)light keeps your brains awake.

Thanks for the advice. My problem is always been my shifting of schedules in my work. I find it hard to sleep when I only get six hours of sleep. Making it a habit I realized I can't sleep more than that. What should I do?

Hi.. thanks for sharing. To have a good quality of sleep, you should feel relax. Aside thoughts and problems. Reading or listening music could help get relax. Or talk to friends or family. Have a nice sleep.

Try lying down on your back, and spread your arms and legs. And most importantly, exert your weight on the bed. Lose your weight on the bed. And of course, before anything else, clear your mind.

I usually play video games or read to get sleepy. I need to distract my brain with some activity that isn't stressful, otherwise I'll keep worrying about problems.

You have to relax your mind of all the problems that you currently have. Also you have to be in a state wherein you feel in peace. You can try drinking milk before bedtime so you can have great sleep. I don't have much trouble sleeping anymore unlike before. So good for me I am now well and I am very happy about it.

hello vincent.. getting to fall asleep isn't really a problem to me.I just lay on my bed and shut my eyes and couple of minutes I usually would fall asleep. but for people which sleeping is a troublesome for them, they can try: 1.drink milk, many myLotters before me also responded about the same thing. This is because milk is kinda a heavy drink.Same goes to choco or Milo or chocolate drinks. 2.you can also try by reading something that is boring.perhaps a novel book or any kind of book.for me as a student, reading Biology books is quite helpful in getting me sleepy. 3.play some relaxing songs.you can find some of the playlist online. but it is better for you to choose your own relaxing playlist. I hope this helps. Happy myLotting..:)

I like number two and three. The usual thing I do is playing relaxing song so that I could feel sleepy.
