How the Ruling class lives at our expense

It seems that The First Lady has hired her daughters as Senior Advisers on her trip to Africa in 2011. That is how they were listed on the expense report that was submitted for payment. This way their expenses would be covered by the government as this was an official trip. On this trip she gave some speeches, met with Nelson Mandela and then the family had a chance to visit historical places and tourist spots and ended their trip with a private family safari. This sounds more like a family vacation than an official visit. http://www.judicialwatch.org/press-room/press-releases/judicial-watch-obtains-documents-detailing-the-cost-to-taxpayers-for-michelle-obama-s-family-trip-to-africa/

Flower, did they obtain the documents when Laura Bush and her twins do the same thing? I wonder why they were SELECTIVE in their investigation? Do you think they may have an agenda they are pushing?

Is there any evidence that Laura Bush and her daughters did the same thing? Show me the money.

Debater, since you ask about Laura Bush and her daughters trip to Africa, I thought I'd look it up. This is what I found concerning both the First Ladies and their daughters. http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2005/7/11/162100.shtml http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2007-06-26-laura-bush-africa_N.htm http://theobamadiary.com/2011/06/15/africa/ You can decide who made better use of her time.

Its a shame that our country gets further and further in debt and the people that are the cause of it dont see it and keep spending. I think that they need to put an end to all this spending. If you and your family want to go to Africa for a Safari thats fine and dandy but dont expect me to foot your bill. The fact that she took her kids with her as employees says to me that its a scam. Not sure what more we can do about it other than to vote them out of office so the willy nilly spending spree stops.

The President has the answer to solving the problem and that is to increase taxes on the Wealthy. Do you remember him blasting business for spending their money on conventions and meetings. He likes to tell other to cut back but he and his family are willing to spend our money for their vacations. It is like PM Margaret Thatcher said Socialism is great until you run out of other peoples money. Spending others money seems to be President Obama's favorite thing to do.

Bob, who much money does the Queen of England have? Where did all of that money come from? Funny how Margaret Thatcher talked the talk, but her own country is to this day run by a Queen who made her fortune off of the people of the country (basically socialism).

I know it is a family vacation, you know it was a family vacation, hell THEY knew it was a family vacation. But this is in line with claiming your hooker bills for medical procedures. These are the people that are to set the tone, set the example for the rest of the country. doing a bang up job aren't they? $470,000 for spain vacation we cant see what was spent on his daughters spring break vacation to Mexico but make no mistake, we paid for it 50 grand for a weekend in aspen. I live in colorado, I have been to aspen, I did not spend 50 grand $4 million spent on a trip to Hawaii. WTF? we took a weekend away a week ago. I was mad because it cost us about a thousand dollars. for four days. we had fun, we deserved it and we saved up for it. But I was a bit perturbed that we spent so much. But we literally did whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted, I even got a spa day and got presents for family and friends and still only spent that much. shheeesh. How do you spend $4 million???

It's okay, just tax the rich for it. After all they can afford to give the prez a few $400,000 vacations each year can't they? You know, spread the wealth.

I think that Laura's trip was about the same cost. But, why question her vacation when we can question Obama's. Isn't this called HYPOCRISY?

I'm sure none of the rich people have ever done the same thing and wrote it off as a business trip...

Probably there have been several other instances of similar trips that were really vacations but which we tax payers had to pay for. Of course there were Obama's thinly disguised campaign bus trips in the Midwest states early this year that required the two $1 million dollar each buses. They were billed as official business but were really campaign trips.

I think the Obama's think they're royalty. They keep taking extravagant vacations that the taxpayers have to pay for and then he says he's worried about the middle class. Yet,no one seems to say much about it. Why doesn't the mainstream media say anything? Why do we have to find this info on a website?

"But Bush!" "But rich people!" "But it always happens!" In other words, people are just basically saying that it's okay. That no one should say anything about it. That since it's happened before and happens elsewhere, we have to turn our heads to it. It's wrong now. It was wrong before. It'll be wrong after. It's wrong for R, for D, for a write-off, or for anything the taxpayers have to cover. Stop spending so much dang money. Seriously. Whoever's doing it and wherever you're doing it -- stop it. A nice safari trip on someone else's dime is something we'd all probably love to do at least once. I can't knock the will here. But it definitely sounds like another in a long line of expensive Obama family vacations. It just does. And the spending has to stop at some point. When? Maybe in 2024, when people will finally stop looking back and blaming past presidents and politicians for creating a system where it can happen without anyone the wiser? Stop the spending, please.

Yeah, it is somewhat a family vacation than a official visit. And the "good thing"(sarcastically speaking) the people is the one who covered their trip. Then money of the people is the one they spent. A very "wise" thing to do. Some people on top cannot be trusted when it comes handling money.

Maybe you can put some rules on table to restrict these official visit.
