I Became So Angry That I Went for the Jugular

I am not a hot tempered person who becomes easily angered. But a conversation yesteerday just took the cake! A family member has a bank loan through my account and this is repaid monthly and yes, sometimes he is a few days late, as, like many, we have to juggle our cash flow. He gave me the money to deposit yesteray into the account and this I did using the drop deposit box. My day had been so frustrating as I have guests at the Villa and a truck knocked down all utility lines so they were wihtout electricity, telephone, internet and cable services. So I was a tad frustrated. Whilst driving to the Villa, I received a phone call from the bank re loan repayment so I said the money had been deposited in the drop in box. I know, she said. But what PARTICULAR reason was there for giving a late payment? So I pulled over and asked her to identify herself and then state again what she had said. She did so. So, she said, give me the reason why your payment was three days late? And, she continued, you were four days late last month. And that was when I lost my presence of mind. I wanted to slap her silly as I was so angry at her rudeness. So, you were the person who called my former place of employment and told the new Manager that I was late with a loan payment? She said that yes, it was her. I told her that I failed to understand why she was calling as she knew the payment had been made. And what is more the bank is charging 26 percent interest charges and if there was a late payment charged then so be it as it would be paid. And yes, I said. There were many particular reasons why the loan was not paid on time but it was none of your business as the payment had been made. Then this person, who must be a thick as a 2 X 4, continued to ask the reason for late payment. So I wished her good day and hung up. I was so angry. So I called the Head Ofice of the Bank in our capital and reported her and then spoke to the Manager of the local branch which I use. In fairness, they were appalled by her rudeness and intrusive behaviour and she will be disciplined. I will write a letter so this will be on her file. Have you had to deal with downright rudeness from anyone lately

Hi sweetie. Why don't you go back on monday and throw her with some of those funky muffins. Most banks have such ride employees, i can strangle them sometimes. At least they got their damn money. Greedy idiots. I had such a problem once, but as i can be so exremely polite, i never had to deal with such rudeness again.

That really doesn't make sense anyway. If a payment is late enough for them to make a collection call, of course they will ask a reason. But if the payment is already made?

Why would it be any of their business anyway? Only reason an employer should know about a debt is if there was a court judgment and the wages got garnished.

She was way out of line for calling you to ask you why you made a payment late. Good for you for calling and reporting her rudeness. I do hope she gets in trouble for acting so rudely towards you.

I know that she will because they all know me at the Bank - small town- and she will get it from her Manager and from her coworkers too.

Money - Money makes the world go round so fast that some people just lost their manners and to be human.
For what it's worth, I'd ask that you go harvest the organs as well considering what these institutions have to done to the world and trying to put us in mental institutions with this indecent behavior. It certainly looks like they have not learned their lessons and are still up on their high horses. So, bring 'em all down and give them a whipping session that they can remember you by. So, let's not be generous to give them the satisfaction of letting them have your 26% interest which is charged for late payment. I'd ask that you do not stoop so low as that brainless 'cow' (since she does not fit to be a human who knows about manners and decency) at the other end, but be so nice as to put the reasons for the late payment to be their fault. It is relatively true if you look at it from another angle - first they bankrupt every one with their rogue activities, gets away with a big fat bailout and instead of helping people like you and me - pocketed the money for their awaited bonuses and retrenchment benefits. While we have to struggle with other "victims" of this financial holocaust who somehow needs more time to generate and not forgetting collect our credited. The late payment is just another collateral damage to what is already happening. So how could we be on time? I'd say you be nice on this one and harvest their organs here. They do not deserve to collect your late payment interest charges. On the hindsight, I don't think we can entirely blame the staff for her behavior when she is simply another victim of these rogue institutions whose controllers are pocketing her much anticipated raise and bonuses. Now, she has to work under the dire threat on her livelihood when she does not meet her quotas of calling and recovering debts. Also, she might be another victim of her house who had just lost the utilities to her house where there's her baby toddler who's going hungry because there's no electricity to cook or boil the water for food. You see, she is lucky to have you who pays despite being a few days late but I think she has an overwhelming amount that seems to be piling on her bad debts tray which can cost her, her job. Her superiors will not be affected since they are doing their job by sacking another non performing staff and cutting cost. Not long ago, I got a similar call for my husband's credit card bill which was late due to the Autumn Festival holidays and the call went to my office because my husband had turned off his mobile because he was with a client at another office. So, you can imagine that by now - everyone at my husband's side would have knowledge that we owe the bank money (almost the whole world) and it was partly my fault because I had forgotten to do an online transfer while preparing for the family's reunion dinner which is equivalent to your Thanksgiving Day dinner at your end. So, I told her to wait while I perform an online transfer to pay the entire bill but was still asked for the reason behind the late payment. I was a little confused so I asked her for her line of questioning which she replied that it was required by her superiors - sort of like let's here it from the client's direct instead of her putting it in there herself and she would not be found when the bank decides to call up to check with the clients in her list. Trying to be cheeky myself, I asked if I could get any benefit if I have a valid reason and she said that I might have my late payment interest waived (24%). Uh huh! So I told her to hang up and call my cell phone so that i could talk to her hands free with my wireless headset. Reason I did, brought her round the world on the whole economic cycle which is making our lives so miserable that we are all late receiving our pays, festivity preparations and children. After typing what I had said, I was told to hold on a moment while she summoned her supervisor. After a minute or two, another lady appeared on the line and apologized for the inconveniences and said that the bank is waiving the late payment interest charges. She further asked if there's anything else - wow, that was music to my ears. I gave another load full about being one of their best customers, an awful large investment portfolio and not forgetting deposit but still have to be treated like some bad loaners. Guess what? I got our account upgraded to premium with no extra charges on membership (waived entirely) and our bank account got upgraded to premier as well where we no longer need to join the queues for banking transactions. Then, 2 days later the courier brought a crate of oranges, several boxes of moon-cakes, amenities and stationeries to our home address and a bottle of Chanel No. 5 parfum for me - compliments from the bank of course. I think you can be bad and nice at the same time here. Look at what I've gained here and I hope you will do the same and reap the benefits.

What an amazing and brilliant analysis. So articulate and carefully thought out. I must tell you that I live in a Third World country and the 26 percent interest is not for late payment. This is interest charged on the whole loan. I would like to get it changed to a bank loan as then I may only be charged 11 percent interest but if I do this then I cannot use my credit card and this is necessary for my part time job. I only have a part time job due to two open heart surgeries last year. And no, we have not finished paying for this surgery. We more than felt the fall out of the US banking system - well - the whole world was affected really. Our banks make an obscene amount of money - really obscene and apart from nationalisation which is not a choice in a free market system - they seem to get away with it. I am so happy that you actually got some benefits. That would simply not happen out here. The most I will get is an email expressing apology. They will grovel a little but not because of who I am but because of whom my son is. Thank you for a really interesting and thought provoking response.everything you stated is true and applies here too. But I have fought all my life for social justice and will fight to the end.

I am quite sure that with your current good standing and reputation, you should be able to work something out from this with the bank. For starters, the bank is equipped with the latest Customer Service System which will help capture vital good standing information otherwise I don't think those management levels would be so fast as to be standing on your side. Don't be too nice with them, you must possess that "I can always take that business (deposits and all) elsewhere" attitude with these people to reap the benefits. Since the financial holocaust, customers like you are their jugular so don't you forget that and shortchange yourself. By doing this, you will just be made to run circles and let them get away with murder. At least, try to gain something other than a mere apology - make their investment on all that technology and staff training remember you by, so that the next CS attendant will remember who she's talking to. Take my word and be bad for this time or at least, for your good sake.

Good for you, cynthiann. Just because you're a sweetheart doesn't mean people should get away with being so rude. My dad always told me if someone is mean, rude, or improper with you in any business, you need to report them. The business (I guess even banks) will suffer because people will be less inclined to deal with them if they employee jerks. The people in charge need to know. And you were professional about reporting the person too. People have to learn to show respect.

I had a teller at our bank with the same problem...rude rude rude. I wanted to ask her what the heck I ever did to her that she treated me without so much as a little respect. I finally got mad enough one day to report her and the bank president called me and they fired her!!

It has been a while since I've dealt with someone like that. She really called your manager and told your personal business?? 3 or 4 days is really not so bad and you paid it. Do they not have a grace period? Regardless, there was no need for her to say anything at all. She could have just as easily sent you a notice informing you of a late fee and let you take care of it from there. We have all these "confidentiality laws" and yet she can call your boss?? I feel angry just reading this.

I can imagine a call from a Bank to remind you if you have not paid. I would even consider that nice as I tend to forget things. But it is noone`s business why I did not pay on time, even if it is not yet paid. That is my problem, not theirs. They are charging for late payment and that can be done with noone calling me. THat person was not only rude, but she was also nosy. No Bank should have those sort of employees.

Haha! She must have not known who she was dealing with! I had a somewhat similar experience, in terms of rudeness, years ago when I first got here. I was trying to buy a car, and put on a deposit for a small Toyota. After a few days, I changed my mind and wanted a bigger car/van so I could drive the kids with it. Anyway, to make a long story short, the agent I was talking to started getting rude about me not wanting the Toyota, and threatened not giving me my deposit back ($500). So, I turned around and contacted the president of his company. Told him about the agent. Not only did I get my deposit back, I was told that the agent got reprimanded.

That is not the way to deal with a client. That bank clerk needs retraining about customer relations. Because of her rudeness, the bank could lose not just one but several customers.

I'm a little bit late..Sorry, but I was dealing with the bank..LOL! Not really...thank goodness that is over! You would think after the demise of the banking system in the U.S., they would be a little more contrite...not so flipping arrogant, rude and dare I use the word "bullying!" I have dealt with the same bank, for 32 years! When we (ex & I)originally bought our business, here on the Island, and our home, most banks refused to give mortgages to the nefarious Gulf Islands..it was like we were on Mars! The bank, not only gave us a Commercial Marine Loan, but a house mortgage..but they tacked their little extra on! This year, I had to re-amortize my home loan! Even tho' I sat across from the Loan's Officer, with all documents..BAnk Papers, Property Assessments, my Tax papers...they would NOT re-new my mortgage without a British Columbia I.D. card (not even accept my Passport)! My son sat with me, with all current I.D. Still, I had to spend $75.00 to get picture I.D, which meant another trip Off Island ($100.00 Ferry fare) and a 6 week waiting period! The waiting period almost caused me to lose the original interest rate..I fought tooth and nail..pulled out all stops, and y'know I think it was all because I was female. I got that indirect feeling! I got my loan at 3.29 percent, for 10 years, I know that is good...And now, I am so embittered with this Bank, I am hoping the loans rise greatly, like to 15 percent, and they lose their shirts on me! Where do they get their arrogance from????
