What a couple of days!

OK, I'll get back to my unanswered discussions soon, I promise, but what a couple of days... Everybody's been sick for weeks. First Dearra came home with a cough, then Cary got it really badly, then Tony, then me, and now Naomi. Problem with Tony getting it is that he has copd and kidney disease, so you have to watch him really carefully. Meanwhile, he was drinking lots of orange juice, hoping he wouldn't get a high fever or bronchitis. Yesterday at lunch he got a call from his coach that his potassium was high, too much orange juice. And for the last couple of days his legs have been hurting. Last night at dialysis his chest started hurting and they told him to go to the ER. So that's what my night was like last night. Drove him up to Kaiser and sat while they did test after test. Bronchitis. So they decided to keep him overnight, and I went home because I have children that I have to get to school. Got about 3 1/2 hours of sleep when the alarm woke me up from a dream about hospitals. So I dropped the kids, called in sick, went back to sleep, and was woken up after less than 2 hours to go pick Tony up. Got home, went back to sleep. After I woke up, I had lunch and watched my soap, then went to pick up the kids. I went to the middle school first, mainly because the high school has too much traffic at that time of day. Texted Naomi that I'd meet her by the gym, because Cary has track. Waited and waited, didn't realize that track doesn't get out until 3:30 (cross country last fall got out between 3 and 3:15). Naomi came by a little after 3. At 3:30, no Cary. So Naomi went and looked in the gym. No Cary. She asked a teacher, who looked in the boy's locker room. No Cary. Meanwhile, Dearra had given up waiting for us, and had walked over. So, a little worried, but not panicked, we drove over to the teen center. There was Cary, happily playing video games with his friend. Apparently he had fallen during school and scraped his knee, told a friend he wasn't going to track, and walked over to the teen center. Sigh. Told him that next time he was to go and tell a teacher, a track teacher specifically, if something like that happened. Sigh. Both girls commented that this was why Cary needs a phone. Also why Cary can't be trusted with a phone. Tell me again why it's illegal to strangle your children? I need to be reminded...

If you were a guppy then it would not be illegal as guppies eat their children alive. And there was I feeling bored earlier today and did not know of all this drama going on in your life. Seriously I do hope that Tony gets well very soon and also all the other sick ones in your family. Now please don't get sick and keep reminding yourself that you are not a guppy

My daughter's favorite phrase when stressed over my grandson is: "Now we know why some mothers eat their young!" Yuck but there are times. My grandson has been rather low key here at home and just the opposite at school.

Court was yesterday? A rubber knife, and he didn't get kicked out?

I wish I could say 'yes!' but things have actually gotten worse. He has threatened the teacher twice with bodily harm, and the other kids in the class once as well. He took a rubber knife to school one time and threatened the teacher with it. I asked him this evening to take the trash out(his only chore right now)and he replied, "In your face!" He has a court date this Friday and I am hopeful that he will get the reality check he needs. Each time I try to talk to him about his responsibilities and what is expected of him he rolls his eyes and walks off. And he's 10 years old not 13 or 14.

It's illegal, Dawn. Tony may need to be careful about how much orange juice he drinks, since it does have a lot of sugar.

don't think the sugar was the issue... And it's only illegal if you get caught. :-D

Cary does not need a phone. If he did not tell his teacher and why was he playing video games? He should have been in the classroom doing his homework. You sound like you had a very confusing day. Can't strangle your children because that is murder and also because someone who hates children will be celebrating if you do and you do not want that, do you?

No, this was after school. After school the children go to the teen center. They have video games there among other things.

Now I understand. I thought he was playing video games at home when he should have been doing his homework or skipping classes at school.

Ugh...so so glad my girls are grown and those days are over(somewhat). Can't tell you how many times one of my daughters would call and ask to be picked up from the library and then be waiting for me at Stop&Shop and swearing that she told me to pick her up there. That's just one little example but the thing is...they changed plans and may have had all good intent on cluing me in and seemed to think they DID clue me in but they really did not. That sitting around waiting thing....thank the Lord for great books!!

ilost my response.thou cannot strangle thy children as they will put you in the pokey for that lol. You do need to make it clear to Cary that he is to tell his teacher if he cannot go to whatever class he skips and why as the teacher must know too.He should have notified his track teacher at once.I c an imagine you were a bit ticked off at Cary?He w ill learn though so take it easy by the way a pokey is an old fashioned term for jail.

The Chinese has an ancient saying that no matter how ferocious a tiger is, it will never eat its young. I really hope that everyone in your family will recover soon and regain back their health. At the same time, you need to remember to take care of your health get your winks sufficiently - you may need to sleep a few hours more. Sleep....

Tell me again why it's illegal to strangle your children? I need to be reminded... The same way it would be illegal for my kids to strangle me when I'm old and gray (and loopy) when they decide to take care of me in the future, and I continue to be difficult! Hope you are all feeling better today!

Well you might have a point there, although if you strangle them first, they can't strangle you later... (evil grin)

"Tell me again why it's illegal to strangle your children?" I am not sure about this. During the antiquity, in Rome, you could legally kill your children, but I think that today it is forbidden in civilized countries because they have a family-oriented and pro-natal policy.
