Do you redily give out your e-mail?

Part of my job is to ask customers for their e-mail address to receive sales information. I've noticed more an more people do not want to give out their e-mails anymore than they want to give out a phone/mobile number. Sadly, corporate folks push for numbers of new e-mails and various sign ups to those of us on the front lines. I have a friend who has a similar program at her work and they are on her about making numbers too. People have either given out their info already, unsubscribed, or just don't want to. Sometimes I feel like I need to be a shady car salesman to even get one e-mail that isn't in our database so I don't get talked to. Do you readily give out your e-mail or sign up for retailers programs? Or Do you feel an e-mail is personal info like a phone number or birthdate ect?

I'd rather give out an e-mail address than a phone number. An e-mail is easy enough to ignore if I want to.

I totally agree on that one. Much easier to ignore... as we are all programmed to jump when we hear our phones ring.

I have more than one email address and when it's necessary, I give the one that's full of spam anyway. I don't think too much about it because I can delete whole blocks of emails. I know that others feel differently, though. I will never give out my phone number to anyone I don't personally know and that means no businesses except those I have to deal with (banks, cellphone provider, etc.).

Yes. Just like peavey. I do have more than one email address. I currently have 4. One's my corporate email. I give them to people in the office and that's how they reach me. One's for going online whenever I sign up for things. One's for my banking and finance. The last one's for my online jobs. It's better if you have plenty of email addresses because you'll know which one you should check often and you won't get bombarded with spams. Well you do but at least you get to avoid them getting mixed up with the important stuff and all.

I don't give out those things. I'm not interested in getting spammy offers in my email.

Yes, simply because I own multiple email addresses :P. As for sales information, of course I won't ever give my primary email!

For me it seems to depend on the day. I do know that I can subscribe to a newsletter then when I get tired of it I can unsubscribe. I also keep a dummy e mail for things I do not want too much of. I never see the stuff as I do not go there. I have to really trust a place to give out my e mail

I don't have trouble giving out my email. I enter a lot of contests and I would rather be contacted by email than phone because I don't answer the phone when I don't recognize the number. Sure, I go through my emails first thing and delete, delete, delete without even looking at some emails, but I leave too many to look at later and then never look at them and end out deleting them later too. When I went away in the fall I did a major unsubscribe to a lot of my emails/newsletters.

I agree with you there I'd much rather give out an e-mail than a phone number also. I don't answer the phone if I don't recognize it either and wait to hear what type of message is left on the answering machine.

I think it is not good to give phone numbers and e-mail to strangers. I think it is good to have two e-mails one for personal use and another for other purposes.

I have an e-mail account I use just for such purposes. I give it to people I don't want to talk to. Any retailer asks for my e-mail, I give that e-mail address because I hardly ever use it. That way I keep out the pesky people who always require my e-mail information when I buy something.

Actually I used to give my e-mail address easily when I was new to the internet. But that was long long time ago, probably 10 years ago. But since a few of my email addresses were hacked, I stopped giving it readily.

Depends on what its for. I have two email accounts, one is for personal & family emails and the other is where all junk emails go to lol like sales information and stuff like that. I don't like giving out my phone number so I prefer to give an email address instead.

I do not give out my email, my phone number or my address. No commercial concern has any business with any of my personal information. In fact, at one store the clerk told me she was required to get my phone number before she could complete my purchase and I said fine, I don't want you to get into trouble so I'll leave my stuff here and never return. And I did. I should have contacted their corporate headquarters but I was so ticked off for weeks that I couldn't do so and still sound like a rational person.

hi,3SnuggleBunnies! I haven't seen you for a while.... I used to be a virtual assistant and one of my tasks was to call on various companies to ask for contact info of the upper management. It is hard to get it really from the secretary. And it is almost impossible to get through the people I really needed. It takes a lot of patience really. And thinking of it if I were on their place, probably I wouldn't either coz I wouldn't want to be flooded with spam mails.
