Another Rant, I am either stressed out or flipplin stupid!

I sat down with my state taxes a little over an hour ago, and I can't figure out how to do them! For years I did my own taxes without problems. Today I am suffering from stress or a blonde moment...or maybe it is just stupidity! Dang. I did our Federal taxes using an online company. To save us nearly $30 I decided to do the state taxes myself. Dumb move. I am stuck, frustrated, insane, and ready to cough up the $30 and take the easy way out. Or, maybe I'll just call my brother for assistance.

I do my taxes, my sig. others, my parents, and help a friend! I'm an accountant by the way! I even get this way! Take a breather from them- Set them aside (out of sight- out of mind).. You still have plenty of time.. Do something enjoyable.. Come back to them and start from the beginning! Hopefully with a clear head you can figure it out- If this doesn't work- Call your brother! Maybe he can help you- Don't give up.. I don't know anything about you personally or how you file-- But I'm sure you'll figure it out! Be careful and be on the lookout-- Tax laws change yearly! It seems that NY state gave us better tax benefits this year- Not sure what state you're from- But the inside cover should show you new things this year. How about going online for help?? The government websites are a bit tricky-- but with patience you can work through them-- Check out the FAQ section... If this fails call the Help line! Good luck Butterfly!

I did my state taxes online for free. I believe most states now have online filing programs. If you find that your state has an online program you can then either Efile them or print it out and mail it. I did my son's complicated state taxes in about 10 minutes. Either way, you gotta love technology!

I can relate to your situation quite easily and the way I have dealt with it is if it can wait for a short time put aside and do some other things (even if it has to be done today) and give yourself some time to get out of the way you are seeling, then all of a sudden you will be able to tackle it! Well I hope so anyway! Good luck!

I know exactly what you mean! State tax forms have become so confusing that no one I know does their own anymore..because they can't..it's stupid the way they have done them, and I don't even try to figure them myself anymore, cause it will give me a migraine just thinking about them!...I honestly can't figure out why on earth the states have made these tax forms so stupid! If I was you, bite the bullet, pay the money, and save yourself the aggravation!

Oh sometimes as the years go by the taxation laws change and therefore make it a lot harder for us to do them, however I have had no problems over the years and always do mine and my husband's. But if your brother knows how to do them then I would phone him for his help maybe that would save you $30.00

Honestly, for me, it's hit the point where I have just given up on doing my own taxes. I kept screwing up, to the point where the government sent the papers back because I had addition errors. I teach math! What's up with that? Strangely, I can do other people's taxes, just not my own.

Only 30 bucks... That is cheap. WE had H&R BLock do our taxes last year. because we had two different state taxes. Well they messed up. So we haven't had this years done yet.

I used H&R Block online for the Federal and it cost me $10. They charge much more for the state taxes. Not sure why that is.

What percentage is the $30 of the taxes you owe? Work out how long it would take you to do these yourself, then either use the online company or do it yourself, you could probably work it out using a spreadsheet (Microsoft Excell if you have it or if not then get Open Office Calc which is free). If you do the columns right, with formulae set up, you could probably copy the formula and use it again for every other year. First year will always take longer as you will have to writed the formulae, but after that it should be fairly straightforward as a lot of it will be simular each yaer.

If you go to your states tax website you should be able to do them there for free. Also you can drive to your local state building and they will help you do them there for free as well.If you do that then you could sign them right there and they will stamp and file them right then so you can get them faster.

You're probably just stressed out or thinking about something else. I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think it's stupidity at all. $30 isn't much to spend on state taxes so if you are still not able to do it then take it somewhere to do it for you. It will take the stress off of you. Maybe some things have changed on the tax forms this year. Good luck. Take your time and relax.

My husband uses an accountant; pays him $125 to do it..! I had, at one time thought about taking the classes given by H&H Block - the potential money a person can make is amazing. I still may try to do that. I feel for you, good luck.

If your brother can handle these matters and if its impossible for you to handle this matter single handedly you must called him.

Hi. well im at work and on my lunch break and dont have time right at this moment to read through all the responses you have gotten on this subject. But i do know here for Ohio you can go onto the goverment site for the state and i think there is a link for filling your state taxes if its not on the state site try www.irs.gov. I know this because i filled both at the same time this year and i think if you go to like h&r block site they will do your federal for free but charge for the state. But if you go to the state site you can file for free. They have step by step instructions to show you how to file online. Hope this helps.. Good luck! Sorry i have had mine done and got my federal return already ...LOL sorry

I can do my federal taxes by hand, but I can't do that state forms. No clue why. This year I went through TaxAct and paid $15 for state and federal. That program found more deductions for federal and state than H&R Block did.

If you are tired, do it another time. Rest a while. We dont get to do taxes, so I dont understand the stress. But during year end, finance dpt of our company is so stressed. So I think its depressing. Getting help is also a good move. Brothers anyway love to help their sisters. I know this, cos my bro is always there to help me if needed. Dont be upset and wish you luck

Go to the IRS website, http://www.irs.gov and if you make under $52,000 a year you can use their many links to get your taxes done for free via a computer program. Most of them also offer the State versions to be added on for a small cost, generally $10. All you do is literally answer questions and plug in the numbers they specifically tell you where they are located at on your W2. You can also often use the programs and VIEW the state version but not purchase it and file with the program. Using the computer version as a guide as to how to fill it out it is all done for you. Good luck. And don't let it stress you out so much! Take some time off and try again later! Actually, if you do qualify for the free IRS versions it will take away a ton of headaches for you!
