Dress Code - The Proper Attire

Im working in a telecommunications company and we were given a 4 set uniform for the whole week and a wash day on fridays. It had a very good start with all the matching blazers and stuff like that with matching ids. But after a few months people started wearing jeans and sleeveless and miniskirts, the sad part of it is that the HR people who were the ones who implemented the dress code were the ones who first violated it and they have not set a good example for the other employees and instead of looking corporate, we looked so casual and that included me. Yesterday they have circulated the memo about the dress code and even the type of shoes to wear in the office. I planned of using jeans for today but because I dont want to be labeled as violator I am now wearing our thursday uniform with the proper shoes. I hope this wont just be the beginning, coz its always the pattern, we have been doing this a couple of times and we keep going back to our old ways. Its indeed nice to look when all the office people look corporate and formal. What about your office, do you have a dress code? Have a nice day!

My husband works at Police headquarters & they have a very strict dress code. He has to wear good trousers & a plain long sleeved shirt. Also a tie. Even in the very hot weather they are onlky allowed to wear long sleeves. So I went out & bought these very plain shirts & one new tie. He cvan have more for Christmas. They havce to be ironed perfectly too, with the creases in the right place.

I dont work in a office but we do have a dress code where i work. We have to wear a navy blue shirt and tan pants. I have broke the rules a couple of times. I was sick, didnt feel good and i just didnt feel like wearing khaki's (sp?) or capris either one. So i wore something that was more comfortable. Of course it was noticed and i got in trouble.

Well, thatsalways the case. Her ein our office we just observe the admin and also do what they do. If we can see that they are not wearing prper uniform, we also emulate them and justify when asked so that we can have good alibis for not wearing uniform.

Well you're right about that. Actually at our school we also have 3 types of uniforms. The first one is the one we used during mondays thae 2nd one is our PE uniform and the 3rd one is our regular uniform. Of all our uniforms most of the students in our school hates our monday uniform cause its hot to wear thats why some of them prefer to wear the regular uniform during mondays. Sometimes some students don't get noticed by the teachers so its fine but one time when I joined my friends to try to break the dress code we got busted and was sent to the guidance office. It was really embarrassing cause some of our classmates were laughing at as cause we got caught. But since then we never tried to do it again...lol Well it surely taught us a lesson there that to never ever break the rules... ^_^

When I was in college we dont have a daily uniform, we only have a uniform for our PE and nothing more. It was just a very cool university, I find it very comfortable coz I dont have to wear fancy shoes to match the uniform.

In our company wearing proper uniform is strictly being observed. You will not be permitted to work without your uniform unless you have a valid reason for not wearing one and have seek the approval of your superior. It's very disappointing in your case where the people who should lead the example are the one who violates this regulation (HR Personnel). I think there should be a rightful punishment for violators in order to implement such regulation (and you're not exempted from this). Discipline should be observed and should start from the top management or superior company Personnel. I think you will look elegant and honorable in your corporate uniform than a pair of jeans, just my thought.

Yes, I do look more corporate on a uniform than on jeans. I just hope thatthis time they will be serious about the dres code and I just hope all will follow, it all for our good and not for the company alone.

I don't work in an office anymore, but what you describe is the typical big poppie syndrome of a lot of people in management, and that is "do as I say, not as I do." These people are usually not good managers, but are more wrapped up in their own importance. It's best not to violate, because they are just as likely to make an example of you. Good luck & best wishes Zelmarq.

The dress code is an important tools to corporate company to unified their corporate looking and vision. Employees should be feeling proud and happy with that code of ethics. For me my staffs must wear my company's uniform on attending their duty. But I only have three(3) office staffs, because I used more online staffs.

When I worked, we had to wear blouses, tops, skirts, or dresses. The trouble was, we could not wear the same outfit every day and that meant you needed at least two skirts and two or three blouses, and they all had to coordinate with each other. That was in the days when pant suits were just appearing, and yet no one would wear pant suits. I also think that the ones who implement the dress code should not violate the dress code and wear anything they want and force you to wear a uniform. It really does not sound right.

I remember the days where women could NOT wear any pants to work at certain places. They had to wear dresses even when they had to do strenuous work. I seem to remember that even police women had to wear skirts most of the time in some towns. Even when I was interviewing for jobs in college, a lot of places had dress codes that indicated that women MUST wear skirts or dresses, but I don't think they can do that anymore.

I think having a uniform is great because you don't have a problem of buying new dress because you just have a few pair. In our office we don't have a uniform. And I think there is no need for that because we are making english educational materials here. I think the implementation of uniform depends on the company, what is the nature of the work. If it is about dealing with customers I think it would be appropriate to wear a uniform for formality. In your company case, I think if you really want to implement the uniform then you must do it. Not that one person wear this while the others use uniform.

I am already wearing the uniform religiuosly, I have realized that the company is doing it for our welfare and not for themselves. I no longer care if they use their uniforms or not as for me, I will follow what the compnay wants and I know its for all our benefit.

if i am working with you i willstill wear the uniform even a lot of the co-workers are starting wearing the casual clothes. it shows you are a law breaker when you start wear casual, and it is too low to reason that you are wearing casual becasue the others started wearing one. it is really nice to see (ladies specially) if they are in their corporate get up.

Yes, im a law breaker too like all of those who wear the casual attire. I just hope I could make it up to them by wearing the uniforn religiously and i will not to violate our dress code. I know this is all for our own sake.

Yes, we do have a dress code here in the office just like you. By the way, I work in a bank. We also have 4 sets of uniform and we do have a separate polo shirt for Fridays. This polo shirt has a logo of our company on it. These were all given last July of this year. But there are some situations wherein an employee is permitted to wear casual and these include being on an official business trip outside of the bank premises, or attending functions or gatherings as representatives in favor of the company. Based on experience here in the office where I've worked for almost three years, employees do wear the uniform for about five to six months. After this, they would prefer to wear their own casual clothes without notifying the personnel officer. This is quite similar with the behavior in your office. But I'm not one to be caught doing this. However, it's not because I don't want to; but mainly because I have only a few pairs of casual clothes to spare. But honestly & on a personal view, I do like our present uniform and I do plan to use them until we are given the set of new ones.

Wow, thats good for you having new sets of uniforms. Our compnay have no plans in giving us new uniforms for this year. I guess they do that every other year coz they are the ones who will pay for the uniforms and we just have no choice but to wear what they give us.

We do have a dress code. For the most part, it is casual, so that's good. But I work in the office, of a group home, and because, even though I don't work directly with the residents, I am not allowed to wear open toed shoes, either, because of the wheelchairs. I hate that, because in the summer, I sometimes, like to wear sandals. I am thankful for the fact, that I can wear jeans, coz I hate dressing up.

I used to work in an HR before. And yah, the hardest thing to do is to follow your "own" rules. But we can not do on those people who rather follow thier likings in fashion than uplift the corporate look of the company. nevertheless, people like can stand frim in keeping it up. Just don't go with the flow- but hold on to what you think is right.

I have worked at offices where they have dress codes, but like yours, most of the people who implement the dress codes are the biggest violators. I especially hate it when they point out violators when they are not in compliance themselves. This one place had "favorites" that they let wear what they want to wear, but not other people. The place I work at now has a dress code, but a lot of people don't pay attention to it. I've never been singled out for wearing anything, but I try to keep it professional.

I just hope this new implimentation of our uniforms will really be permanent. I have noticed that it was only good for a few months of implementation and would always end up with not using theproper uniform or the proper outfit. And I have told myselfthat I would always follow the rules of the company even others refued to do so. I have adjusted to wearing the uniform for I dont have to worry anything about what to wear the following day. At least with the uniform I am confident that its presentable enough and its corporate looking.

Isn’t that how it always is?? One or two people ruin it for everyone! I know it is like that at my job also. We have a business /casual dress code- There are always the people that go too far- and then we go back to business wear. Drives me crazy! Usually our HR department here doesn’t break the rules though- so your HR department is crazy- Lead by example!

We don't have company uniform but we do have a dress code. Corporate attire. 5 days a week. It is necessary since we deal with executive people but I would really love to have a uniform.. so that i dont have to think everyday what should i wear to the office.. Funny how people who are given uniforms by the company refused to wear them when those who don't have one wished the company will provide uniforms. lol

When I worked on the floors in nursing I of coarse had a nursing uniform. When I started we wore wite uniforms and nursing caps. Now we can wear colored uniforms. Then I went to a company where I could wear business atire. The dress code for office personal is hard to enforce because is seems some will always push the limits. We could not wear opened toed shows and where told to wear hose. But that was not followed, and most of the young girls wore short skirts which I was always two fat to wear something like that. LOL I did try to follow the dress code when I worked in the office because I was a supervisor.

Since I'm working at the management level, we don't have any dress code. But our frontliners like customer service and tellers all are wearing uniforms where they have the dress code. From Monday to Thursday, we wear the office looks clothes with tie and long sleeves shirt. But during Friday, we can dress casually. I think this is good to get the staff out of the formal day and loosen up a bit. :)
