Do You Like to Walk along the River? |
| |
| I like to walk along any river at all, but my favorite places to go are those where there is a bit of civilization on one side and a feeling of being alone on the other. I like to stand between town and country, so to speak. That way one has all the urban conveniences, but can, at the same time enjoy the pleasant calm influence of nature. I took this photo while walking along "my" river, that is, the one that runs past my home. I love the river! Even when I'm not looking at it, I know that it is there. To me it is like a living friend. Walking is good exercise, but walking along the river is like taking a mini-vacation. Every time I come here is special. If you look closely at the photo I took of one of my favorite places to walk, you will see a small boat. It is called a water taxi, and these go up and down the river all day, taking tourists from one resort to another. I will never get tired of watching the water taxi glide past. What about you? Do you like to walk on the beach along the ocean, getting your bare feet in the sand? Or would you prefer hiking shoes and a wild forest with no path? How about a river like mine, with a paved sidewalk and little boats to remind you that there is a nice restaurant right around the corner? Do you think walking along the river is a good exercise? Please share your experiences! | | I love to walk along the river! | | | | |

| | From kid i love to walk along the river. My grand pa used to carry me when i was kid and take me near the river beside his village home. I was facinated by the scene -the water gushing, the birds crooing and the fish jumping out of the water. I used to go regularly after that. After marriage I took my children also there who like me enjoyed it. Recently in United states i had a walk along the river side in Iowa along with my grand son. It was nice experience. Three generations now we are still walking on the side of the river remembering our younger days and thanking mother nature. happy day. | | | | | | |

| | Oh, yes, I quite forgot to mention the lovely sound that the water makes, especially if there are some rocks which make the water clap and swirl. It seems as though the current is carrying all the word's troubles away. | | | |

| | I love walking by the river, I definitely love the sea more than the hills. Walking along the river would makes me feel so relaxed. I think it's an inner calmness that it brings *smiles*. Around here, I would go to the beaches from time to time to get my feet into the sand and stare at the sea thinking about nothing. It's really a good experience for the mind and soul! | | | | | | |

| | I like to go barefoot in the sand, too, but I grew up along the river and used to go out on my little boat, so the river is very special to me. I can just see you staring at the sea! | | | |

| | Oh you are so lucky to grow up so close to Mother Nature. Well, all we have here are concrete! Anyway, we do have a few beaches but those are usually packed with people during summer time and you see more people than sand *laughs*. Usually when I need to have that calmness in life, I would go at night or during autumn or winter, just get myself lost in the thoughts. It's interesting how Mother Nature could comfort a restless soul sometimes *smiles*. Oh yea? You can see me staring at the sea? Haha. | | | |

| | Yes, if it's a clean river. But I prefer to walk by a lake or alongside an ocean -- much more peaceful & soul-shaking. | | | | | | |

| | I'm not so sure my soul needs shaking. But walking along a lake or ocean is very peaceful. My river is just below the dam, so there is a lovely lake very near, too, where I also love to go. However, there are no "facilities" there. It can seem quite desolate sometimes. | | | |

| | Hello drannhh Now you are talking drannhh! This girl loves all water. Period. I have and do love to walk and if there is water, I will be more than happy. It sounds wonderful your river. When I was young, and my son was a wee one, we lived in Oxford, England and used to stroll by the Thames River daily nearly. It was the most soothing experience and he also remembers the lovely swans and all the experience as a whole. I am happy to be near any kind of water, but the ocean is in my blood. Thank you for sharing this beauty and your world with us. It is most welcomed and appreciated by me. | | | | | | |

| | Someday I must show you my painting of a woman sitting under a tree reading a book entitled "La Mer" -- did you ever reflect on the fact that the words "mere" and "mer" meaning "mother" and "sea" are so close in sound and spelling? Just like Mary, and now you have me on a tangent because of this beautiful page: http://www.sacredsites.co... Of course this is touched upon in Dan Brown's novel The DaVinci Code, and before that books such as Holy Blood, Holy Grail, but all that is from the writings of men. Saintes Marie de la Mer, France, is one of the places in the world where I have never been but still hunger to visit. Machu Picchu in Peru is another. | | | |

| | Yes, you have put your finger right on it! For me the ocean is so overwhelming that although I love to go there, I do not feel it quite on the same level as me. The ocean is like a powerful magistrate whereas the river is my friend. | | | |

| | Exactly. In the spring and summer we live not far from the ocean, but in the fall and winter we live several days drive inland, on the river. When I go to the ocean I feel like a visitor, but when we come back to the river, I feel that I am coming home. Driving toward it as we wind around the hills, I wait breathlessly to catch a glimpse of "my" river winding in and out far in the distant valley. When I finally see it coiling like a blue snake hiding in fields of green, I can breathe again. | | | |

| | THat looks like a lovely place to walk. Myself because I do prefer the ocean, I really enjoy walking in the sand with the waves crashing at my feet. But a river will do too I like to be close to the water. I also love to hike in trails along the lakes in here or take the canoe and go even when there are lots of portages to pass :) Walking is always healthy and a good exercise and when it's done in an clean fresh area, away from the pollution and with some water involved .. it's the best :) | | | | | | |

| | It has been years since I have been in a canoe. Yes, it is a tragedy when the places we love to walk are ruined by pollution and in so many cases nowadays, litter from thoughtless people, isn't it! I can remember a time when everyone in a public place picked up any garbage they saw lying on the ground and disposed of it instead of bring their own in and dumping it. | | | |
