What do you use your microwave for? I only use mine for warming things up and for defrosting frozen foods. I never use my microwave for cooking. I don't like to cook my foods in the microwave because I find they come out rubbery. Like chicken for example. That has to be the worst food to cook in the mircrowave. I have tried to cook it on a few occasions and it always comes out rubbery.
So how about you, Do you cook foods in your microwave or do you just warm them up?

1. wolfie34 (13865) | 2 years ago | I actually dumped my microwave, mainly because it was not needed and it was in a right state! I don't like microwaves to be honest, and the food is definitely not of the same quality as when it's done in the oven. I haven't replaced it, and I haven't missed it in all honesty, I can easily live without a microwave.

3. princesslexie1001 (1199) | 2 years ago | i don't usually cook in the microwave... i think it's dangerous with all the electro-magnetic wave thingies... lol we always use the stove... but we do use the microwave once in a while for reheating food... one time, i tried making pizza in the microwave and it was a complete mess... the crust was rock hard and burnt! (not to mention all the carcinogens!) and all the toppings were left uncooked... it was terrible... i also tried cooking a sunny side up egg in there but when the time it was done... i smelled it and it exploded right into my face! it was like a firecracker thrown at me... never again!

owlwings (5178) | 2 years ago | Your failures are due to a misunderstanding of how a microwave cooks. It works because many things are partially transparent to microwaves (just as water and glass are transparent to light). Microwaves are a much longer wavelength, however, so if you could 'see' in the microwave spectrum, water would look opaque because it absorbs microwaves strongly. Try standing two jars of water out in the sun, one of which you have coloured with ink or food colouring. The coloured one will get very much hotter because it absorbs the sun's energy and converts it into heat. Most foods are partially transparent to microwaves but water isn't, so it is the water in foods that gets heated. In the case of an egg or a potato, that build up of steam can make it explode! Always p.r.i.c.k (MyLot filters this word, LOL) the egg yolk with a sharp knife or a pin before cooking them (if you must). Eggs are much more successful scrambled, though. Your pizza, unfortunately, got too hot in the crust before the topping had a chance to be heated. Bread and pastry in general do not work well in a microwave. You can warm rolls successfully (no more than 10 seconds!) and chapattis, papadums, tortillas and flatbread can be heated too. Most of them you sprinkle with water and interleave with kitchen paper before giving them between 10 and 30 seconds. Papadums should be brushed with oil and interleaved with kitchen paper. They work nearly as well as cooking under a grill and they are less oily than deep fried ones.

| 4. turquoise_ice (84) | 2 years ago | I usually heat frozen pizzas and food in the fridge that are meant to be eaten hot. I try to avoid the microwave to heat my food. But sometimes, you are out of options when you are on the go. In the past, I heated milk in the microwave, but the heat doesn't distribute very well. So I stick to the stove.

5. lilybug (15316) | 2 years ago | The only thing I really ever cook in the microwave is popcorn and baked potatoes. Other than those two things I use the microwave for reheating things. Oh wait, I made peanut butter fudge in the microwave a few days ago. It turned out ok. My son really likes it.

6. RLFinNash (5721) | 2 years ago | hello chrislotz
and another thing that is gross cooked in the microwave oven is a baked potato. ewww...talk about rubber. the only good way to cook anything in any kind of a microwave oven is if it has a confection oven with it as well as a regular microwave oven. the confection oven works just like a regular oven does. you can put any kind of food in the confection oven and it will taste great. but the only thing that i use my microwave oven for is to re-heat leftovers or warm something up in a can, like soup or something like that. and microwave popcorn is always a good snack.
have a beautiful day!

7. brimia (6187) | 2 years ago | The only thing I cook in the microwave is oatmeal...saves me from having to clean a pan that has oatmeal glued onto it. Most things, however..like you said never come out right when cooked in the microwave. I don't eat microwave frozen meals or microwave popcorn. I mostly use it for quick warm ups or defrosting. Even for that it seems to superheat the plate or bowl and unevenly heat the food so it's never at the right temperature and doesn't seem to stay warm as long either.

8. maximax8 (10520) | 2 years ago | I have a microwave and a normal cooker that has rings to cook on, a grill and an oven. The cooker, apart from the rings takes time to warm up. I am not very good at cooking. I boil water in my kettle, add this and pasta to water and put it into my microwave. The pasta is really in five and a half minutes. I cook pasta sauces in my microwave too. I like to heat soup that has come from a tin in my microwave. I like to cook rice in my microwave and it is the quick cook variety that is in there for two minutes. I like to use my baby's bottle cleaner in my microwave and I can clean six bottles in four minutes. I like to eat many cold foods like salad, vegetables and fruit raw.

9. lolalolacherrycola (631) | 2 years ago | We use ours primarily to reheat things or for popcorn. However, I sometimes us it to make rice. It turns out perfect everytime and takes about the same amount of time to make it on the stovetop.

10. whittby (2039) | 2 years ago | I generally use the microwave for heating up stuff and I sure would miss it. I also make popcorn, oatmeal, and simple stuff. Hate most stuff cooked in the microwave. If I get those frozen vegetables out now called "steamers" I think is what they're called, they turn out well, but you're paying for the convenience. They also have bags available for steaming foods in the microwave and that improves the quality. I did a marinated chicken in one of them and turned out well. Again, you're paying for convenience, but they were nice...whit
