What happened, bala? Did you have an ouch??? Here's a little hint I learned from somewhere. Put the nail between the teeth of a comb to hold it in place. Then if you miss the mark with the hammer, you won't slam it down on your finger.

Accept my BR first. All these years I have never come across a valuable tip like this.I feel very confident with a comb as a warrior with his sword.

Yes. I can hit a nail with a hammer without hitting my fingers. I have missed on occasion though and got my poor finger. I have helped my husband with alot fo projects around the house and we have used alot of nails and screws for the wood projects. I do pretty good but every now and then, I miss that nail head. I try to keep my fingers out of the way though.

Fingers out of the way?Who holds the nail for you?Does that person has any fingers left?

Unfortunately those very first tappings are the disastrous ones for me.

No, LOL. I tap tap the nail lightly to get it in place and then I move my fingers out of the way and hit the nail hard to drive it into the wood, silly. I never hit it hard when first trying to get it to start into the wood.

Only if I pay attention to what I am doing Bala! And there is no one watching me, standing over me giving me instructions or nagging me to do it right, then I am tempted to use the hammer on them! Only joking, thankfully I have never hurt myself using a hammer, it's the chisel I have to worry about and I have caused myself a nasty injury by missing what I was supposed to be chiseling, ouch!

No one dares to come near me and guide me who is there sweating nervously and shivering unless they wear a strong helmet. That chisel part is gruesome.Take care.

with concentration and practise comes skill and perfection. so yes, if today i get to do this task, i might not succeed at once, but eventually i guess the probability of my hitting the nail without actually hurting my fingers at one go is likely to increase..

Next time I want to hit a nail I will hire a person and ask him to do that standing beside him and reading aloud what you have typed here. That sue looks like a great way of getting the thing done perfectly.

I would love to be able to do that really! :) My girlfriend gave me a gift for my last birthday. It was a nice framed photo of us and I wanted to nail it to my room. I got a hammer and started hitting the nail slowly, but as you can guess it was not enough and I had to hit it harder and from a little further distance which would make my hit less accurate and would lead to a finger injury for me :) Well, I was too scared to try that on my finger so I tried to do it more safely. OK, I didn't hit my finger but also I couldn't hit the head of the nail correctly and it was a little broken :) haahahah Well, I got another one and put it to next to broken ones root and started hittng slowly. I said to myself: "If I do it permanently and patiently, it will soon be ok. Well, I hit it so many times but as you can guess I did it softly, and it took a while me to hit the nail there. My mother was asking why it took that long and even my gf said she might do it for me next time. heheheheh I don't know why I am that unskilled when it comes to this kind of issues.

I can use a hammer without missing and hitting my fingers, and before I could afford a hammer I used to use my high heel shoes!

I could...but that was years back. I've never had to try it in the past few years....actually, I've had to....but I never did for lack of time (you know how busy one gets with kids around). But I'll be getting back to all that hammering soon enough...and I'll let you know if my aim is still as good:)

I can understand how nailed are you to your kids. And by your responses I gather your aim is always accurate. The proverbial hitting the nail right on the damn head.

I have hit my fingers a time or two. But I am a quick learner and now I'm pretty good with a hammer. I like to work with my hands.

Yes I can...well at least most of the time. I have done much work as a carpenter's helper and I can almost feel my thumb throbbing just responding to this discussion.

I remember your discussion about people paying attention to beauty 0only.You got to prove your versatility to get the respect instead of complaining about the people and calling the essentials as wild games.Rise up to the occasion Ganga. You can do what all my lady friends here are capable of doing.

Nope I am the world's worst klutz when it comes to using a hammer to hit a simple nail. I either miss it or bend the nail sideways oh oh or hit my thumb and leave a nasty blood blister it always happens that way I am a no.one klutz. by the way just for fun I never saw a hammer on it's head before lol I do know what you meant but had to have a little laugh sorry.

i am very lucky, i have never accidently hit my hand with a hammer. I don't know if it's just luck or a matter of me not really using hammers and nails very often. These days we use screws for almost everything. they are stronger and it is so much easier to use a drill than be hammering away. Nails to me always bothered me - my parents have been remodeling for the past 15 years or so and they always have nails lying around and I am so afraid someday one of us will step on one and get hurt!

It`s a intersting discussion . Hit a nail on it`s head without missing and hitting fingers . It`s easy . Just make it done slowly and carefully . That`s no problem !
