My neighbor says they're weeds but I think they're beautiful and wish there were more of them!

I have them. I think they're some kind of clover, or "sour grass" as we used to call it. Yep, they're weeds, all right, but I agree with you, they are pretty.

Yes I have them too. Not sure what they're called, but they are wild, as in you don't have to plant them or care for them. If you like them, who cares? Let them grow! I once picked wild flowers from a field to transplant into my lawn just because I liked the looks of them. I was later told they were weeds, but I didn't care, they were pretty and colorful.

I do the same thing! LOL Whenever I see something pretty, as long as it's not on somebody's property, I'll take some home with me. Weeds or not, if they're pretty I want some in my yard. Take care and happy digging!

I've seen such beautiful "weeds" since I've been back to Ohio! I'd forgotten how lovely the weeds are here! Thanks for helping me, both of you!

I also believe these are Buttercups. They seem to have the same shape and 5 petals as well. They are pretty but very invasive as well. they will spread in time all over if allowed to. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Remember, a weed is only a plant that is growing in the wrong place! I think the flower you have photographed is wild oxalis. http://www.calflora.net/bloomingplants/wildoxalis.html I have it too, and it's rather lovely.

I never thought of weeds in that way but you're right! A lot of weeds are prettier than the flowers most people like.

A friend of mine is trying to creat a wild flower meadow, so I spend loads of time saving my 'weeds' and potting them up for her!

These are wild oxalys. They proliferate from spores and many greenhouses will unknowingly pass them along in your bedding plants you buy. They are beautiful, but they can take over quickly as they don't need much incouragement. One poster said they are "sour grass". That is a common name for them, as is "sheep shear". The leaves are edible. I don't know if you can eat them raw, but you can cook them up like any greens.

That's great to know. When the price of food gets too high, I'll live off my buttercups! Seriously, have you seen the price of a bag of salad?! I'm back to buying heads of lettuce!

Have you also noticed that bagged salads have a peculiar taste? I can't really describe it, it's just kind of yucky, more a smell than a taste. And it spoils really fast if you store it in the same bag you bought it in. I've had heads of lettuce stay nice and crisp for 7-10 days, whereas bagged salad goes bad in 2-3 days. I like the variety of bagged salad, though, all the mixtures are nice. When my mom comes back next month there'll be two people here and I can buy a variety of different lettuce without it going to waste!

LOL. Yes. I've never bought bagged salad and now I'm even less inclined to do so. I usually buy the curly leaf lettuce or romain because they keep longer than iceberg, and I hate throwing food away. I'm always a little sad when it gets so hot that the dandelion leaves are too bitter to eat. I don't usually have enough sour grass for a meal, but this year's different. That won't last long. It'll get really bitter later on too.

Love this plant. As a kid we would eat the leaves and flowers. They are tasty.

I never thought of eating them, although when my grandma served us salad there were a lot of oddly shaped greens in it! They were always delicious, though. I have a head of lettuce in the fridge, I think I'll pick some of the greens from this and add it to the lettuce! I didn't know you could eat the flowers, too, seems like such a waste of beauty.

It is Yellow wood sorrel (oxalis family). It is very powerful herb. American Indians ate wood sorrel, and the leaves were used as a treatment for scurvy.

There are so many "weeds" that have herbal quality and can also serve as good food...

Thank you! Isn't it funny that so many of what we call weeds are actually very useful and beautiful!

I'm not sure what they are but I think your neighbor is correct and that they are a type of weed. I am sure you can find them on a website somewhere. If my mother were still alive she could tell you!! She had the greenest thumb and grew the most beautiful flowers in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, I didn't inherit that from her!

I never had a green thumb till I was in my 40's! All of a sudden, flowers would grow for me, I never figured out why.

They are very pretty and some consider it a weed. it is 'called oxalis, and sometimes you can find it in pink.It grows wild here in Southern Ca and is considered a weed 'but I also think it is pretty. They do multiply like crazy.
