I took Eddie back into my work today for a checkup and some more xrays to see if his nerves had begun to grow back. Unfortunately they haven't and his hip is still dislocated so that means specialist surgery!Even with a staff discount the surgery is still going to cost around $2000AU. When I told my mother she nearly fainted. We have decided to through with the surgery and it's going to set us back obviously but it's what we're prepared to do for Eddie. He's a member of the family and there's no other option.
It's times like this that I realise how important it is to have pet insurance.
I just keep reminding myself that we're lucky he's still alive! Oh pets, can't live with them, can't live without them!

That is a lot of money - around £975 here! I dread to think what it would have cost you without staff discount coffeeshot but it is great that you care enough about Eddie to pay for this operation and make sure he has as good a life as possible! How soon will he be getting his operation? xxx

Oh my. I am so sorry to hear that. I was hoping that he would heal right away. I have a Pomeranian and his legs get dislocated all of the time because of his legs are not like other dogs. He is bowlegged like most Pomeranians are. They are known to dislocate because of it. We have had to have him in a sling twice now because of it but it resets. Our dog is a member of our family also and he gets treated very well. That is expensive but worth it for the little ones. We are so lucky to have our dog for ten years now also. I hope Eddie gets better. You must love him alot. Poor thing.

It must be terrible to see your dog have to go through that! At least it resets itself and hopefully doesn't cause too much pain.

i'm so sorry to hear what happens to your dog eddie... yes i agree with you that the price of medical expenses here in australia is very dear as i am living in australia as well... but again, life is much more precious and important and it can't be replaced with money... we can earn the money again by working but not life once it is lost... good luck for your dog's operation and i wish him a speedy recovery... please give him a big hug from me... take care and have a nice day...

Hi coffeeshot, what a pity to Eddie. Thanks God he's alive and safe from his suffer. Yes, we can't ignore to them. They are our family members. Actually, I did face the same situation. It's about 2 years ago. I just came back from college for some 1 day break. I just rest on the couch and Danish ran into the house and hiding under the couch. I was so surprised why he did like that. I tried to take him out under the couch but he ran away to the kitchen. After that I could catch him and saw what happened.
His hands were full with blood and his up and down jaw was broken. I had no word on that, my tears couldn't stop raining on my cheek. He got a very bad fever. He's always be that sensitive for his health. Even if he ate something that came outside of the house he will get cold and we had to massage his body to ease him. His voice is so slow as a cat but in that condition he had no voice no more. I did bring him to the hospital immediately.
He had the surgery and the doctor said the temperature of him was more than 100 C. I thought he will get disable after that but I leaved everything to God. He was in hospital for 12 days and almost everyday I went to see him. The costing of his expenses in hospital was $1200. It's made my pocket so hard cuz in that time I was a student but as you said no choice. he's my family members and I took care of him ever since he was very tiny baby. But, don't worry on money we could get it but it's very important on the persons or anything that we really love most. Give my big hug to dear Eddie

Hi coffeeshot! Oh poor Eddie! The surgery is really expensive and if this happens to one of my dogs, I don't know how I can afford it but I know that we will do everything we can to to go through with it also. Unfortunately for us, we don't have any pet insurance here in our country.
I am so happy to know that Eddie has such a loving and supportive family around him. I know that he will be alright. And I am glad that little Alfred is doing well.
Take care and God bless!

Well that's a rough situation. I do hope Eddie can get the help he needs. More importantly I hope you are able to make due Coffee with the setbacks. Eddie's health and wellbeing are important but so are your own. Take care.

Ouch! Even with staff discount that is going to be a lot of money to pay.
Poor Eddie. I know it will be worth it to see him running around again. I am sure he will get good treatment and hope he makes a full and speedy recovery after surgery.
It does show how important it is to insure your pets.

Good Luck with the surgery. You really have no other choice even if it is expensive because once you love a pet you will do whatever necessary to keep them happy, safe and healthy. It would be horrible to have to watch your pet be in pain and unable to do anything about it.

oh wow! that is a lot of money! i guess it really depends on priorities. in our case, that would be to get a new dog. because with that kind of money, that would mean selling our house just to get the operation going!
anyway, well whatever makes you happy right?
hope that the surgery will turn out well for your dog.

Ouch Coffeeshot, so sorry to hear this. I was really hoping he was going to make a full recovery. Maybe with you working there a payment arrangement can be made. I know this is hard, during the winter we had an emergency with our dog of 10 years and had to actually take out a loan to cover the vet bills. It happens and we do what we have to to get through..... Give Eddie a big hug and pat for me.

Poor Eddie! But of course, he is one of the family, and you will do what has to be done for him - whatever the cost, because you love him.
This happened to me a few years go. My dog was only 2 years old and he got cancer at the top of his spine where it meets the brain; the vets didn't know how bad it was till they opened him up and then came the phone call to ask permission to put him to sleep, because there was nothing they could do for him. We knew the operation was going to be expensive (over $2,000), but we had to try.
They are members of the family too, and we love them as such.
I pray that Eddie's operation will be a success; please let us know how he's doing.

Aww that sucks but i'm glad you are going through with the surgery. I hope he comes through it well and makes a complete recovery. I know how important a pet can be like a member of the family.
