Scary and limpid animal |

My pet dog, a white colored pomeranian is all in shrouds when lightning and thunder strikes. What makes her so fearful is still a mystery.

1. stephcjh (14877) | 6 months ago | I have a Pomeranian also. We have had him for ten years now. He is so scared of thunder and lightning also. He will lay right by us and shakes all over from it. He is also scared of the oven door and the toaster. He hates it when someone uses a hammer to hammer something also. I think it is just the unexpected noise is what scares them. They are unsure of it.

3. eeyore39 (1987) | 6 months ago | That is not unusual at all. A lot of animals fear the sites and sounds attributed to thunder and lightning. You will probably find that she is also afraid of fire works as well. That is why so many animal owners hate the fire work celebrations so much. They freak out their animals. I think it is the fear of the unknown. Loud noise and flashes and they don't know where they come from. Some of the sounds also hurt their ears. Best to keep her inside when these things are going on. There will still be noise but she can find a comfortable and familiar place to hide.

4. darkblueverbatim (2112) | 6 months ago | A lot of dogs don't like thunder, I've had dogs in the past and when thunder was around they all tended to try and get inside. I'm not sure if they don't like the noise or they know it is accompanied by lightning which is dangerous. A lot of dogs don't like fireworks either.

5. serendib (1034) | 6 months ago | Pomenarians are very fragile dogs. They need alot of care and unlike most other dogs they do tend to get frightened more. My cousin had a pomenarian and she would always brush the dog's teeth. I guess they have less calcium in their bodies compared to other dogs. Maybe that's why they have such delicate bones.

6. season0907 (1697) | 6 months ago | Hi sukumar794, It is not only your dog, any dog of any breed will beheave like that only because all the dogs don't like water. You can watch, they hesitate to take bath, they hesitate to step out when it is raining, they always avoid walking in water(unless there is no other way) and this is the general habit of the dogs. I am sure that you know that the person who suffer from hydro phobia( mad dog bite) will have the first symptom of showing fear for water - it is a natural instinct of a dog. So, nothing wrong with your dog. Good Luck.

7. lilybug (9862) | 6 months ago | My dogs do not like lightening and thunder either. They do not like to even be out in the rain. Give them a storm and they come running in and will not go back out until the skies are clear.

8. wisconsin26 (1915) | 6 months ago | I have a dog just like that but she's a bigger dog, Even I couldn't figure it out until I was told that she was shot at as a puppy... She runs and hides when it does thunder and lightening out and hears loud bangs.. My one collie that I had was a total opposite of her.. He loved going out in the rain barking at the thunder and lightening, I think he thought it was the coolest thing in the world to do.. To bad he died on me.. However he was a very, very old dog.. Did you get her from some one that could of done things like that to her or treated her badly? Just wondering cause things that happen to them live with them forever just like humans..

9. kimlot (4364) | 6 months ago | Hi sukumar, not mystery, dogs have very sensitive ears and a wonderful six sense. I believe that the noise alone scares the dog as well as the fear of mother nature and her fury. Dogs have more respect for God and mother nature then man does!

10. zeloguy (1973) | 6 months ago | Pets are more like humans than we give them credit for. Additionally some breeds of dogs are more skittish, aggressive, etc... than other dogs.... I had a beagle (hunting dog) that would not even flinch... we even took him to a fireworks show and it didn't bother him at all.... I don't think it is something that is 'wrong' with your dog, just the way he/she is. Thanks Zelo
