Bird Feeding |
|
Lately we have just been getting squirrels and blackbirds eating the seeds from the feeder out front. Well I caught what I think is a finch of some type feeding this afternoon as I was outside weeding etc. Not a great shot but still a decent shot I feel. It could also be some type of sparrow as well. I am not a bird person actually. HAHAHA!! Do you have any feeders for the local bird life in your yard? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

1. cjgrooms (3194) | 1 year ago | I had a beautiful birdhouse with stained glass sides but those spiteful little squirrels chewed threw the hanker and it broke when it hit the ground and i haven't replaced it yet. Although i did see a fishing cabin on e-bay I'm thinking on. It is made out of wood and might not break as easily!

2. peavey (3814) | 1 year ago | I quit feeding birds during the spring and summer because the squirrels would get all the feed. I want to find a different kind of feeder this fall because I love watching birds.
Your picture looks kind of like a sparrrow, but it's hard to tell.

webeishere (12463) | 1 year ago | Set out dried corn on the cob for the squirrels then. They love it and leave the seeds alone then. I think it's a sprrow of sort as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

peavey (3814) | 1 year ago | You're probably right, but I'd be cautious of encouraging squirrels at all. We have 'way too many of them. I can't grow corn or sunflowers or anything like that, because they cut them down before they're even mature.

webeishere (12463) | 1 year ago | Nahh. Corn on the cob dried out keeps them much busier and they don't mess with the seeds then. Try that. It works great. Stores even sell dried corn as well as spikes to stick them in the lawn etc for the squirrels. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

5. ElusiveButterfly (9458) | 1 year ago | We have feeders in our yard and keep them filled for most of the year. Last week we had an invader in the yard. We believe it is a bear. The pole from the feeder was taken right from the ground. Both feeders were emptied of seed and tossed aside.
We held off on refilling them. They now are half full and hopefully we will once again see the cardinals, sparrows, finches, mourning doves and blue jays as they come to feast at the feeders. Hopefully the bears will have forgotten that there was a quick treat in our backyard.

webeishere (12463) | 1 year ago | Sounds like a bears tactics ripping the pole out to easily get to the free food. I've seen this happen up north to feeders people set up for the wild birds etc. Any photos of some of these birds to share here maybe? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

webeishere (12463) | 1 year ago | I don't even think they are any hummingbirds near me due to the traffic etc. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

tyc415 (4492) | 1 year ago | Oh I don't think the traffic would have anything to do with the hummingbirds. We live one house away from a busy street. My aunt lives just off a busy highway and she has so many hummingbirds that come visit her feeders.

8. kareng (3592) | 1 year ago | Well like I said in the photo comments, I was going to say it looked like a sparrow to me. Whatever it is, it is fat and healthy! It appears he has been feeding at your birdfeeder quite often! I'll have to check back here and see if anyone has truly identified the little birdie:) Have a good one!
