What scares you the most in an hospital?

Hospital - Though it is a healing place it is the last place to go for most of the people.

Picking up another illness from someone else! Or from horrible nasty bugs that lurk around hospitals, you hear so many horrific stories about people going in for routine appointments and operations and catching something deadly from being in hospital! You think you are safe and it's all clean and healthy in hospital but it is not! I hate hospitals at the best of times and it always makes me extra nervous wondering if I am going to pick up anything from being there or from other people! Sometimes it's like russian roulette going into hospital.

Here are some of the facts that may cheer you up.(Sorry) Within hours after admission, a patient's flora begins to acquire characteristics of the surrounding bacterial pool. Most infections that become clinically evident after 48 hours of hospitalization are considered hospital-acquired. Infections that occur after the patient's discharge from the hospital can be considered to have a nosocomial origin if the organisms were acquired during the hospital stay. Within hours of admission, colonies of hospital strains of bacteria develop in the patient's skin, respiratory tract, and genitourinary tract. Nosocomial infections are estimated to more than double the mortality and morbidity risks of any admitted patient and probably result in as many as 70,000 deaths per year in the United States. This is the equivalent of 350,000 years of life lost in the United States.

Everything scares me at the hospital. At my age someone never knows what they could find or what might happen. I always think about if something was seriously wrong what would our kids do. The last time I spent the night in the hospital was when I fell on my head 7 yrs. ago ice skating. I had a splitting headache along with other complications and the big MRI machine along with others made it even more confusing. I had a concussion and a fractured skull. Then sent me home the following morning and I was so glad to get out of there and back to my own home.

The bills! No actually being serious for a minute... when you are in the hospital you are at the mercy of the doctors... sometimes you are so beat up (car wreck or accident) that you can't think for yourself or you are undergoing some test where they put you to sleep and then slice you open like meat. There are miracles that happen everyday at hospitals but every once in a while with those miracles come nightmares. Stories of instruments left inside people's bodies when they come out of surgery, the wrong medicine given to someone and they die from it. There is the beginning of life and there is the end of it. There are babies being born and old people who die. All in the same place... all at the hospital. It's the same reason we don't like police... they do a lot of good but you don't want to get a ticket or be arrested. Thanks Zelo

I hate having to sit in the waiting room of an emergency room. It scares me with some of the people in there who are freaky or just sick. It is also scary to see some of the emergency patients who are brought in with blood all over them.

I do not like anything at all about hospitals. Way too many people die in them. Like my mother, when I was ten years old. Do I need a better reason?

Bala I think the thing that scares me, troubles me the most is eager, anxious, sad eyes of the relatives and friends of the ones who are admitted. This gets unbearable if the patient is dying. I feel vulnerable on seeing the question mark on their faces. Now how can you make them explain the irreversible loss that they are awaiting soon! I feel sad and scared to face them.

Injections, needles and glucose bottles are the most scary things for me in an hospital because it hurts.

Hello again bala. The hospital can also be a very dangerous place because that is where we can easily catch a very serious disease. That's why younger kids are not allowed in most hospitals. Anyway, to answer your question. What scares me the most inside a hospital is catching a serious disease, maybe even a fatal one. That's why whenever I need to visit a relative or someone at the hospital, as much as possible, I avoid the hallway where patients with infectious diseases are confined. I don't have a very strong immune system so I have to make sure that I avoid certain circumstances that may make me sick.

WEll usuall when you're in a hospital you are sick or someone close to you. I also feel that the atmosphere of a hospital is so depressing. Everyone is sick and down there. Even the air is kinda musty. The lights are bright. I'm most afraid of blood and bleeding. I can't stand blood... it makes me feel queasy.

balasri as I worked in hospitals mywhole life the only thing that scares me as a patient is getting a staph infection when I am already ill. one can die from that really easy. other than that I am at home in a hospital as always. Being on bedrest is another thiing that I really hate as using the bedpan is not any fun at all.I have great admiration for the fine wo rk most nurses and doctors do and they are not thanked often enough.

People are always in a hurry to get out of that place and forget to thank the doctors and nurses and expect the thanks speech to be given in general by some one else in articles and speeches.

Hospitals don't really scare me, per say, but I sure would not like to pass away in a hospital. (When I die of old age of course) :)

i think its the fact that most hospitals these days are short handed and dont get to you quickly when you need something like going potty when they tell you dont get up alone. also, so many things have come out lately about hospitals making mistakes in meds and such. last time i felt better because my daughter stayed with me and i think thats what everyone should have these days. someone there to help if they dont get to you and someone to keep an eye on things.
