Do you ever get the impression that... email this discussion to a friend?

...People don't read your whole response before commenting, or maybe your whole discussion before responding.

Well, in my case I have found this to be true about the commenting on a few of my responses. It hasn't happened often, but it seems like how my responses were read or lack thereof, lead to a big assumption by the creator who then commented back. I did write back correcting them. It's just kinda awkward when people don't read things exactly how they are written. lol

Anyway, I'm not looking for input into my situation, I did what I could to correct their assumption and moved on.

I just wanna know, have you ever gotten a reply that made you think the person either didn't read the whole thing, or they read it wrong?

Yes, I've gotten that. I've also gotten people who only read the subject title before responding (even though the subject title wasn't particularly relevant to the actual topic!). I just try to laugh and move on.

I have to admit though, if a discussion is longer than one page I might not read the entire thing- though if it's interesting enough, I do try to. cool

myLot reputation of 96/100. greysfreak (896)   ranked 590 out of 25,992 in mylot.com  5 months ago

LOL Thank you for your response! lol Yep, I've see that around also, where the subject line will be something and then there will be someone in there somewhere ranting about something that has absolutely nothing to do with the body of the discussion! LOL Yep, it is kinda funny, but sometimes assumptions can be embarassing or whatever, especially when you didn't realize you were putting out a certain vibe. lol Oh yea, I know what you mean, I try to read as much of a discussion as I can, and eventually all of it if I started it. But I think the key is to read what the starter wrote and make your response out of what you take from that. And for commenting to people who wrote to me I try to make it relevant and in context, and I try not to read between the lines, because once that happens, people tend to jump to conclusions, that aren't always true. LOL lol

This never happened to me, but I already saw it in some discussions. People are just answering and answering the discussions too fast, to get the money, so they don't pay much attention to what is written.

myLot reputation of 96/100. greysfreak (896)   ranked 590 out of 25,992 in mylot.com  5 months ago

hey, yea, I definitely agree.. a lot of people just look at the title and maybe skim through something missing big pieces of information. I mean, I like the extra money, but not enough to breeze through and answer with a bunch of nonsense! LOL lol I take pride in saying what I think about a certain situation or discussion, and I don't need to just write random stuff. The thing is, it really doesn't pay more to do those kind of responses that are way random and off topic. At least that's what I've heard. So a lot of those people are wasting their time.

Thank you for your response! lol

We don't exactly know if its due to lack of understanding or lack of reading into the materials we post or it could be that our post struck them in a different way than what we expected them to understand. People have different views and different ways on how they react and how they think. Sometimes the message we want to project in our posts will not be understood the same way by all people. And other people are just lazy to read it all specially long responses like this one i'm making.

Take Care

Oh, I agree, there are times when it's just misunderstood context, and there is laziness and not wanting to read it all and just commenting off the cuff. Me, if I respond to something I have read it all, so I can give a valid comment or response. If I am in a mood where I don't want to read that much, I usually skip it or come back later! happy

Oh, LOL If you think your response is long you should see some of my responses, I am like the queen of long responses when I get on a topic or discussion that I know a lot about or just something that really catches my attention. lol

Anyway, thank you for your response. It was great to read your thoughts on this.

Hehehe... I like to see back and forth in comments, which is why I mentioned in somebody's gripe about people who start 12 threads and never come back to any of them I pointed out that I wish you could know when somebody at least read your response if they aren't going to comment. I for one like your long responses, Grey, I make some myself lol

myLot reputation of 96/100. greysfreak (896)   ranked 590 out of 25,992 in mylot.com  5 months ago

mommyboo- yea, I really like to try to keep up with responses. I may not always comment on everyone in the discussion, but I definitely try to choose a good amount of people to comment to, since they went to the trouble to reply to me! lol But I do read every one of the responses I get, otherwise I wouldn't start the discussions! LOL I mean, if I was starting them for the money I would just stick with responding, because I make just as much when I respond to a lot than when I start discussions. That is why I only start them when something really gets to me, or I think of something when I'm looking at my interests listings! happy

And that's great that you make long responses! I love to read responses! I sometimes even read long responses to other people's discussions, when I'm really in the mood to read, other times I just put in my 0.02, give some plus ratings and go on my way.:)

I haven't had it happen a lot, but it has happened. I don't know if people don't read all the discussion, or if they read it wrong. I usually go back and re read what I wrote asking myself "what did I say to bring that on?" LOL I thing the person that stated people are just answering as many discussions as possible to get money was right on. It does take longer to read a discussion and understand fully what it's about.

Oh well some are here for money only, some to chat and some for both. You can usually tell the first catagory.:)

Ho boy I got a humdinger one time. I was responding to a discussion about interracial relationships/marriages. The originator was of mixed bloods, and so am I, being that I'm part Native American...I happened to remark in my response to the originator how not that long ago, we Native Americans were still considered heathen savages...well YIKES! Out of the blue this other person chimes in, telling me "for shame on you" for saying Native Americans were heathen savages...that she was an honor student and Native American and called me an outright bigot...like HUH? Well she may have been an honor student but she obviously didn't learn one thing...how to read...I AM NATIVE AMERICAN ..so how could I be a bigot?? I was given an example of the viewpoint of people that still existed prior to the late 1800s

OMG.. WOW! Talk about jumping to conclusions! w00t LOL Some people definitely react WAY too quickly! If I read something that I found offensive, I would read over it several times before even thinking of saying something about it, and even then, I wouldn't jump down a persons' throat! WOW! Thank you for your story! People never fail to amaze me. LOLlol

I hate it when you MOVE on and you leave things behind, what do you do ring up and ask them to forward them to you or do you go back and collect them.

How many of us ever read the instructions of the new Washer/TV/electric what ever or one can say the same about cloths that we buy.

Do we ever read the CARE TAG, very rare to to.

Same with most things in life, we just crash through, them wonder why things are not working so good for us.

I tend to speed read but with that sometimes you can miss a word here and there, and this will change the outcome.
But most times it works.

In the end all works out OK.

OOPS, is a good word for most of this missing what the discussion is all about.

I responded to a discussion a long time ago....the lady started the discussion about cars....and went into spending time with the family...or when you like to spend time with them....she did it to see if her discussions were really being read. I read several of the responses and most of them responded to the car part only! I have had a few where I was confused by the response...so I asume they didn't read it all the way through.

I have been on both sides, often you see the topic and something you have experienced comes to mind, so, you start getting it down, oblivious to the fact your straying from the actual post.
Some people have responded to things i've posted and made little or no sense, thats just who we are I guess.

Sometimes, yes that happen when I give a mention (for a meaning of word that I have use in the discussion I start)in my replay for the first response to this discussion I have realized that 3 of other responses have not read the first post and the first comment of mine, maybe they read the discussion in a hurry to get more discussion to response. happy
have a good day my dear. thumbup

First of all, welcome to MyLot! lol And I am glad that you say that, actually just reading the whole thing that the discussion creator wrote was what I was getting at, I typically respond without reading everyone's responses, because I know I like to hear from all different viewpoints, so I like to return that to other users. But I do thouroughly read the whole discussion the creator wrote so I don't start writing something completely irrevelant. lol

Again, welcome! w00t
