Winter Olympics vs. Summer Olympics |
| |
| I'm pretty sure I've seen a discussion about this not too long ago, but I'm not certain what all it was about. So pardon me if I'm repeating someone else's discussion. First, I'd like to know which kind you like better? Or does it just depend where they are located? What are your favorite summer sports to watch in the Olympics, and what are your favorite winter sports to watch in the Olympics? And those of you who do not like watching any Olympics, would you tell me why? Now I know the next summer games in 2012 are in London, England. But where are the winter games in 2010 going to be? | | | | | |

| | 2010: Vancouver, Canada. I like both as I have interest in summer and winter sports. For summer I like swimming, diving, and gymnastics. For winter I like figure skating and ski jumping. That's just what I like best, I watch some other events, too. Location really doesn't matter to me. It's the athletes who are important. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for the info on the winter location in 2010! I was trying to remember, but was coming up with nothing. It is the same for me location wise. I don't care where it is, I just get interested in the stories of the athletes. I really like the same sports you listed. I also like seeing the bobsled races at the winter Olympics. I just read that Afghanistan got its first Olympic medal. The guy won a bronze, and the president of the country is giving him a house at the government's expense, and a communication company there is giving him $10,000. It almost makes me want to cry. I think we take it for granted that all the athletes in our respective countries (major countries that is) have these opportunities. But this guy who won a bronze is now a national hero in his country. I'm so happy for them. | | | |

| | Wow, good for him. Yes, winning at the Olympics can be extremely life-changing for some of the athletes. It's interesting to see the emotions that come up when the underdog happens to win. Of course, our athletes get rewards, too. Michael Phelps got $1,000,000 for winning his 8th medal. Not from the government but from his sponsor. It's peanuts compared to how much money he will be making (and the sponsor will be making) because of him winning so many medals. | | | |

| | I think it is cool that he is making money, because when his swimming career is over, he will still be young. So he can't count on swimming being there forever. This will allow him to save for the future, when maybe he takes a job coaching swimming. A lot of swimmer's careers are over after thirty, although Jason Lezak and Dara Torres of the U.S. are exceptions. | | | |

| | 2010 will be Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA! i dont watch olympics except for figure skating in the winter ones...but thats all...i hate those sports they are all plain boring, plus everyone cheats with drugs and judges beeing biased...why would i want to watch that? Figure skating is still an unfair world, i always root for the underdog so i dont watch them to see my loved ones win, i watch them because its a mix of art and sports and i love arts... | | | | | | |

| | Well, drug tests are stronger than ever. I was watching track and field last night and they were introducing athletes who had just come back from a suspension. They were banned for a couple years, and they had been clean since then, so they could compete. It is getting harder and harder to cheat, although I'm sure they don't catch all of them. I tend to root for the underdog. Especially the little countries who only have a few athletes in the games. | | | |

| | I really don't know where the 2010 Winter Olympics will be but being from the UK know all about them being here in 2012. I personally would rather the money be spent on something else but I have been watching and I think I prefer Summer Olympics. Ellie :D | | | | | | |

| | I'm not into the Olympics in a big way but I do like the Equestrian Sports, water ballet and gymnastics. Considering these activities are all-rounders they would fit in wherever and whenever the Olympics were held. HUGZ from Kitten1954 | | | | | | |

| | I don't really follow either olympics but when I do watch it is the summer one. I like watching the swimming, volleyball and gymnastics. I don't watch the winter ones at all. I don't really get into any of the winter sports. | | | | | | |

| | I prefer the winter Olympics. The skating is my favorite to watch. In the summer its the gymnastics. I really got into the ice skating. Its so beautiful to watch. Same for the gymnastics. I guess I am in awe of their grace because I am so clumsy, lol. I'm also afraid of heights so seeing those gymnasts do those high flying routines just amazes me. | | | | | | |

| | The balance beam is the thing I know I'd fail on. It's a good thing the gymnasts are so short. Can you imagine doing all that stuff on a balance beam if you're six feet tall? Heck, even being 5'7 would be hard! | | | |

| | It is a pity that I am always busy during the Olmpic games. In 2000, I was busy with college enterance examination. In 2004, I was busy with preparing the entrance exams for postgraduated school. In 2008, I was busy with applying to study aborad. I missed the deatails, however. I will also be exciting to know the Olympic gold result, which I get a message by my mobile. By the way, Michael Phelps did a pretty good work! He is awesome! | | | | | | |
