Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches... Yummy!!! Comfort food for sure! |
|
Last night, I wanted a snack before heading off to bed but didn't know what I wanted. So, I meandered into the kitchen to see what I could find. Once I saw the peanut butter jar, my mouth started watering!
Okay, that was it... peanut butter and jelly sandwich. My preference for jelly is apple, so that was what I ate. It was sooooooo good!!! Comfort food, maybe?
Are peanut butter and jelly sandwiches one of your comfort foods? When was the last time you had one? What kind of jelly do you prefer on them?

1. everlasting (9961) | 1 year ago | For me, it is coconut jam and guava or strawberry jelly on a buttered bread! That is so yummy! I love preparing this when I feel down and I am hungry. I do love it with hot chocolate or coffee with lots of milk!

mentalward (4381) | 1 year ago | I've known people who eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches, but I've never tried it. I love bananas so, one of these days, I'll have a go at it. Some say toasted is best, others prefer fresh bread. I'll try both one of these days.
I have never heard of Nutella, so I had to look it up. It really sounds delicious! They're having a sweepstakes on their website, so I entered. I know I'll love it, too. Thanks so much for letting me know about it!
I use jams as well, especially strawberry jam. But the old PB&J is something from my childhood and eating them just brings back memories of the 'good old days' when life was easy and all you had to worry about what you were going to do that day. Ah, childhood!

mentalward (4381) | 1 year ago | I'm definitely giving that a try later today. It DOES sound yummy! I don't have bananas at the moment, but I'm going to the store later, anyway, so I'll pick some up. I have the peanut butter and mayo, so I'll be good to go once I get the bananas. I'll let you know what I think about them.
Thanks so much for sharing!

mentalward (4381) | 1 year ago | Hi Diane,
I'm dieting, too, so I'm very careful about the amount of jelly AND peanut butter that I put on my sandwiches. Sometimes, I'll have only half a sandwich and that fills me up just fine. Oh, and I didn't go directly to bed afterwards, either. I started straightening up my office after the sandwich, then watched TV for awhile.
I don't know what I've been doing differently lately, but I've dropped another 2 pounds really fast! I think my metabolism is finally working more efficiently. So, I treated myself last night. Well, my dogs helped, too. They LOVE peanut butter, so I scooped some from my sandwich with my finger and let them lick it off (the spoiled rotten brats!).
I don't think I could handle not eating after 5 p.m. I usually eat very lightly after that time, but I do eat. (Last night was a treat.) Maybe it's because my sleeping pattern is all screwed up and I don't consider what I do at night as sleeping... I call it a long nap. "Mealtimes" are whenever I'm hungry, but I mostly just snack (healthy snacks, of course) throughout the day instead of sitting down to an entire meal.
Oh! I know why I dropped those 2 pounds fast! I cut the dosage of my Xanax in half. Once I learned about it causing memory problems, I wanted to see if I could handle just half the strength. I could and I am. That may have something to do with the faster weight loss because Xanax is an antidepressant and we all know what they do to us!!!

dianel (4592) | 1 year ago | Hi Marti How many mgs of xanax were you taking and are you taking now? Did you ask your doctor if you could do that? I take ativan which does not have those side effects yes it makes me tired but I am on 3 1 mg tabs a day one in the morning and two before bed for sleep. I have been on it for such a long time it would be impossible to take me off it honest. Good job on the weight, I wish mine would drop faster. I weighed 147 yesterday morning and this morning 150 so I dont know stupid scales is all I can say. I think I ate less yesterday than I did the day before. Who knows but at least im not gaining anymore
Diane

mentalward (4381) | 1 year ago | I was on 0.25 mg of Xanax once a day, so now I'm taking 0.125 mg a day. That sure doesn't sound like a lot! My doctor said it was okay to try it and see how I did. I felt a few little 'twinges' of withdrawal, but they're gone now and I still haven't had even the tiniest panic attack. I think I might have been a bit more depressed for a week or so, but now, I'M BACK!!!
I know that weight loss differs with everybody. It's partly our metabolism, but also genetics have a lot to do with it. I'm sure you didn't gain 3 pounds in one day! Yeah, these spring-type scales are never accurate. I weigh myself now at least 3 times a day to get an 'average' for the day.
I started my diet when I was 153 lbs. I'm now down to 134 and have stayed there for a couple of days now. Having weighed around 100 pounds most of my life, I still feel fat, but everyone is telling me how good I look and, at my age, I guess it's okay. I know that 100 lbs. was too skinny and I'd really love to be around 125, which I whooshed past the first time (it was the Paxil that did that). I'd settle for 130, but if my current weight is all I can get down to, that'll just have to be okay.
Maybe, if I stop eating PB&J sandwiches, I could get down to that! But I think it's better, emotionally and psychologically, to 'cheat' every now and then when dieting. Besides, if you lose weight too fast, your skin gets kinda flabby since it takes longer to shrink than fat does. I'm just giving my skin a chance to catch up every time I eat a PB&J sandwich! Sounds logical, doesn't it?

5. lilybug (15422) | 1 year ago | I rarely eat them, but when I do I always enjoy them. My son loves to get them in his lunch for school. I made him one this morning again. He even asked for one for a bedtime snack last night. I prefer strawberry jam and so does he.

mentalward (4381) | 1 year ago | Yeah, it was pretty nasty! It was so dry, we'd drink all our milk and ask for more! (Maybe that was why she did it!)
She was a mean one, she was! Corn flakes every day for breakfast, too. I got to hate them as well. I've eaten them since, but usually I stay away from them.

6. Barb42 (2713) | 1 year ago | I love peanut butter sandwiches!! I usually eat grape jelly with my peanut butter, if I put jelly on it. Sometimes I just make me a plain peanut butter sandwich. It is good, too! I think I made me a peanut butter sandwich one day last week. I would have had one yesterday for lunch if my husband hadn't been home.

mentalward (4381) | 1 year ago | I've had just peanut butter on crackers, but if you look at the response above yours, you'll know why I don't like just plain peanut butter on bread.
When my mother made them for us, she'd always use grape jelly. I like that, too, but apple jelly is my all-time favorite. Maybe it's because I adore anything made from apples.

Barb42 (2713) | 1 year ago | Oh, I certainly understand why that would turn you against plain peanut butter on bread. Why people force kids to do something like this is beyond me. Don't they realize they may be setting a precedent for the rest of that child's life? As for the crackers and peanut butter, we love them, too. I buy those packs of peanut butter and crackers, and I can sit and eat a whole pack. When I do eat peanut butter plain on bread, I do like to have a glass of milk to wash it down!!

8. Ldyjarhead (5167) | 1 year ago | I love my PB&J! Its funny, because as a kid PB&J wasn't a staple, but peanut butter and marshmallow was (fluffernutter!).
As I grew up and joined the Marine Corps and left New England, I realized that PB&J was the norm elsewhere, and you couldn't always find marshmallow in a jar in other parts of the country.
I love PB&J now and often have it on toast, as I did for breakfast this morning. Sometimes I'll make PB&J for lunch or a quick snack, like you did.
