If you're a Christian, do you feel bad for not reading the Bible? |
|
Some people say it's allegorical, others say it's just a collection of fairy tales, some people don't believe in every word that the Bible states, while others say it's the most boring book ever - with no pictures and has some unusual words and grammatical forms that are completely unacceptable in their part.
I'm a believer (you can call me Christian if you want) but I'm not sure if the things mentioned above are true. Although I agree that the Bible has no pictures and I also think that some parts in the Bible are allegorical due to different interpretations made through the years.
But there's one thing I won't agree about - that the Bible is the most boring book ever.
For me, it's not boring at all; I'm loving every chapter of it. Now I'm not promoting the Bible to you (whether you're a believer or an atheist) but I think it's one of the greatest book ever written. It's an everlasting source of love, hope, and courage.
The book itself is considered, specifically for Christians, as the greatest remembrance of God for men. However, I know that a lot of Christians out there are not paying special attention to this book. Some may have read it but only half-finished, and some won't even bother reading the rest of the Old Testament or the New Testament. They prefer to spend time reading and collecting Harry Potter books, various kinds of magazines, tutorials on how-to-draw anime, etc.
Now, the question is... WHY? If you're a Christian, do you feel sorry for not reading the Bible?

161. meander (122) | 8 months ago | I consider myself a Christian altho I never go to church.I was hualed off to Sunday school from the age of 5. I think I left at age 13. Almost Every Sunday it would be to a different church in our town. When we had done them all, we started all over again. Around and around I went. I own a Bible but have never read it. I also own a beaufully bound copy of the Koran (as a gift). I've never read it. I have a big book from the Mormons. I've never read that either. I have had literature from the Jehovah's & others which were never read. I certainly do not feel guilty for not reading the Bible. That has never entered my mind. Anyway why say sorry when you could have said guilty. In any case I feel neither. I travel to Europe and to the Middle East, at least once a year. Twice if I can afford it. I never fail to visit as many churches Mosques and other religous sites as I can. No. I've not read the Bible I certainly do not feel sorry for not having time nor inclination to do so.

162. islandrose (444) | 8 months ago | I will feel bad if I will not read the Bible, because the lives and relationships of people ahead of us were written for us to mirror ourselves to it and decide whether we will follow what pleased God or do the opposite. Reading the Bible and put yourself into it can help you a lot to know where you are standing by now.

So reading it daily may dirrect person who read it wise and humble. But the other important matter is we live in belief and see the prove later. That is called faith.

167. sharksfin (402) | 8 months ago | I am a Christian myself. I believe that it is very important to read the Bible daily as it is the source of all GODLY knowledge and wisdom. It guides us through our life and all our decision making.
I don't get to read it everyday like I used to. Of course, I feel bad that it is the case but I don't want to keep feeling bad because I know that the Holy Spirit will lead me to reading it. I don't want to rely on human effort alone anymore. Knowing that it is necessary to read it everyday is different from reading it because there is an urge from the heart.

170. darkangel079 (967) | 7 months ago | I can only say this about the Bible. It is blunt at what it says, it does live to its meaning when it says it didn't come from man's own interpretation.
What us humans accept, tolerate and believe in most of the time is forbidden in the Bible. Yet for many years people battle, argue and debate why such a book forbids certain things -- It only leaves them babbling and fighting with God. I have to say on my part that I do reject and dis like the claims made in the Bible. I do admit I sin. I used to be a Christian then, but realize I myself slip into darkness more times than wanting to do what is right spiritually.
Most people who consider it a fairy tale, fake or boring only realizes they make the fool on themselves since the book speaks about such people. What people should realize is that the Bible is spiritually discerned and has nothing to do with the world's wisdom or origin from a human's point of view. Those of the mind from the world is foreign to what is from the Spirit. The world considers the word of God, Spirit or even the Cross foolish in their eyes. And it claims that those who are perishing are those that find it foolish to even read or even live it.
Keep in mind how us humans do things...
It is not in our nature to love someone who has treated us wrong or hate us... It is not in our nature to forgive someone who has done us wrong... It is not in our nature to love one another and to lay our life down for our own people just like what Christ Jesus did for the whole world... It's our nature that we go by what people say or base our life or morals in matters of opinion, but the Bible speaks more blunt and dares to speak of what is fact.
So this coming from a former Christian all I have to say is for those that continue to dis believe or mock the Bible, doesn't make any difference since the word itself remains true to its statement and it speaks of me and the rest of the whole world.
