If you're a Christian, do you feel bad for not reading the Bible? |
|
Some people say it's allegorical, others say it's just a collection of fairy tales, some people don't believe in every word that the Bible states, while others say it's the most boring book ever - with no pictures and has some unusual words and grammatical forms that are completely unacceptable in their part.
I'm a believer (you can call me Christian if you want) but I'm not sure if the things mentioned above are true. Although I agree that the Bible has no pictures and I also think that some parts in the Bible are allegorical due to different interpretations made through the years.
But there's one thing I won't agree about - that the Bible is the most boring book ever.
For me, it's not boring at all; I'm loving every chapter of it. Now I'm not promoting the Bible to you (whether you're a believer or an atheist) but I think it's one of the greatest book ever written. It's an everlasting source of love, hope, and courage.
The book itself is considered, specifically for Christians, as the greatest remembrance of God for men. However, I know that a lot of Christians out there are not paying special attention to this book. Some may have read it but only half-finished, and some won't even bother reading the rest of the Old Testament or the New Testament. They prefer to spend time reading and collecting Harry Potter books, various kinds of magazines, tutorials on how-to-draw anime, etc.
Now, the question is... WHY? If you're a Christian, do you feel sorry for not reading the Bible?

| 21. Shino03 (10) | 1 year ago | Yes, I feel bad for not reading the bible but I'm not saying that I don't believe in Jesus Christ in fact although I'm not reading it, I read proverbs from the bibles and I like them ( usually in bookmarks ). I also read books which are connected or derived from the bible like "I love you" which is a really nice one. For me, as long as you have faith in him, you will not need material things like books to know him but I'm not encouraging you to not read the bible because it is true that it is the greatest remembrance of God what I just like to point out is that it is better to pray every night,to go the mass every sunday and to have faith and trust to him everyday than just reading the bible without learning anything from it.

22. Pose123 (5830) | 1 year ago | Hi ronreyes, I have been reading the Bible for almost sixty years and continue to read it, although now I spend more time studying the teachings of Jesus in the four Gospels than I do anywhere else. It is certainly not a boring book, rather it is one of the most interesting books I've ever read. I do not take it literally, as I feel that much of it especially in the old testament is stories that were handed now by word of mouth for hundreds, sometimes thousands of years before being written down. Much of the old testament shows an often cruel and very revengeful God, not at all like the loving father That Jesus depicts. There is however some that is good in the old testament, I especially like the Psalms. I believe that the book of Revelation should never have been included in the Bible because even the best Biblical scholars can't understand it. I am also concerned about some of the letters of Paul in the New Testament, as the teachings are so unlike the teachings of Christ. Many scholars believe that those letters were actually written by three different people. I find it difficult to understand how anyone can profess to being a Christian and not read the Bible, after all it is the book upon which Christianity is based. There may be many mistakes and there might have been many revisions, but we should read it and determine for ourselves. Blessings.

| 23. jrdnron (50) | 1 year ago | the question you have to consider is that if the authors of the bible are credible enough..i have read that the bible was stipulated by different high ranking people from politics and the church in the council of nicea around 325 AD..emperor constantine was a pagan and he encountered a political turmoil due to the social uprising of christian commoners..constantine had to make christianity the official religion of the country to pacify the revolts. and so a meeting was called to order (the council of nicea) to agree upon what the official book the christians must contain (the exodus, the life story of Christ etc). the bible did not come directly from heaven..it is man-made..

24. Celanith (1854) | 1 year ago | Reading the Word of God, the inspired word of God, the instruction book for humanity and how we should conduct ourselves, our lives daily is a book of many depths, levels and is a book of romance, mystery, adventure, education, entertainement, beauty, poetry it covers all genre's of life and living. If people read this book and asked and prayed to God to help them understand it and applied its principles, teachings, truths. We would have a much better world than we live in now. However most "Christians" rarely read this book they claim to uphold and obey. They do not obey it, they make excuses why they should not obey it. They let men tell them what it says rather than reading it for itself. The think a college theologian has more understanding than they do. This book has a primary author it is God the word, Jesus Christ and if you turned to HIM and prayed to his Father for understanding we would not need anyone else to teach us. But mankind is all to willing to follow the teachings, traditions and doctrines of men rather than the word of God. We go after strange gods and embrace the pagan traditons and customs and call them Chrisitan holidays. We do NOT remember his SABBATH day the ONLY one he set aside, kept, sanctified and hallowed. We make excuses for that too. We say we keep his commandments but we don't keep the 4th one or most don't. Christ said if we break one we break them all. We say well they were the laws of Moses. But who GAVE those laws and if anyone really undertood they were given at creation. I read my bible and I learn new things from it all the time. Things I over looked before. I pray to God to have the Holy Spirit lead and guide me and I do not follow after men and their teachings, they can be and often are wrong. We have a savior a teacher, a high priest and he hears us. We have someone to show us what his word says if we just ASK.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Regarding the Sabbath day, do you think God is telling us that we should go to church?

|
kenzie45230 (2467) | 1 year ago | Well, Paul says in Hebrews 10:25, "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." To me, being a Christian is about relationships - with God, with other believers and with the rest of the world. We're supposed to meet together to study, to worship, to fellowship. It's difficult to be a Christian alone.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | "It's difficult to be a Christian alone."
Sorry to say but I disagree. I think God would appreciate the way we serve him regardless on how we do it.

| 25. resurrection04 (95) | 1 year ago | actually i also reading bible..but i did not finish yet reading it..hmm.. revelation 1:3.. try to read that verse..actually majority of the people in the earth don't even believe the existence of the bible..how special is that book..i believe with all my heart..that the bible is an exact science..it contains all of the prophecy that may happen in the near future..but we're not cannot predict what will happen to us..only the creator of the world who can predict..there's a lot written in the bible that is true..i love reading bible..but some other just playing the bible..using it for making some rolling paper for their weeds..they use it just for a case of gun..etc..that's all i can say for now..but all i can say is i believe in the bible..it contains the whole truth..prophecies that may come to the near future..i believe in judgement days..do you believe in that??if your reading the bible..

| |
|
|
ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Yes, I do believe in this thing called Judgment.
| |
|
|
nanajanet (2668) | 1 year ago | I personally believe that there is no judgment day. This is my own belief but I feel that all of our time(s) on earth are meant to be lessons, that we are to learn from being all types of persons, male/female, all religions, good/bad, rich/poor, all races, etc.
I also believe that before we are born that we decide, with God, our angels and spirit guides, what our life's plan will be, what challenges we will face in order to have our soul grow. Our guides, while we are here on earth, are our "voices" or "instincts" that help to try and keep us on track.
Our free will is part of our life, before we come here, and over here. We may have planned the things in life but that does not mean we will stick to it 100%.
Again, this is my belief and it makes more sense to me than being judged by an all-loving being. If God is the parent, he teaches us lessons, but is smart and let's us fly on our own and use what we have learned to experience both the good and bad in life. He is always there to bring us back into the fold with unconditional love.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | So you think the Judgment Day is just part of the "Hell Feature" that was added in the Bible, just as what you have said in my previous discussion?

27. nanajanet (2668) | 1 year ago | Because God gave us free will and that means he wants us to do it the way we feel is best. Reading the bible teaches me nothing more than I already know. I know that I should not lie, cheat, steal, kill or harm others in any way.
I pray to God in my own time, in my own way and live my life the way I feel He wants me to live it. I learned all about the Bible in 12 years of Catholic school. I cannot quote all of it but remember much of it.
It's good to learn all about God's entire world and not just about Christian beliefs. All people are God's children, no matter what they believe or how they believe it. All religions feel they are the true one. As long as they live a good life, that's all that needs to be done.
:D

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | I agree. I really love what this Mylotter had said in his response in one of my previous discussions.
He stated that all religions are like rivers pointing to the Creator.

29. Shar19 (2794) | 1 year ago | For me sometimes I feel sorry or guilty for not reading the bible. I don't let it get to me though. I went to church all through my childhood years and try to go when I can with my husband and kids (not as much as I should I'm sure). I believe that as long as you try to live your life the best way that you know God would want you to then you shouldn't feel guilty about not reading the bible (or going to church enough). He loves us all no matter what.

30. samtaylorskykierajen (5847) | 1 year ago | I have felt that I should read the bible and did start to read it as a child . I did find some of interesting and fascinating but I didn't believe all that I read because even though that was my religion I don't share all the same beliefs . Many have tried to make me feel bad about this and the fact that I don't go to church but I beleive that God loves us for who we are and not for if we read a bible or if we go to church . As long as we believe in him and try to do the best we can each and everyday then I feel this is more important then if one reads the bible but then does the opposite of what the bible teaches .

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | I agree. I do believe that God sees us by who we really are and not by the materialistic things we do for Him.
