If you're a Christian, do you feel bad for not reading the Bible? |
|
Some people say it's allegorical, others say it's just a collection of fairy tales, some people don't believe in every word that the Bible states, while others say it's the most boring book ever - with no pictures and has some unusual words and grammatical forms that are completely unacceptable in their part.
I'm a believer (you can call me Christian if you want) but I'm not sure if the things mentioned above are true. Although I agree that the Bible has no pictures and I also think that some parts in the Bible are allegorical due to different interpretations made through the years.
But there's one thing I won't agree about - that the Bible is the most boring book ever.
For me, it's not boring at all; I'm loving every chapter of it. Now I'm not promoting the Bible to you (whether you're a believer or an atheist) but I think it's one of the greatest book ever written. It's an everlasting source of love, hope, and courage.
The book itself is considered, specifically for Christians, as the greatest remembrance of God for men. However, I know that a lot of Christians out there are not paying special attention to this book. Some may have read it but only half-finished, and some won't even bother reading the rest of the Old Testament or the New Testament. They prefer to spend time reading and collecting Harry Potter books, various kinds of magazines, tutorials on how-to-draw anime, etc.
Now, the question is... WHY? If you're a Christian, do you feel sorry for not reading the Bible?

32. narvzgarrison (201) | 1 year ago | Claiming yourself as a christian doesnt require to read the bible i think. Your belief to God and your good deeds to everyone are some of the things that a true christian would do. I believe there are people out there who are christian and who dont know how to read the book but they hear stories about God. They were not able to read the bible and they dont feel sorry for it because they know in their heart alone that they are still the son/daughter of God.Reading the bible can enhance your knowledge about God and you can find all the answers to your questions that you might have in mind that you want to ask to other christian but somebody who were not able to read even one context in the bible should not feelso guilty or sorry coz God dont make it mandatory for everyone to read the bible to become the true good christian. But im not saying that i dont read the bible myself.I do read the bible sometimes and it is just one's prerogative to do it or not.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | I agree. It's everyone's choice whether he/she will read the Bible or not. But one thing's for sure though - that the Bible is always open for them. I guess all books are... except the National Treasure Book of Secrets. LOL

33. revellanotvanella (1946) | 1 year ago | To me I do feel like it is a very valuable book but I read the Bible as a child because it was such a different book and thats how it kept my attention. i kind of read it in secret because I did not know what christianity was and it did have me kind of scared but I liked how I could read the New Testament like a book. The storys were interestesting to me except Levitcus and Judges, way too technical. These stories stuck with me to this day and they are constantly coming back to my head even now and I have not read the Bible since I was 17. I do want to go back and read the New Testament just to see how its different now that Im older but Im not gonna put too much expectation on how much sense it makes because now I lean toward Spirituality and teaches that their is only love and fear (so true to Jesus message, so valuable) and because of that their is much lessons to be offered in the Bible.

34. aisaellis22 (3530) | 1 year ago | I'm a christian but i don't feel bad for not reading the bible. For me, I think all what God wants is for us to be a good person. I do believe that if you did not do nothing to others, follow the 10 commandments, and do good to others and be successful. It's not a sin because you did not read the bible, but it's a sin to hurt other people, kill people, steal and many more. Lots of people read the bible but still they committed a mistake, it is because no one is perfect, all of us are entitle to do mistake, all we have to do is ask God for guidance and forgiveness so that God will guide us in our actions. I hope i did not offend anyone. happy mylotting!

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | UK is a Catholic country right. Although I heard that a lot of people in UK are recently turning into atheists. I don't really know the reason behind this. Perhaps you can provide me with an answer.
And what's the reaction of your family knowing that you chose to be a Pagan?

tamarafireheart (12636) | 1 year ago | Hi ronreyes,
U.K is not really a catholic county although there are quite of lot of them here but is really a Church Of England, but family are catholics. When I became a Pagan they asked a of questions and they do understand why becasue I love nature and everything round me and the Moon is my Godess, don't get me wrong I do believe in God, but there is lot more to being a Pagan and my family has got used to it, even my nephew has read up on it and he does understand so I have no problems. Bless.

37. Mirita (1615) | 1 year ago | I have read the new testament, and the bible really teaches us to make the right choices, and if we follow these teachings, our lives are full of blessings. I have tried to follow the teachings of my lord Jesus Christ, and this is why everything goes well in my life. To me, is the best book ever written, and it really teaches us right from wrong as long as you can interpret everything without becoming a fanatic.

38. slickcut (6010) | 1 year ago | I do not read my Bible as much as i should and yes i do feel bad for not reading it..I have read the Bible from cover to cover several times & i know the scripure very well and can quote scripture but i don't really know where the scripures are located...I do believe in what the Bible says,it is the inspired word of God writtem by Jesus's disciples...The Bible has beautiful love stories, and wonderful parables, and it is certainly NOT boring..I am a grown up so i do not need pictures...I have spent most of my life in church & to me the Bible has been my guide post for living...The old testiment is really some things that people feel is cruel but what they don't understand is that the Old testiment was fullfilled when Jesus died upon the cross and when he did we no longer have to live by the rules of the old testiment.Thats when the new testiment came to be ..We now live under the GRACE dispensation & the old testiment is a record of the old days of the law...I am glad that we no longer live under the law but we live in the day of Grace...People who do not love the Bible is the ones who do not understand it...

39. GemmaR (1277) | 1 year ago | I will admit that I do like to read the bible every now and again, but I know that it isn't the end of the world if I don't read it one day. I know that I am still a good person because I am kind to people and do a lot of charity work, so I know that I don't have to read the bible to be a good person, it's just good for a read, to read about God.

40. overwings (3639) | 1 year ago | I think that once I fisnished school where it was kind of compulsory reading and analizing the meaning of some fragments of the bible, I never had it again in my hands and I don't feel sorry at all for it. It was enoguh to get a general idea of the holy story and to understand art. That's by the way where you can find the pictures. In any museum, in any church.
