Some people say it's allegorical, others say it's just a collection of fairy tales, some people don't believe in every word that the Bible states, while others say it's the most boring book ever - with no pictures and has some unusual words and grammatical forms that are completely unacceptable in their part.

I'm a believer (you can call me Christian if you want) but I'm not sure if the things mentioned above are true. Although I agree that the Bible has no pictures and I also think that some parts in the Bible are allegorical due to different interpretations made through the years.

But there's one thing I won't agree about - that the Bible is the most boring book ever.

For me, it's not boring at all; I'm loving every chapter of it. Now I'm not promoting the Bible to you (whether you're a believer or an atheist) but I think it's one of the greatest book ever written. It's an everlasting source of love, hope, and courage.

The book itself is considered, specifically for Christians, as the greatest remembrance of God for men. However, I know that a lot of Christians out there are not paying special attention to this book. Some may have read it but only half-finished, and some won't even bother reading the rest of the Old Testament or the New Testament. They prefer to spend time reading and collecting Harry Potter books, various kinds of magazines, tutorials on how-to-draw anime, etc.

Now, the question is... WHY?
If you're a Christian, do you feel sorry for not reading the Bible?

I do not feel guilty for not reading it as much as I should, because that is not the point. You need to feel remorse, or repentance and change your ways. That does some good. Feeling bad or guilty is not productive in and of itself.I have read the Bible through more than once. You can get Bibles with pictures. You can get modern language translations. The Bible should be interesting to all as it is a picture of life. There is good, and evil, love and lust, anger, forgiveness, witchcraft, murder, revenge. All that is in the earth is in the Bible. It is a gift that helps us see the heart of God. This is a good discussion. The truths represented in the Bible are true. Very little of it is literature or allegory, if any. A statement like that will probably earn me some negative ratings from some on here, it has before.

no I do not feel sorry it is a choice, like everything in life is a choice, some get great inspiration and strength from reading the bible, some get nothing at all.

Hi ronreyes,

I have read the Bible and I love it but I also didn't finish it..Been a while I didn't open it anymore, lack of time is not the reason...I am not just giving time for it and why? I do know...just didn't prioritize it this time!
ANyway, I don't feel bad for not reading it..I feel bad if I will be doign bad things to any human being created by GOD!
The application of those words and passages as well as living with the word of GOD is the most important thing...SO, if I can obey HIS will and share my life to others for the people to see GOD with what I say, do and think, then I Will say I that I am very proud to be a Christian!

Hello my dear friend ronreyes Ji,
Such compulsions only make people re-think about religion. Let them read or not, they can not be de-barred from christianity after they were born. It is common to all religion. I do not read everyday my religious books, but I do remember my Almighty every second. Nothing should forced upon. have a nice time. thumbup

I don't understand any Christian not reading the Bible. It's God's instruction manual for us and His love letter to us. It's the best way to get to know God, to understand. And when one does have a regular - daily - time reading God's word, we start to hunger for more and more.

I love knowing from the Psalms that it's okay to be upset with God sometimes. The Psalms show us that the writers were upset and told God that, but always ended up in praise.

I love the wisdom of Solomon. What excellent life lessons, timeless lessons we can learn.

I love reading about God's promises to us and about the ministry of Jesus. I love understanding that each one of us is uniquely created and has God given gifts that are supposed to be used in service to Him.

Perhaps it helps that I developed the habit of daily Bible reading when I was just a child. I read the entire Bible 3 times by the time I was in high school - the King James version - and I actually think I understood it more as a kid than I sometimes do as an adult. But that doesn't mean I stop reading. happy It means that I understand why Jesus said we must become like children. They're minds are so much more open to learning and instruction. I think if you asked this question of most Christian children, they would feel badly if they weren't reading God's word regularly. It's sad that adults don't also feel that way.

Of course we don't HAVE to read the Bible to be a Christian. But we should WANT to read it. If we love a human, we want to be near him/her, we want to talk to him/her, we want to share everything with him/her. I wonder why it is not the same with loving God. It should be. If we love Him, we should want to spend time with Him, read His word to get to know Him better, worship Him, share Him with the world.

Yes, I'm an avid reader and the one book of all time that I should have read is the bible. However, I have not been able to get thru the whole thing for many of the reasons you state. I guess reading a page a day would be a good idea...

No I don't feel sorry for not reading the Bible because I read it daily...morning and at night. It is the most important part of my day. God's Word is what keeps us in peace no matter what's going on around us. We know how to stand and pray for changes in our lives instead of resulting to a gun, cursing, or beating others down. Everything we'll ever need is in God's Word, but we'll never know the answer to the problem if we never seek God through His Word.

For me it's not about reading the bible it's understanding it's lessons for us. If we understand what the Bible says then maybe we don't need to read it over and over again. I mean it would be better to understand what it says than reading it without understanding right? Living what the Bible teaches is actually what I think we should do after understanding what we have read from it. happy
