If you're a Christian, do you feel bad for not reading the Bible? email this discussion to a friend?

Some people say it's allegorical, others say it's just a collection of fairy tales, some people don't believe in every word that the Bible states, while others say it's the most boring book ever - with no pictures and has some unusual words and grammatical forms that are completely unacceptable in their part.

I'm a believer (you can call me Christian if you want) but I'm not sure if the things mentioned above are true. Although I agree that the Bible has no pictures and I also think that some parts in the Bible are allegorical due to different interpretations made through the years.

But there's one thing I won't agree about - that the Bible is the most boring book ever.

For me, it's not boring at all; I'm loving every chapter of it. Now I'm not promoting the Bible to you (whether you're a believer or an atheist) but I think it's one of the greatest book ever written. It's an everlasting source of love, hope, and courage.

The book itself is considered, specifically for Christians, as the greatest remembrance of God for men. However, I know that a lot of Christians out there are not paying special attention to this book. Some may have read it but only half-finished, and some won't even bother reading the rest of the Old Testament or the New Testament. They prefer to spend time reading and collecting Harry Potter books, various kinds of magazines, tutorials on how-to-draw anime, etc.

Now, the question is... WHY?
If you're a Christian, do you feel sorry for not reading the Bible?

I think the question could also be- would you feel bad about not reading the manual for a very expensive car or equipment? Would you fail to read it because there are no pictures, or because you think it is boring? What will be the likely results of operating the car, or equipment without first consulting the manufacturers manual? If you are not sure who the manufacturer is, then you would have a problem trusting the manual.
Many persons are very careful about the car they choose to buy. They then take extra special care with that car. Should we be any less concerned about the precious gift of life? I think it is important to give the Bible more than a passing glance.

As a Christian, I believe everyone should read the Bible. Even if you don't agree with, or believe all, you will be armed with the knowledge to Love it, debate it, beleive it, cherish it or however you want to use it. Knowledge is power, how can you dislike or not believe in something if you haven't even read it.
That's like saying you hate Mexican food but never tasted it...
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

There are so many factors on why people tend to hate something. Perhaps it's brought by negative reviews or influence of family and friends.

Your response (ronreyes, just highlights my feelings about people today. I am not her to judge, but from what I observe on a daily basis it seems that people do not want to take responsibility for their own lives even when it comes to religion.

We have to as people who want to grow in life and religion learn to make our own choices and take the blame for the ones that are poor. What you have suggested is that we can blam others and not follow God because someone else misled you.

God stated there will be many false prophets that will mislead you. People need to put on their wholly armor and be prepared to stick with the word. I don't believe that other religions go to hell but I do believe in 1John 4:4-6.

I am a follower of Christ and I believe the Bible is God's Word. I try to read the Bible every day and study it often. There are some days I get too busy and fail to read when I could have if I had made the time. On those days, I do feel sorry, because I have allowed myself to miss out on a wonderful opportunity. I feel I take it for granted being able to read and study the Bible sometimes, because a lot of people in other countries don't have access to that opportunity. It is a precious right both to have easy access to the Bible and to be able to read it freely.

It's good to know that you read it with understanding. The Bible, or perhaps any other book, needs everyone's understanding in order to be appreciated.

of course yes. because i love the Lord with all heart that's why i love to spend time with his love letter written for me. whenever, i failed to read my bible and meditate God's word, my days are full of chaos and confusion...there's no sense of direction and blessings from Heavenly Father.

by the way, if you don't mind...what is your denomination? thank you

Like I said, I'm a believer. You can label me as a Christian but I don't want to be part of any denomination.

I believe the Bible to be God's instruction manual for the believer (which I am). I believe that everything I need to know to get me through my time here on earth victoriously is in the Bible and it is the truth of God's word and His love for us. I do not feel sorry that I don't read the bible. I can't read for very long periods of time and I really get more out of hearing it. I have read a lot of it and I have also listened to an entire CD set of the New Living Translation. I get most of my teaching on CDs from my church and other ministries. It says in the Bible that "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God". I believe that what I put in my heart is what will come out, whether I am looking at it or listening to it. Be Blessed!

Being a Christian and reading the Bible go hand in hand. If you want to improve your walk with God and learn to understand his will then you need the instructions. You can go it alone but that's too exhausting and the devil will attack you at your weakest point. Feeling sorry for not reading the Bible is called conviction, I don't feel bad when I don't read the bible, only when I half do what God wants me to because I think I can do some of it and he'll do the rest.

I certainly don't feel guilty for not reading the Bible. Christianity is so much more than just studying the Bible. You can detect a 'good Christian' by the lifestyles and behaviors they practice in their everyday life.

myLot reputation of 86/100. ronreyes (609)   ranked 1,348 out of 38,434 in life  1 year ago

ConfusedW (17)   ranked 9,365 out of 38,434 in life  1 year ago

I think each person should schedule their reading according to his or her own circumstances, and not according to what others do. I believe only then can one benefit personally from such reading. In addition, I think God has not left us in doubt as to how, or when we should read the Bible, and the benefits we will gain. (Psalms 1:1-6)
I wonder though, does anyone feel that the information contained in the Bible has any relevance for our future, or is it just a historical, moral guide book?
