Expand the Powers of the V.P?

That's one thing that leaped out at me during tonight's V.P. debate; Sarah Palin would like the powers of the Vice Presidency to be expanded. Since we just coming off nearly eight years with Darth Vadar in that office, does anyone else find that a tad frightening? Annie

*raises my hand instantly* I'm beginning to wonder if she's Cheney's Mini-Me. There's been these curious little suggestions since her introduction that suggests she wants to continue the fundamentals of all that Cheney's been doing for all this time...at least, of the things we know the shady dude's done. Goddess only knows what else may've gone down that the public didn't catch whiff of.

OMG, "Cheney's Mini-Me" puts you very much in the running for BR! Annie

Aww, ^_^ It's just that she's not..as clever, I don't think as Cheney himself but she seems to hold alot of the core basics of him with herself. So I couldn't think of what else to call her but his "Mini-me" Too bad, in the movies, Darth Vader never had an apprentice...or else we'd have a really good nickname to call her already pre-prepared!

I found it very frightening, Annie. Is Palin planning to also take up residence in Cheney's bunker? lol I guess when McCain and Palin picked up the "change" mantra, this is the kind of thing that they meant. Although it wouldn't really be change since Bush/Cheney have been doing it for the last eight years and have gotten away with it; they would have to actually legally change the way the governmet is run. Or not. Republicans seem to be able to get around the law better than anything else they do. I've attached some links for you. Happy reading! http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0607/4679.html http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Cheney_tells_agency_that_Vice_Presidents_0621.html http://oversight.house.gov/story.asp?ID=1371

Thanks so much for your response and the links; I can't believe I took this long to get back to you! I'm sorry, it won't happen again. Annie

Give her an inch and she wants a yard. She survived one debate and is still hanging in there by the skin of her teeth and she wants to expand the powers of a job she may or may not get ( not, I hope). What's worse is her fans seem to think that she has proved herself beyond question by not making a fool of herself in one debate. How much more can they lower the bar for this woman?

I wish she were just in a limbo contest! That's how low the bar is. Annie

I'm not sure what to think anymore. I am leaning more towards Obama and Biden. They seem to be wanting to get us on the right track and do something for us.

Good point. Might I add, as opposed to McCain and Palin who seem to think we're onthe right track. They may talk a good game about "change" and "reform" but notice Palin didn't want to talk about what they'd do differently from the Bush Administration. That was pointing the finger back, or some such nonsense. Annie

I don't think there's anything wrong with the VP wanting more responsibilities. As of now they only have two responsibilities: Preside over a tie in the senate, and sit quietly waiting for the president to die. That's IT. She's a hard worker and a busy person who wants to do more than that. I can understand if you disagree with her on issues, but wouldn't you like the supposedly second most important person in the country to do more than that?

The V.P. does what the President wants him or her to do more or less but she didn't say she wanted to be more busy but that she wanted more "power". That's the part that bothers and really confuses me. Annie

I love what Biden said about Dyck. I actually laughed out loud. Then when she agreed with what Dyck has done I cringed and thought to myself that this is exactly what we don't need in this country. We don't need people in power thinking that they are above the law.

That's the "big picture" I'm afraid some people aren't seeing; we're finally going to get rid of a V.P. that really does think he's above the law and now we have another one trying to get his job that not only thinks he's done great (other than shooting someone in the face - she probably feels pretty smug about that since she's a better shot...lol!) - who wants MORE power. Some have said what they think she's referring to is that she'd like to actually sit in the "President's Chair" in the Senate and preside over their daily activities. In other words, who cares who's in the majority or who's Senate Majority Leader, the V.P. runs the Senate. Annie

My god, maybe I am mistaken! Maybe she does know how to hang with the big boys and already struck up a deal with someone in the Bush Administration already. She might just give old man McCain a nice kick out of his own campaign, lol I love the mini-me comment, thats soo funny. They could include Cheney and Sarah Palin in their own political paradoy and make it into a "Scary Movie" theme

Maybe we could co-write the screenplay? Wait a minute...you really can't make this stuff up...lol! Annie

This is not the only thing about her that scares me. But this is a big one. She is on the other side of most of the issues I support. She really wants to be President, doesn't she?

She sure does. People were making jokes about Obama having to watch his back if he'd chosen Hillary as his V.P. but I'm beginning to think it may be McCain that better watch HIS back with Palin...lol! annie

I find it very frightening. I was so glad to hear Biden identify Cheney as the most dangerous VP in American history and it wasn't lost on me that Palin wants to surpass that honor.
