Have you ever overcooked something in the microwave?

One time, I was warming up
pizza and used the wrong
setting and the pizza ended
up hard as a brick!
Totally inedible!
I had to throw it out to the
yard cats.
Have you ever overcooked something in
the microwave or cooked it too long
so that it dried out and was tasteless?

The only thing I've actually overcooked in the microwave was popcorn. I'm not sure how I really managed to do it, because I put the right setting on and everything and it still overcooked. It burned terribly, it was smoking and it smelled disgusting. I haven't tried to make popcorn in that microwave since. I'm not brave enough to try it again.

hi thats so easy to do I have one brandthat tells you to do this in seconds and that works and you are supposed to take it out if nothing pops in so many seconds. I waited just a few seconds too long and wow what a mess.

Yes, I have. That is really easy to do with items that are bread or made with something breadlike. Of course I have also overcooked on top of the stove, and inside the stove. I have even managed to overcook in a crockpot, resulting in an ugly mush.

Done that too!
That's why I never use the crockpot
to make rice. It always ends up a mushy mess.

I've never cooked something that dried out, but I did burn some chocolate that I tried to melt. I also over-nuked a cup of coffee once, and the dang thing turned into a coffee fountain. it bubbled over, and the entire inside of my microwave was covered in coffee.

Ohhh, many many times. My microwave is slightly broken so it has no display on it. You set the time, but you can't see how long you set it for. I habitually overpress the buttons thinking I'm putting something in for 1 minute and it turns out to be ten, or I put something in for 5 minutes and it turnes out to be almost an hour! I walk away and a little while later I realize the microwave hasn't stopped yet...snack destroyed.

Yes Ofcourse ! many a times and many a things, includng charring of popcorns to making a porridge instead of rice etc.Initially when we aquired the micro wave Oven, we had no idea about the quantity of food and the duration together with the intensity to get good results. And to add to our miseries we have lot of voltage fluctuations which totally disbalances your all presumptions about microw wave cooking! Now having had good experience I can now get nice dishes out of micro wave oven without much of fuss ! Thanks! It was a light and cheerful topic of discussion ! I enjoyed participating in it!

Hello beauty queen. Though quite a few families in China love to use microwaves, we have not bought one yet. We still prefer our traditional way of cooking over the stove in a wok. My friend left an oven, but I seldom use it as I don't see that I need to use it somehow. Maybe some day I will use it for baking if I am interested in learning how. . .

I burn popcorn a lot!
We really need a new microwave though. Ours is like 6 years old. It over-cooks half of something while leaving the other half cold. It is very irritating. I am just too cheap to spring for a new one while the thing still turns on! lol I know I should though.
I tend to over-heat breads a lot. They only need to be in there a couple of seconds but I forget and leave them in too long. I pull it out and as soon as it cools it is as hard as rock!

My microwave is fine for long time settings, but dreadful when it comes to setting it for short periods. It has a dial which isn't very sensitive. It's hard to heat a cup of milk for instance, as you have to put it on for a couple of minutes but remember to take it out after 30 seconds. I am forever forgetting and welding burnt milk to the bottom of the machine!

I tend to under cook it and then over cook it. Our microwave is messing up, we need a new one, but well, we are trying to find one with a handle we like. In any case, I'll set the microwave for say 30 seconds, and the pizza isn't done, so then i'll set it for another ten and it's over done! Ahh... I haven't done it where it was dried out though!

Not usually. I have a cool trick for reheating certain things in the microwave... put it in a ziplock bag. It seals in the moisture you would normally lose by microwaving it.

Unfortunately I have several times! My worst mistake was not setting the popcorn on the appropriate timing..... it not only ruins the popcorn but it makes the entire house terrible smelling. Would have to open the windows and pray that the smell gets out of the house before anyone else gets home. (Which that never happens!)

hi beauty queen oh yes I cooked a potato too long and it was so hard I couldnt eat it. so it ended up in the garbage. another time I cooked a burrito too long and could only eat the middle
of it as the ends were so hard I couldnt even bite into them
at all.I have a new oven so have to be even more careful to time things exactly.

yeah. and embarrassed as it may be, i almost always burn microwavable popcorn. then there are viands that have meat in them that ended up rock hard (even our dogs does not want to eat them). what else? soups that substantively diminished in quantity after being put into the microwave. the list goes on.

It's happened a few times. Either I misjudged the time on something that I generally don't microwave, or I was using a microwave that I wasn't used to.

I think the worse thing to overcook in the microwave is popcorn. It goes from just done to burnt in a few seconds. If you don't take it out the second it stops popping it is gone. Not only is it burnt but the whole house smells like burnt popcorn. I now stand near the microwave whenever popping popcorn to make sure it doesn't get burnt.
