Beware! This site is cloning myLot. Read this or else... |
|
Good News: myLot is an angel. Bad News: myLot has an evil, identical twin brother!
I just found this site called MYLOTANSWERS through the whois record of myLot: http://whois.domaintools.com/mylot.com
Mylotanswers is entirely, completely, and definitely a myLot clone! I don't know about you but I consider this one as a Phishing Site - a site that is designed to clone a legitimate site for the purpose of harvesting or collecting personal information such as usernames and passwords.
See for yourself (click the links below):
This is a link for the ORIGINAL mylot frontpage: http://www.mylot.com
This one is from mylotanswers (FAKE): http://www.mylotanswers.com
When you click the original, you'll probably see the member's frontpage since you're logged-in. But when you sign-out and visit the two domains, you'll notice that they're completely identical. Only the domains aren't the same.
I also tested it in myLot profiles: (You can also try this one with your own profile URL)
Example is my profile page (Original): http://www.mylot.com/ronreyes
And this one is mylotanswers': http://www.mylotanswers.com/ronreyes
Now you'll see a big difference because the one from mylotanswers has a "Page Cannot Be Found" warning.
Something smells fishy huh!?! Well it really fits since it is a phishing site.
And here's an addition to the smell. I also found out that the site called TRYMYLOT http://www.trymylot.com is basically doing the same thing. Personally, I think it's also affiliated with mylotanswers and was developed by the same punk who are trying to hack other people's accounts.
What shall we do now: 1.) Report it to the myLot police. Let's contact myLot and tell the administrators about this phishing activity. They'll be the one who will request this site to be taken down. 2.) Spread the news. Tell the people about this especially the ones that are under your referral (you can forward this discussion to them if you want). They should be aware.
Tips to avoid hacking in myLot: 3.) Strictly myLot. Before logging-in, make sure that you're in the right domain. Look at the address bar of your browser. Make sure that it's mylot.com, NOT mylotanswers.com, trymylot.com, or any other domains. 4.) Type it yourself. It's a good practice that everytime we sign-in to myLot, we should type the real myLot domain (www.mylot.com) by ourselves. As much as possible, avoid clicking a link from other sites or blogs that tells you to log-in using that particular link.
* You can also apply the same tips and process for your Paypal account, Adsense account, E-mail account(s), PTC account(s), Social Networking account(s), etc. This will help us avoid wasting our efforts and hardwork due to the fact that our innocent accounts was hacked by a no-life freak.
Anyway, this is just a friendly reminder. I really think I should post this one for the benefit of all members.

21. nannacroc (2354) | 1 year ago | Thank you for the warning. I usually type the correct address in but sometimes we all need reminders to be aware of the ways we can be conned on the internet. So many people think it is safe and don't take as much care as they would when in 'life' situations.

22. webeishere (12371) | 1 year ago | WHOAH! Freaky to say the least. I did mylotanswers only. It is a duplicate of mylot. I am reporting it to mylot admin right away as this is an infringement on copyrights. Unless this is also a mylot page. But it all has the same info as mylot. Including the same amount of members and guidelines etc. Hmmm? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | The first time I've encountered mylotanswers, I also assumed that perhaps this is owned by myLot. But when I explore the site and found out that the myLot profiles turns into a Page Cannot Be Found page, I became a bit skeptical. A lot of phishing sites usually duplicates the contents in the frontpage especially when the log-in script/ form is embedded to that specific page. Phishing sites don't really care much about the internal pages that are three or more distance away from the frontpage.

loxion (780) | 1 year ago | Thats exactly what happened to me yesterday, i loggedin and started a discussion and to my surprise it kept logging out after few minutes, at first i thought it was mylot's problem and later i clicked on "profile" at the top there and only to get "page cannot be found" error but i never suspected anything
But now i know that it was their site, but one thing which i still wonder is the fact that i never search for mylot on search engines, i just type in the mlot address on the address bar and i wonder how did they direct my mylot.com into their mylotanswers.com site.
I also sent a message to admin Webeishere and again opened that site with Internet Explorer and report it as a phishing site to microsoft.
I know those punks will be reading this and i do not care

adihindu (1193) | 1 year ago | How do you guys report a site as phishing site without proper confirmation. They are not the scam sites or phishing sites. They are just the alias of mylot. Please check it in response 41 and first response comments. Reporting a site as scam or phishind one will lead to loss of site reputation. Mylot will automatically sign of your account if you are inactive for a certain period and this was only entirely our security purpose. Normally you will find this in many banking sites and some other sites saying "Your session has expired". myLot.com, trymylot.com, mylotanswers.com are same sites. And these said two sites are maintained and owned by myLot only. Thank you GRANDPA BOB.

webeishere (12371) | 1 year ago | adihindu, if these sites are run by mylot why is it every time you try to move to another page you get the message? Every time I remind you. Not once in awhile, everytime. And what proff do you have they are run by mylot administration as well? I am curious about this.

adihindu (1193) | 1 year ago | Thank you grandpa. I had already submitted my proof for the same in the first response comment. Please check it once. And myLot team also confirmed the same in the response number 47. (Previously it was 41). Thank you.

23. creative_angel312 (304) | 1 year ago | Thanks a lot for warning us with this information. It is good to know. I think it's horrible that someone wants to ruin the quality of mylot by hacking into user accounts. I'll try and spread the word, and I'll make sure that I report these sites to the mylot police since the more complaints they get the faster things get done.

25. dawnald (9499) | 1 year ago | What else could it be but a phishing site. Maybe they're trying to find people who have the same password in PayPal as in myLot so they can steal from them. Scary. Thanks for noticing!

27. thedogshrink (685) | 1 year ago | I think mylotanswers.com is NOT a clone or phishing site, but just another similar site owned by the mylot people. IF you scroll down on the link you gave, you'll see both sites are registered by mylot LLC, with the same address and email contact. It's smart to check these out, as there are a LOT of phishing sites out there!

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Well phishers has the ability to imitate these things. Those are just HTML elements and can be easily configured. Perhaps mylotanswers is also using the same myLot script for its frontpage, that's why no matter how many times you refresh the two domains, you will still see the same contents.
