Would you drink tap water to save money? |
|
Would you be willing to drink or let your kids drink tap water in order to save money? Some people say they boil their water, but that would mean either electric or fuel consumption. Others buy mineral water by the gallons to consume at home. We also buy mineral water, we consume probably around 5-8 gallons a day. If you were looking for ways to save money, would this be something you would do? give up mineral water or boiling water and drink tap water instead?

walijo2008 (3712) | 1 year ago | Yeah, I think its stupid too, spending all that money on water that is supposedly better for you, I don't think there is anything wrong with drinking tap water, we do, our water is good, it tastes good, so many people are just scared of everything. You didn't hear anything about this 50 yrs. ago, theres alot of things they did back then, that would be considered not sanitary now, and they are still alive, nothing ever happened to them.

silverglint (1479) | 5 months ago | I don't think our tap water here is clean enough. I hear a lot of news about people getting sicknesses and tummy ache because of the water. I don't want to take risks with my young kids.

2. thebeaddoodler (2768) | 1 year ago | Can you get the water filters that just screw onto your faucet? Or a water filter pitcher? These options would be more feasible to me than boiling water. Most of these filters are fine enough to remove most harmful bacteria plus the "sludge" that might occur in your tap water. If you can't get those then I would boil water to conserve money. Yes it would take the energy to boil the water, but I think that would cost less than buying mineral water.
Of course I live in the US and situations differ greatly in other countries.

silverglint (1479) | 7 months ago | You are right, situations differ greatly in different countries. Most of the people I know drink mineral water. I guess its because amoebiasis is a common thing in our country.

silverglint (1479) | 7 months ago | Some people also use mineral water when they make soup. We are have 5 adults and 3 kids in the house so I guess we do have the tendency to consume a lot hehe. You are right, it still depends on where we live. I don't think people in my country trust our water system that much

4. unusualsuspect (2413) | 1 year ago | Where I live, in the United States, tap water is safe and cheap. Bottled water is used mostly by people who've been convinced that it's somehow safer or better than tap water. A lot of those people are now going back to tap water because bottled water is expensive and wasteful.

| ciasoon (11) | 1 year ago | Yes, I agree. Thankfully we have drinkable, tasty well water for our home. Bottled water, untainted is OK, if you can find it. The labels report additives and filterings that make me suspect of them altogether. So much depends on where you live.

silverglint (1479) | 5 months ago | I agree, it does depend on where you live. In our country, people try to drink mineral water as long as they can afford it. I think its a lot better to spend on water than on hospitalization caused by drinking tap water.

5. lightningMD (5658) | 1 year ago | We drink our tap water all the time. We have a brita water pitcher that we fill from the tap and keep in the fridge. I do buy bottled water for work though. I'm a lifeguard and it is very hot in our pool room.I do refill the empties a few times before throwing them away though.

7. breezie (991) | 1 year ago | We live in Ontario Canada and pretty much the only water we drink is tap water. Our water is safe here so we really see no need to spend money on bottled water when we can get it out of the tap for free. The only reason we would buy bottled water would be if we were going on a car trip, but even then we tend to use reusable water bottles and take tap water.
If our water wasn't safe to drink i would definitely buy bottled water, but since it is perfectly safe I see no reason.

9. ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | Hi Silverglint, I am very lucky in that I live in the UK and in the area I live in the water from the tap tastes better than a lot of bottled water and I and my children drink from the tap all the time. The only time I drink bottled water is when out but quite often I will fill small bottles from my own tap anyway before going out. Huggles. Ellie:D

silverglint (1479) | 4 months ago | That is good for you since you won't have to spend to buy safe drinking water like we have to. Those who do not have the budget for a safer option here in our place usually just take the risk of drinking from tap water.

10. deebomb (8989) | 1 year ago | I have always drank water from the tap. Here in the states most water from the tap is safe. I never was much of one for drinking mineral water. 5 to 8 gallons of water is a lot of water to buy every day. I do have a water filter Pitcher that I use sometimes. I only use bottled water when going away from home.
