Yesterday morning a hailstorm hit the sunny island of Malta and left places in the capital city Valletta with up to two feet of hail. The sheer quantity of hailstones left people in the area nonplussed and presented some real difficulties as people are unused to dealing with such quantities. I am attaching a photo of the hailstone. We never had such thing in my island.

That's what I was thinking to, bombshell I am from Romania, and except for about 5 cm of snow that fell about a month ago in the area where I'm living (the southern plain), only a few snow flakes fell yesterday... It's been snowing a bit in the mountains, but not at all the usual amount of snow... It is really unusual for such a high amount of hailstone to fall not only in Malta, buit anywhere in a temperate climate...

Are you sure it was a hailstorm and not a snowstorm?lol. That sure is alot of hail if it was, I've never seen that much before, we get them all the time where I live in the US, but never anything like that. The other night we had a big thunderstorm, and we had some hail, but it wasn't that much, just lasted a couple minutes. Do you think it may have something to do with Global Warming, we sure been having some strange weather in different places.

It was a hailstorm not a snowstorm but being not accustomed to such things I don;t make much differences between the two. :)

Wow, The weather has been strange lately that is for sure places that have never seen snow or haven't in over 15 years are seeing it this year and it is just all messed up. We were having 68 degree weather a few days ago when other years we would be knee deep in snow this time of the year. I hope no one was harmed by the hailstorm. I can't see the picture since I am answering from ym email inbox.

I know it was a few days ago but I just noticed the picture. Wow! That would be impressive in my area and we get hail several times a year. I imagine it was hard to drive around for a few hours at least until it all melted. I can handle snow but I really hate ice!

Hi ronald what with the climate change etc etc it doesn't surpise me, even Australia had snow a while back cannot be sure how long ago..so maybe that's what is causing the weather to be all over the place..the climate change..littleowl

The weather is just weird everywhere! I've never seen so much hail as what's shown in your picture. Snow, yes, hail, no.

I wish I live in a sunny island LOL it's mostly dark and gloomy here unless summer maybe not that dark and gloomy for those born here, but because I was born in a tropical country, living in this weather takes a lot of getting used to we actually had snow in november already but they said we have never got down to minus 40 in winter for some years now, so I guess there is a change in weather too I can't tell difference between minus 20 and under LOL I guess my body just can't feel it anymore so whatever they say about minus 40 I wouldn't know right or wrong I wonder if there is any change of weather in my homeland too since my family never said anything unusual, maybe tropical countries are the last ones to experience it?

Snow in malta?? IS it supposed to snow in malta in the 1st place?? IF not, it's really unbelievable.. lol =D At least u get to experience snow at your own country and need not travel to other countries just to experience snow.. hehe ^_^ But at the same time, the weather change might be dangerous, as more bad things might happen, and the more unlikely things to strike, will all become more likely now..

Hi ronaldinu, That is very unusual for your country, and I have never seen hail like in our country I think the weather is going topsy turvy somehow. Tamara

Hi there ronaldinu Wow that's great, isn't it? You do seem almost excited by the fact that this happened! I would love it to snow here in the UK but we have yet to see even a flake down in the South West!

Oh wow!! That is another bizarre but natural occrance. I can remember getting hail when I lived up north. But since I live in the warmer region of my country I no longer see hail or snow. Not much rain either.

Wow that is quite an event and seems very unusual to see on a sunny island such as yours. I hope you go back to your normal sunshine very soon. :-)Derek

Hey ronaldiniu! I just looked at the photo! That is really strange to see! I have never even seen that much hail here in NY! And we do get hail storms! That is truly bizarre! What was the temperature when it fell? It is usually warm when you get hail? Those are some big hailstones! That is a great photo! I can see why the people on your island were confused and upset. If we would have gotten that here in NY we would have been confused and upset too! They can barely handle 1 foot of snow where I live!
