Ok, I haven't seen too much discussion on this here yet, so I'm biting on it. It Is Carolyn Kenedy is going to be recieving the same treatment in the media Governor Palin did? While some may see this as vindication or even a good "whats good for the goose" kind of thing, I am left to wonder how many democrats will be bending over backwards to defend her against what seems to be emerging while they assisted the media in it's disgusting assault on governor Palin. In an interview with Dominic Carter, a quote from Kenedy..."Now, well, can we just, you know, get through this, like you know, right here now? I mean, you know?"......Now if Palin had pulled this line, it would have been given half a dozen threads in here alone with better than 25 responses, not to mention repeated loops of airtime on msnbc, cnn and nearly every news paper in the country.
So, your thoughts people.

I just don't see Caroline Kennedy being as lampoonable as Sarah Palin. Also, it would take a Tina Fey caliber comedian to do the job and how many Tina Feys can there be? The cicumstances are very different. Caroline would be filling an interim senate seat. She would not be a hearbeat away from the most powerful job on earth.
In my opinion, she is not qualified to fill Hillary Clinton's shoes and is coming accross as a light weight but I'm not a New Yorker and the choice is not mine to make.

I haven't heard that interview, either.
And while that statement isn't very well-formed, and she says "you know" a lot, it doesn't compare to something like (for example) claiming foreign policy experience due to your state's proximity to a foreign country.

Forgot to add:
I don't fully support Kennedy's nomination for the job, because she's vying for it in a lazy way. She's never campaigned for an office before, and it seems she's only asking for this now that she won't have to go to the trouble of proving her worth to her constituents.

First of all, there's no fair comparison between Caroline Kennedy and Sarah Palin; Palin was the V.P. nominee and had her ticket won she'd have been a heartbeat from the Presidency. Caroline is in the running to be appointed to a two year term as one of 100 U.S. Senators. IF she's appointed by Governor Patterson and if she chooses to continue in that seat she'll have to run for election in both 2010 and in 2012. I haven't seen the interview you mention above so I really can't make a fair comparison between that and any of Palin's interviews or quotes but I have seen and heard Caroline speak on quite a few occasions and I've found her to be quite articulate and well-spoken.
I'm not sure if Caroline is "qualified" or "ready" to be the junior Senator from New York or not but that decision isn't mine, it's up to Governor Patterson and after that it will be up to the voters of N.Y. whether they want to keep her there. I'm sure she'll get plenty of media attention if she is selected and everyone will be waiting for her to mess up.
That having been said, I'm afraid (or maybe I should say thankful...lol!) there's only one Sarah Palin.

anniepa....it's like people saying "but Bush did this or that....." Palin isn't a heartbeat away from the presidency. She isn't even in charge in Alaska anymore. But the media still bashes her. Carolyn Kennedy is almost an icon in this country and very well could be elected to the senate. Which makes the laws in this country...not the president. And I wouldn't doubt for one minute that somewhere in this country, there's a Kennedy being groomed to sit in the Oval Office. It very well could be her. Just a thought.

"Palin isn't a heartbeat away from the presidency. She isn't even in charge in Alaska anymore."
Hmmm...my response was posted in December. Many people were still thinking about the fact that Palin indeed could have been a heartbeat away from the Presidency and she was still Governor of Alaska and nobody would have ever guessed she'd quit before her term was up.
"But the media still bashes her."
You make it seem like she were quietly leading a private life and the media were violating her privacy without her saying a word. That's far from the truth!
"Carolyn Kennedy is almost an icon in this country and very well could be elected to the senate."
Caroline isn't even running as far as I know and she wasn't appointed.
"And I wouldn't doubt for one minute that somewhere in this country, there's a Kennedy being groomed to sit in the Oval Office. It very well could be her. Just a thought."
And a Bush or two...and a Clinton... There are a few other politically active and well known families I could probably think of. What's your point?

I see no point in it other than lowering my standards to compete with the Palin bashers. I've got better things to do.

Caroline Kennedy is a Kennedy, that's about enough said. The media would never dare to attack her like they did Palin! Uncle would be after them in a heartbeat! And, I think she'll be given the Senate seat of Clinton's simply because she is a Kennedy.

I've noticed ingeneral, democratics being treated more respectfully than republicans. I also believe Kennedy is being treated a certain way because in many ways a lot of Americans grew up with her. She's too much of a celebrity in a way to get the Palin, new comer, bash. I don't her ability, which she sorely lacks, will be questioned due to her Kennedy charm.

Well no she wont be treated the same as Palin. For one she is a Kennedy. Two her father was a famous president that was assassinated. Three people have a very romantic view when it comes to her and her family (the whole camlot thing). People have about her and her family for so long that they feel they know her. As one person here on mylot put it "America's Princess". Plus add to that she is a democrat. Even though she has not real political qualifiations she will be treated with more respect than Palin.
She will probly get the position. WHy? Well because she is a Kennedy of course. She is riding her family name all the way the congress. Now wether or not she is up for the job ...we will have to wait and see. But she will get it over an no name or less known person with better qualifications just because of her genetics. Who says we do not have royality here in America. IF you have the right name (Clinton, Bush, Kennedy etc...) you automaticly get a job in politics.
