It was just one HLN (head line news). They did a big story about how homeland security is saying there is a big risk from "right wing extremist". The story was about how dangerous "right wingers are". Then when they were done with that story they went to the tea party rallies say it was sponsored by "right wing extremist" and that it was to "against Obama".
Talk about a bold face lie. Not only are the poeple there not extremist....but the rally was against unfair taxing, government waste and the bail outs.
What do you think about HLN's reporting of the tea parties and calling republicans "extremist" and a terrorist threat to this country? Will the general public buy it or will they see the truth?

Hi lilwonders...I saw a reporter call the parties anti-Obama, anti - government, and backed by the extremist station Foxnews. I thought that someone on CNBC started this all with one comment about the tea party? I thought that Fox just reported - nothing that was specifically backed. I hope people will see the truth.

I didn't think these tea parties were all republicans, either _
Extreme, bah. It's about time someone did something -- ANYTHING, about this kind of thing...instead of hiding behind apathy.
I really didn't expect them to turn around and go; "It was the republicans!", I'm actually surprised...but yeah, it's bad all around. Terrorists, bah. They should watch who they're calling names.

How did you expect the media to react? Did you expect them to suddenly change over night? Did anyone really expect this to have an effect on Congress or Obama? If you did, you were dreaming.
They have an agenda and no amount of tea parties or mailed tea tags or faxes or emails or phone calls is going to change it people. We are going to have to go physically to Washington and stop all traffic and make them see us. Bring Congress to a screeching halt.
They are already making sounds that refer to the returning military as possible future trouble makers. I think that is the most frightening thing that I have ever heard. I heard it today again when I was flipping back and forth listening to the idiots on stations other than FOX and I cannot remember which one it was. The Government is making plans to do something about the returning military and the past military "JUST IN CASE WE DO SOMETHING"
We cannot let these idiots continue dreaming this stuff up. We cannot continue to let them sell us to China and the Arab Emerites (our debt). We do not even own most of New York anymore. Foreigners do. We cannot own land in foreign countries so why can they own our country. This is wrong. We need a law to stop this too NOW!

Why is protesting wasteful government spending and over taxing of the poeple an extreme actions? As for rejoining England....don't hold your breath.
Really....do you have anything to add this discussion?

Exactly. For some reason now a days in this country if you believe in the constitution, or our founding farthers than you are a "extremist" or possible terror threat. I do not know if you are getting a lot news about the tea parties today.....but a lot of press here are lying their butts off to make them look bad. So much for journalist integrity.

Yes, unfortunately people buy it as well as that it is just high level republicans organizing this in order to undermine Obama and to deregulate Obama policies. I have seen those statements repeated even by otherwise very intelligent people. It's really sad to see how they swallow the koolaid send down through the Obama hotline.
Funny how Obama today talked about that they are re-writing the tax code to make it easier to do your tax return. In other words, 'we'll make it easier to pay your taxes and with the change you won't notice that you have to pay more', lol;)
As long as the movement continues, they cannot continue to ignore the message and the fact that people come from all walks of life to protest.

I hope it will continue and people will come. It worked elsewhere. If people are fed up, they will show up. When protests grow it'll be hard to ignore them, not by the media nor by the government.
Only one local station reported on the protest, showing up two hours early and filming the people that have already shown up. While quickly stating at the beginning that the protest officially starts two hours later, they quickly moved on to label this as a small protest, minor protest, anything to minimalize it. At one point it almost sounded like they were protesting that they have to pay taxes, not the excessive spending of the government. They mixed in that it is the last day to file your tax return and that the post offices will not stay open longer but keep their normal closing time. In fact they devoted more time to that than the protest to go back to the protest and say that this mini protest against the bailout money is today and don't forget to file your tax return today as it is the last day and the post office will not stay open longer.
Well, it's a good sign that it at least is making the news now;)

It is going to take more than this just this one day to accomplish our goal. To really wake up the government to the fact that we are sick and tired of the waste and corruption it is going to take more of these on a very regular basis and huge turn outs. I hope the people of this country stick to it for the long run.

President Roosevelt also made taxes easier on the little guy. He started the withholding tax, so that you paid a little each week and if the governmnet raised the tax rate you would only see a few cents difference in your pay check. Before that people had to pay quarterly and it was difficult if you did not save for it. You also knew how much you were paying and any increase would be noticed. A simple $0.20 a week increase in the tax would yield a $2.60 increase in your quarterly tax bill or over an hours wage for most workers. Beware of the governmnet telling you we are going to help you or make things easier.

I am afraid that there will be more and more comments like this in the future. The media - for the most part at least - seems to be squarely in Obama's corner. Therefore any of us who is brave enough to protest to anything that our new administration does will be labeled an extremist and quite possibly a terrorist and a threat to our nations' security. This is a very sad thing, but honestly I see it going that way. I only hope that the people who blindly supported him will begin to see what we have gotten our nation into for at least the rest of the next four years.
Maybe by the time elections come around again, as a nation we will be so sick of the rhetoric and political games that we will vote out the old and vote in new blood with our nation's best interest at heart. I only hope that they don't bail out the media like rumors imply is being considered. This will only make things that much worse!
But no, I don't think that if you protest you are an extremist or a threat to our nation, it simply makes you a concerned and worried citizen trying to do what you believe is right!

I'll never watch that channel again. Someone should sue them for libel.

CNN, MSNBC, and CNBC are doing any better. CNN called the protesters "selfish" and "right wing conspiracy". MSNBC and CNBC have been doing their best to call it an attack on Obama. All of them are lying their butts off. I may not be real fond of Fox news. But it looks like I may have to stick with them for a while. The others are really starting to tick me off with their blantant lies and twisting of stories.
