I Want To Restore My Computer To Its Original State.... |
|
My computer is getting to where it runs really slow and freezes up a whole lot. I'm wanting to try to restore it to its original state, but it didn't come with a disk that restores it, so does anyone know how I can restore it? Thanks!

Go to Safe Mode and it will give you the option to do a "system restore" You can use the restore (forget the actual name) that takes it back to as it was when you purchased it and you loose everything you have put on it.. or you can do a Non-destruct system restore which takes it back to as purchased, but leaves alot of your things on there. I have done both and it worked fine...but do it at your own risk. I'm far from computer literate in most things.. but HP walked me through this and it worked for me. I just back January did a Non-destruct restore and it kept some thing I had and lost others.. but I don't have any that if I loose it I can't get it back. I have the disks for the games my grand daughater played so I just installed them again and then just did a search for the things that I had and didn't have the URL for and put them back on. Good luck.. if you have radio - call Leo the Tech Man (8888-askleo) and he could probably walk you through it. I listen to him every weekend! Or check out his web site - there is a good forum there with tons of information. good luck

Depending on how old your pc is it might not let you do a full restore on it. I would first do a clean up on it and get rid of unwanted files, and documents that you dont need. Usually when there is too much stuff on your hard-drive, it will run slow.

There should be a link somewhere on the programs menu to restore the computer. If you cannot find the system then try visiting the website of the manufacturer, where you should find details of how to restore everything.

To this without having any problem is you to take your computer to a store that sells computers and ask them to format your computer and ask them to save you all the files you have this is not expensive depends on the service price of that store, and if it's a good store you will be able to get your "new computer" back in something like 2 or 3 hours:D
Good luck!
PS: Dont forget to say them to save all your files and programs otherwise you will lose them all!

nancyrowina (2026) | 6 months ago | Yes I highly recommend ccleaner it's the only thing you need to make the machine run faster, I was amazed the first time I ran it. And use something like adaware or spybot search and destroy to get any lingering spyware.

If you can find someone who has the disks for the version of windows you have, you can use this to reload the operating system as long as you have the product key that belongs to your machine. This is hopefully on a sticker on the side of the box.
An alternate idea would be to try one of the Linux distributions. It's much more secure and free.
Good luck

7. stephcjh (22992) | 6 months ago | I think you may be able to go into your control panel and restore it all the way back to the day you want it restored. You may also be able to call the manufacturer and they will walk you through how to reformat the disk to get it back to the original state but you will lose everything you have stored on it.

8. mtdewgurl74 (10363) | 6 months ago | You can find someone who has a restore/reformat disk and use it on yours maybe if it is compatible with yours. I have loaned mine out to 4 other people and they never had a problem using it. So hope you find one. Also you can contact the manufacturer of the computer and see about getting a disk for it there also. But it would cost you money maybe to do so.

hiccup (6671) | 6 months ago | RESTORE to Factory Setting will wipe every thing bar that from the Factory.
How ever you can restore to an hour Day or a month or a year ago.
But when you do this anything new fron now to then will be lost.
So do not be in a hast to set things back.
Like I said you can RESTORE you PC back to when you want it to be.
But I need to be home to see the corect way to do the, It is simple to do, But I need to be sure before I give you the way to do it.

hiccup (6671) | 6 months ago | You will be sick of me here, but I just read the next COMMENT, that is my advice to you as that is how I do mt PC. Just follow the simple steps there and you will find everything will be better.
You may also like to DEFRAG your PC, this is where it tidies up the files, Bit like the book case and then you put them all back in order you find you have more room and you will also find the PC could be faster to work for you.
