Baby Shower

The last several showers I have been to I have been the hostess....with one or more of my sisters for most of them have been for nieces etc. We don't do that game either......because the emotions run so high during pregnance I have seen the soon to be mother break down and cry. The funnest game we do is to take small saftey pins and put them in a bowl of rice. You then blindfold the guests and they have to try to take out as many as possible. Most of the showers in our family have turned into equipment showers....when I had my kids you didn't need all the stuff that comes with a baby now! LOL.....

Hi Amber, I went to a shower several years ago and I livened up the party with a toilet paper game.. but not for the reason you stated. My game was you roll off as much as you would normally 'use' and then you must tear off each square and tell something about yourself. This was to get everyone introduced and to share some of yourselves with the crowd. The longer the strip of toilet paper the more things you had to tell about yourself. It was fun and my friend still talks about it.

The last baby shower that I have been to was my sister's I have to agree that is a bad game to play. I wouldn't won't anyone to do that to me either.

I just got home from a baby shower where they played that game. My friend didnt seem bothered by it at all. Ive also played it at one of my showers and might at this next one. It doesnt bother me at all!
BTW, have you got any of my emails? Ive written you back from my cox account but wasnt sure if you got it. Did you get the invite to my baby shower for Aug 15th? A friend of mine is throwing it, otherwise I wouldnt be having one!

I remember attending a baby shower and we played this game. You are suppose to name a baby item without saying a certain word. I am going to use the word Baby.
If a person said this word a point will be taken from them. Instead of points we were given clothes pins. Each person had 5 clothes pins and when all the your pins were taken you were out of the game. The person with the most pins at the end of the game won a prize. Well it was an 8 year old girl playing the game with us so I was closest to her when she said the word Baby so I reached over and took one of her clothes pins and the poor little thing cried like a baby. I felt so bad I tried to give her the pin back she wouldn't take it. So her mother apologized for her and gave her one of her clothes pin. After that all the fun was gone out of the game for me I felt so bad that I started the little girl to crying. But what was I suppose to do that was the way to play the game.

I actually was just at a baby shower last week and they played this game. I've really never thought twice about it, everyone knows that a pregnant woman's belly grows alond with the baby, but now that you mention it, I can see how it could hurt some feelings.

At the shower I went to, I expected that the parents would receive a lot of the necessities for a new baby (this is their first child), however, I was surprised to see that the majority of the presents were clothes. Lots and lots of baby clothes. I, however, gave them two Swaddle Me blankets. One in size small and one in size large. These were so wonderful when my son was born and not something that I'd think someone would give as a gift.

Over the years, I have gone to many showers. The best part of all is being around fun people..happy people. The food is not that important. The gifts are not important. It is the spirit of the people.

I tend to give either a gift certificate to a local store that sells baby necessities or, if they have a registry, I will get something on there that I know they will need. Sometimes they pick cute stuff that I know, as a mom and grandmom, that they really do not need and will discover that after the fact.

I've only been to about 3 baby showers - other than for women at work - now I give bibs, not thought too much about until after the baby is born, then they hunt me up to give me special thanks!

I think that was the only game I remember being played at a Baby Shower. I don't remember much about showers because i haven't really been to many. I didn't have big baby showers when I was pregnant. Don't really have many friends that would do that kind of thing for me. I usually would be the one doing that for others.
