A different take on the shoe fettish |
|
Well, 40 yrs ago some shoes were found in an old cave in Missouri. They dated them, but it seems they dated them wrong.
They were were 2,000 yrs older than they had previous thought.
Now this is pretty cool information, and there's a couple of pretty cool pictures in the article too.

(just to let you know, I don't copy paste the articles here, so if you are coming to this discussion a long time from now, its likely to be gone.)

BarBaraPrz (3399) | 5 months ago | Why are you amazed that they tried to make them more comfortable? After all, that's why they made them: to ease and protect their feet. After all, they walked everywhere. And since the cave they were found in is very dry, I'm guessing there wasn't any moss to cushion them.

ElicBxn (15311) | 5 months ago | I remember reading in Clan of the Cave Bear that they stuffed grasses in their footwear to keep their feet warm, why not pad them. Heck I've worn mocs and they have NO protection except a thin layer of leather if you don't put some in.

4. dragon54u (9611) | 5 months ago | I love reading stuff like that! It makes sense that people would want to protect their feet. What got me is the quality of the footwear--they crafted them to be tough and last a long time, like we used to make things. I would think that we'd be larger than those people of the past, it's surprising that those people have about the same shoe size as we do now.

ElicBxn (15311) | 5 months ago | well, ya know, I have 7 1/2 to 8 sized feet, and I've know ladies taller than I am who have about the same size - sometimes smaller. I think it has to do more with the bone size of the people, and remember - they might've been somewhat smaller than if they had grown up today - because of diet and medical help.

Thoes are some old shoes. I have read the articel and found it facinating. I do wonder what tribe of native americans used this type of shoe? the group may have been migrating down the continent. but maybe they are a lost tibe that went extinct.

ElicBxn (15311) | 5 months ago | ya got me, it sounds like the cave might've had lots of different inhabitants, apparently they only really mention the oldest age of the shoes, not the newer one, tho they are kind of mentioned in passing

10. BambooPanda13 (289) | 5 months ago | Wow, that is so amazing. It's so crazy how under just the right conditions things like that can be stored for so many years. That is a lot of shoes even for a modern day person to own. Maybe the people who lived in the caves actually, made the shoes themselves? That would be cool too. I think that is amazing, and also how they were saying that nothing was really new, that a lot of shoes are still basically made the same way. Nice post thanks!
