Would you ever consider or have you ever gotten |
|
hair permanently removed through a laser hair removal center or any other means? If you have, what did you use? Was it very expensive? Was it effective? Did it hurt?
I love the idea of never having to shave my legs again as shaving can be such a chore, but I would like to know if there is really such a thing as permanent hair removal or does it eventually grow back no matter what you've used?
Before I forget I just found a product online called Finally Free, that claims to be more effective than most of the other products out there. I wonder if this really works, because I'm almost tempted to get it.
So, would you ever get permanent hair removal? Why or why not?

1. horsesrule (1791) | 4 months ago | I have not ever done it, mostly because I've never had the money for such things but I would defintely consider having it done for my legs and my underarms. I don't like hair in either spot, it's pesky, especially the underarms. I'm a chicken about pain though so I would have to know that it didn't hurt before doing it. But yes, I would get permanent hair removal if I could.

sacmom (5819) | 4 months ago | Neither do I, but my husband told me about how his boss can get a deal for his employees or their spouses when it comes to the laser hair removal center and the cost could be made through low monthly payments (automatically taken out of their paycheck) instead of paying for it in one lump sum.
However, I don't care for the idea of some stranger removing hair from my body. I'd much rather do it in the comfort and privacy of my own home. That's why I like the idea of Finally Free. It's supposedly better than the rest and isn't anywhere near as pricey. I guess the only way for me to know if it works is to buy it. But I don't want to be throwing away money if it doesn't work...

kl_blueknight (320) | 4 months ago | My mom used to ask her friend to remove hairs from her arms and legs. They use some strings and do little turns on it to trap the hairs and pull it out. It cost nothing and its permanent too.

|
sacmom (5819) | 4 months ago | Wasn't that painful? It doesn't sound that much different than the tweezing idea another member mentioned on here. I love the idea of it being low in cost and all, but it wouldn't be worth the time or trouble spent if it causes a lot of pain.

2. moonchild1au (847) | 4 months ago | I would definately consider doing this for the same reasons but have always though it to be expensive - not that I've looked into prices. Both shaving & waxing can be a real chore/drag so to speak.

| |
|
|
sacmom (5819) | 4 months ago | I've never waxed, but I have been shaving for years. With the cost of shavers it might be worth it in the long run to get something a little more permanent. I just hate the thought of spending so much money at once.
As far as costs goes, I'm not exactly sure how much it is either, but it must cost a pretty penny as I got a coupon for $300 off any package after entering a contest through American Laser Centers.

3. mentalward (4255) | 4 months ago | Shaving leg hair... UGGH! I hate it, too. I used to use something called an Epilady but I'm not sure if they're still on the market. They yanked several hairs out at a time and it HURT! It also seemed to miss the really small, fine hairs.
So, I started tweezing those small hairs. I also bought a home electrolysis machine that did work. What I noticed, though, was that not all the hairs were growing back... ever!
My mother went for electrolysis treatments and it was explained to her that each hair follicle has two hairs, not one. One hair grows and is eventually shed but not before the second hair starts to grow to replace the shedded one. (That's the reason why we don't all eventually go bald because we lose approximately 100 hairs per day from our heads, but new hairs are replacing them.)
So, in order for any of these things to get rid of hair permanently, you have to get rid of the first hair, then get rid of the second hair before another one starts to grow. There are two hair roots in every follicle that need to be destroyed so that no more hair grows back, ever.
I know it's weird, but I've been tweezing my leg hairs for a few years now, whenever I have the time. I have very few hairs growing back on my legs now! It really works! Naturally, I started with those thicker hairs and, once they stopped growing back, I started working on the finer hairs. I honestly do not have many hairs growing back on my legs now! The trick is to pull out that second hair before a new one starts to grow. If you do it often enough, that part is easy.
As for laser hair removal, I have no idea. I've never tried it or know of anyone who has. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. I just thought I'd share what is working for me.

mentalward (4255) | 4 months ago | Oh, that's okay, I AM a little weird!
Yeah, tweezers to take a long time. I think I got bored and gave it a try. That's what got me started. Of course, I'm one of those people who has to constantly be doing something, even when sitting and watching TV. I started near my ankles and only did that area until no more hairs were growing, then went up my legs in small increments, while shaving the rest if I had something special to do where I wore a dress, shorts or skirt.
Yes, electrolysis probably works better than my method. Actually, I'm sure it does. Well, much faster, anyway. I've had both kinds of those home electrolysis machines, one used a very thin wire that you had to push down into the hair follicle (it doesn't hurt), then zap it with electricity. The other was like tweezers, only they sent the electricity down through the hair itself. That one didn't work quite as well.
My mother had to go have two treatments on each section because of the two hairs and, at $50.00 per treatment (way back about 30 years), it's too expensive for me!
| |
|
|
|
mentalward (4255) | 4 months ago | That looks almost exactly like the home electrolysis thing I had, the one with the tweezer-like tip. The major difference that I can see is the price. Even at their "sale" price, it's much more expensive than what I had. Mine cost around $20.00 and I bought it at Wal*Mart.
I'm not sure if Wal*Mart still sells them but I'm heading out that way later today so I'll check if you want. Or, you could go to their website and see if they still sell them there. Much cheaper and do the same thing.
However, if you don't have the patience for tweezers, I don't think this is for you. If this one is like the one I had, you had to grab each individual hair with the tweezer-thing and hold it for 15 to 20 seconds before the hair slipped out. And, if it didn't slip out easily, you had to do it a second time. If the hair slips out easily, you've killed the root. But remember, there are two hairs (and two hair roots) in every follicle so you'd have to repeat each hair follicle unless you were lucky enough to see both hairs growing out at the same time and grab both with the tweezer-thing.
If you want to get rid of hair permanently and quickly, I'd go with the laser treatments. They're probably the most expensive but most likely the quickest.

5. wolfie34 (13863) | 4 months ago | I think a lot of guys would like never to shave again! The thought of never having to experience razor burn or rashes caused by shaving, the chore of having to do it daily or every other day, it's an onerous task and I hate it. I once stopped shaving and it became itchy and unmanageable and I looked like a scruff, even when it turned into a beard it didn't suit me and a lot of people are put off by beards and moustaches. So yes if it was viable I would seriously consider having it done so I wouldn't have to shave again. And for my back too! There's nothing worse than a hairy back because I can't reach my back my back gets very hairy, yuk!

sacmom (5819) | 4 months ago | Really? I never knew guys felt this way! And I didn't even think about what you guys have to go through, especially if you don't like having a beard or mustache! And having to shave the back hair must be very difficult to do unless you have someone to help you. And here I was thinking us women have it rough when it comes to body hair. I feel for you wolfie (and all the other guys out there that are in the same boat) I really do.

6. dpk262006 (8872) | 4 months ago | Hi there! I have no such experience. I believe that getting removed hair through some laser techniques etc. would be a painful process and it would be expensive too. However, if it add to one's beauty, I think, it might be worth the pain.

7. smartie0317 (1141) | 4 months ago | I never got hair removal before. I once did a survey about haircare. They offered me 300 dollars off of laser removal. I called in and they were shady. They wouldn't say how much a treatment or full treatment was. I had to spend money, cab fare, to get a consultation and a price. I would love to get it, though, one day when I have a job. I have very dark hair.

sacmom (5819) | 4 months ago | This wasn't through American Laser Centers, was it? I entered a contest through their site and received a coupon for the same thing. After I entered I received emails as well as phone calls (3 of each) stating that the first step is for me to set up a no cost, no obligation consolation with one of their clinic managers. I didn't bother to do it though.
I don't know why they just can't cut to the chase and say how much it is. That way people can decide whether or not they want to do something like this without having to waste their time by going into one of their clinics.

My husband has this option through his boss, though I'm kind of weary of spending so much money, especially if it failed to work on me.

10. blackbriar (6210) | 4 months ago | I would love to get permanent hair removal of my armpits. I hate shaving/using Nair on them every week. My leg hair is blonde so I rarely shave my legs. I hear it's not cheap which is what prevents me from having it done. If it hurts, that also may stop me from having my armpit hair removed permanently.
