are you a voracious reader? |
|
i would have to say that i am. when i was young, i was reading above my grade level and since then, i tend to read everything and anything i can get my hands on including encyclopedias and yes, even the dictionary. i typically read non fiction because i am a history fanatic and usually read a couple of books at a time. i just finished a book on the lusitania (and the sinking thereof) and now i am reading a book on vietnam (the war). i typically read at night but also read on the bus and to that end i sometimes read pocketbooks and am reading message from nam by danielle steel. what about you? have you read the dictionary lately? how many books do you read at a time? what are you reading right now? any other history lovers out there?

1. wolfie34 (13863) | 4 months ago | I used to be an avid reader, I took after my nan she was always reading a book! Then along came the internet and my reading more or less came to a dramatic halt. I had to read research books when I was in college, but they are not the same and I saw those as educational and not books that you can just relax and read at leisure. I am currently reading, (don't laugh!) Harry Potter, after seeing the 6th film which I feel wasn't up to much, I find the book far more enjoyable. I like fantasy, horror and detective novels. I do feel that when life gets you down, it's great to escape realism and jump into fantasy and jump into the story and be one of the parts in the story.

antarcticpostcards (420) | 4 months ago | The internet has also got me to read less in book format, but I do read a lot of articles and such on the Internet. As for Harry Potter, yes the book is way better, as they changed so much in the movie.

3. antarcticpostcards (420) | 4 months ago | I love to read, but I do not seem to find the time for it as much as I used to. I like to read a lot of genres, but my favorites are history, historical fiction, and mysteries. Lately I have been into themed mysteries, especially culinary ones. I just finished one by Joanne Fluke and am now onto a historical mystery. I think it is called Murder in Milltown or something like that.

4. dorannmwin (1881) | 4 months ago | I'm quite the reader, have been for as long as I can remember. Yes, I remember the days when I would be bored and get out the encyclopedia just to read it. I've read magazines that I find laying around. I've even had times when I read the ingredients on a can or whatever. Just something to keep my mind occupied. I don't particularly have a favorite genre to read, but mostly I stick to fiction for the simple fact that it lets my imagination run wild.

5. dawnald (9574) | 4 months ago | I have a pretty huge library. I just finished "The Year's Best Science Fiction 2007", haven't decided what I'm going to pick up next. But I have a HUGE backlog. I do love history, but I read more Science Fiction and Fantasy than anything.

6. k1tten (2046) | 4 months ago | I'm not much of a history lover to be truthful. Now, my sister is. She's going for a degree in history and loves to read anything historical. I'm more of a fantasy, science fiction, and fiction lover myself. Always a reader of that really. Sometimes I can read up to two or more novels at a time. Unfortunately I get the story lines mixed up after that.

9. cher8558 (370) | 4 months ago | Hi friend,
I love to read true crime stories. Unfortunately, I will get about a page read and fall asleep, every time. So I end up trying to read the book about 10 times. Eventually I give up.
Keep on reading!!

10. xParanoiax (4937) | 4 months ago | Yes I am. I adore reading and try to get my hands on as many books as possible. I'm not a history buff, but I do like encyclopedias and dictionaries and books that can boost my vocabulary...as a writer, this is very important to me.
Right now I'm re-reading a childhood favorite inbetween chapters of two other books, one on genetics and another on societal collapse.
At most I read three at a time. Usually I read just one.
