Hangers! T-Shirts! And Ironing! What do you think? email this discussion to a friend?

Here's an interesting one for you all! I wear all kinds of different T-Shirts with jeans so I'm more commonly known as the jeans and T-Shirt man! I hardly wear anything else!happy Here's the thing, after I have washed my T-Shirts I generally just shove them in my chest of draws as they are or I may hang them up on a hanger but this probably sounds pointless as I never iron them! Do you iron your T-Shirts? I sometimes notice that there are a few creases and lines but nothing too serious. There is a time though when I return to ironing and that is when I buy or purchase a brand new T-Shirt, then I treat it like a prize possession and I make sure it's always neat! So, what's your take on this? Are you bothered about walking down the street in a T-Shirt that is not ironed? Believe me, I'm generally of smart appearance when it comes to dress but I get a bit lazy when it comes to ironing!lol Thoughts if you please!!!!!w00tAndrew

I rarely iron.
I take t shirts out of the dryer while they're still damp and put them on a hanger.
I don't think anyone should have creases in their jeans....I can't remember why i have an iron.....

myLot reputation of 96/100. AndrewFreyne (2546)   ranked 522 out of 38,338 in life  4 months ago

I've heard that this is sometimes a good idea, to take clothes out of the dryer whilst they are still damp and then hang them up on a hanger, this then supposedly takes the wrinkles and lines out and when the item is eventually dry it really looks ok. Well, I have never tried that anyhow. Jeans are a really strange piece of clothing as I hardly ever notice any creases or no major creases anyhow when I pull them out of the washing machine. Let me guess, your iron is beginning to gather dust like my own?happy Well, I'm glad that my iron still works to tell you the truth! I just blow the dust off and get ironing with any new t-shirts that I buy. Andrew

well i m not sure this would work rather u shud han them without drying

I've hung shirts up on a hanger that were damp and it does take the wrinkles out as they dry. I rarely do this because they feel stiff. I try to get shirts out of the dryer as soon as they're dry, before the dryer cools down. No wrinkles.

Hi Andrew, well the thing is with ironing, I can't iron! Can't iron for toffee, I actually end up with a garment with more creases in it after ironing than there was before! So it's a case of Can't Iron, Won't Iron! I can do any other job (apart from cleaning windows) except ironing, fortunately I am able to hang my clothes out after washing them in the Summer and they don't need ironing, or I will hang them up straight away, I do get away without ironing, as most of my clothes don't need ironing thankfully! I always look smart in a casual way too.

myLot reputation of 96/100. AndrewFreyne (2546)   ranked 522 out of 38,338 in life  4 months ago

Hi wolfie, I can certainly relate to you on that note! I really find ironing boring to tell you the truth! I would much rather pay some chap or lady at the local dry cleaners to iron my clothes, I hear that they offer those services now! This is quite funny because I was in the Sea Cadets during my teenage years and I remember ironing such sharp creases in my uniform that they felt like a knife edge! That is history though and I really don't want to give the time of day to ironing anymore! Andrew

Hello happy Unless there are no creases or lines in the T Shirt, I will iron it as I think it looks smarter. My own T shirts I can fold and put into the drawer and they will stay neat. My sons shove theirs in to their drawers and cupboards but do not take as much care so when they retrieve them they are creased even more confused. They can iron but will not do so if there is just one T shirt they want to wear so when I iron them, they go on hangers, it saves me ironing time and they look as if they have been ironed.

myLot reputation of 96/100. AndrewFreyne (2546)   ranked 522 out of 38,338 in life  4 months ago

Well, that sounds like you have a good plan that works for you. They come out with all these complicated instructions like "Iron on reverse!" and "Do not iron logo!" My, my my, who needs that!!happy If ever the times comes when I have to wear a shirt again then I may seriously consider plugging in my iron once more! A plain white shirt definitely has to be ironed and hanged I think! Andrew

For me, it really depends on the T-shirt in question. If it's one of my casual, bum-around-the-house shirts, I really don't care. I've been known to wear those after they've been balled up in drawers for ages. If they're wrinkly, it doesn't matter to me.

If it's one of the company T-shirts I wear to work, on the other hand... I have to pay attention to what it looks like. Coming to work in wrinkled shirts just doesn't cut it. I usually hang those shirts as soon after washing them as I can. I rarely have to iron anything, but I do have an iron for those rare times when I need one!

myLot reputation of 96/100. AndrewFreyne (2546)   ranked 522 out of 38,338 in life  4 months ago

That certainly makes a lot of sense! Thankfully I have never had to wear a work T-Shirt but that definitely makes sense, a work T-Shirt should always be ironed! I also wear certain t-shirts around the home that I never really bother about in terms of ironing. As mentioned somewhere else in this discussion my iron is constantly gathering dust and serves only as an overweight paper weight! Andrew

I do iron my T-shirts, for two reasons - they look better and you can more in a drawer when they've been ironed. If you use a tumble dryer and hang them up straight away, they don't usually need ironing. I very rarely use a dryer, preferring to dry things outside on the line, but my dryer is very old and shrinks most things anyway - so putting T-shirts in it is a bad idea!

myLot reputation of 96/100. AndrewFreyne (2546)   ranked 522 out of 38,338 in life  4 months ago

Yes, I agree with you that t-shirts look better when they are ironed however I think that I have just lost the habit, I tend not to care as much, maybe this is the wrong attitude I don't know but it certainly works for me. I have certainly had a problem with shrinking t-shirts in the past but this relates to my washing machine being extra hungry!happy My chest of draws tends to be crammed full of t-shirts and sometimes it's hard to pull a t-shirt out. I may or may not put my iron to good use once again, at the moment it really is acting like a paper weight! Andrew

myLot reputation of 98/100. katsalot1 (878)   ranked 1,184 out of 38,338 in life  4 months ago

Well, if you're happy with not ironing that's great. I wouldn't if I could get away with it! Unfortunately, I have no hanging space left, and couldn't fit any more t-shirts in the drawers if they weren't ironed.

We have the rules in the house now, after i wash the clothes that i wear if i go out, we hang it and do not iron for now, but before we iron it before wearing it, but if the clothes are often wear for school like uniform for teacher and for my brother to school, i should iron it.

myLot reputation of 96/100. AndrewFreyne (2546)   ranked 522 out of 38,338 in life  4 months ago

That sounds like a good plan to me! I've had my iron for so long that it's one of those old ones but it seems to do the trick whenever I make the effort to iron something! I guess school uniforms are important and should be ironed although I never wore a school uniform whilst I was at school, very casual, that was me! Nice chatting with you. Andrew

There is no need to iron them. I put them in the dryer until they are just a tiny bit wet still and then I hang them. That way they are always nice and wrinkle free. I also do that with my husbands collard golf shirts, and even his dress pants the new fabrics of today are very friendly that way, just hang them when they are still a tiny bit wet and they will stay nice and no need to get that annoying iron out.

myLot reputation of 96/100. AndrewFreyne (2546)   ranked 522 out of 38,338 in life  4 months ago

I think a lot of people are mentioning this hanging whilst damp technique! I've never tried that but it seems to be working for a lot of people so I really may experiment with that one!happy The iron weighs about a ton anyhow so that really gets to me at the best of times! Andrew

That's good, whatever suits you. Alok is very lucky to have someone iron his clothes for him though, I wish I had someone to do this for mehappy. Still, I'm thinking that it only takes about five minutes to iron one t-shirt so it's not a serious problem! Thanks bluehibiscus! Andrew

Hi Andrew, well sometimes we can get those kinds of t-shirts which look ironed straight from the washing line whilst others look like an iron is in order. The confusing thing about this of course is that they are both made from the same sort of t-shirt material. Now personally I loathe any form of housework including ironing but do tend to suffer through it rather than go out in crumpled clothes. I had thought I'd hit on the perfect solution a couple of weeks ago when my son expressed a desire to learn how to iron and the first time had great fun with it. He only managed to do it one more time before expressing complete boredom with the activity so I'm back to the usual position of putting it off until it's necessary. You'll find a vast number of t-shirts helps out with this problem. happy

Well hello thea, nice to be chatting with you once again. I remember once upon a time when I showed exactly the same enthusiasm for this task and yet this seems to have diminished, a lot time ago infact! Well, I guess I like to look smart when I go out and so I'm thinking that I should just grind my teeth and get on with it! Ironing is not the end of the world! Andrewwink

Indeed it is not Andrew, it's much worse to mop the floors and try to wash up with only a trickle of water. On the bright side though just imagine if you insisted on wearing shirts.

happyYeah I do iron T-Shirts...I wash and dry them and try to keep them folded neatly. It always seem that when I put them away sometime or another they end up getting some wrinkles in them. The T-Shirt wrinkle monster has attacked. I have to get the iron out to run away the wrinkle monster.
This seems to happen everytime I decide to wear that T-Shirt from the drawer. Usually don't hang up T-Shirts. Maybe I should. This could possible keep the T-Shirt Monster from visiting. lol

myLot reputation of 96/100. AndrewFreyne (2546)   ranked 522 out of 38,338 in life  4 months ago

Hi rosepedal, this all seems like a tremendous task to me! I wish I had more enthusiasm for the task of ironing! It's just so easy to take my t-shirts out of the wash, hang them up, wait until they are dry and then get dressed quickly regardless of the wrinkles! If I'm meeting up with someone for the first time though, maybe a total stranger then I think that I would make more of an effort to iron the wrinkles out of my T-Shirts. Nice talking to you again. Andrew

There are several T-Shirts in my wardrobe and the thought to hang them up after they are washed and dryed, just sounds like a lot of work for me. I guess we have something in common. We both always look for the easy way. I don't mind to do that do you? Have a good day...
