I had a problem like that when my brother was living with me for 4 months last year. I swear he has to have a hearing problem. I questioned him about it and he says his hearing is fine. I don't think so. I could hear the TV loud and clear to my bedroom with the door closed. All I can say its because these people have a hearing problem and they don't know it or want to face it.

Ha ha! I find this particular true of elderly men. I think they are hard of hearing and the volumn has slowly been going up all these years . . . yes, to the point where it keeps everyone else up! I noticed my husband's volumn number on the tv set has been going up - and I remind him of that - and that he's going to be just like his dad someday (one of those that the next street can hear). Sometimes I think people turn up the tv to tune out the rest of the world!

I think most of the time they have the t.v. up as loud as they need it to be to hear, maybe they can hear it at a very very very high volume. Though they have devices now that you can put in your ear and be able to hear something from a few feet away, so they could always use those, if they don't use a hearing aid themselves.

I think you answered you own question here, but I would add that it is also because they are unaware that devices can be purchased to help them be more discreet, or they are in denial, or they are too stingy to invest the money. I started to say too poor, but anyone that poor should not be wasting electricity watching tv. All they have to do is get inexpensive speakers and move them closer to their ears. They don't have to be fancy wireless speakers, although ones with a volume control are nice.

It is hard for me to imagine that they don't realize they are driving everyone else up the wall.

yeah hubby does that too sometimes I have to turn it lower
I don't like it too loud in case something happens to him and he screams I won't be able to hear
so it's more for love and care reason

hi jugsjugs Perhaps those people have not any idea that
they are breaking the sound barrier or they do not know
you can get headphones that will let you listen to a modern
television without breaking the sound barrier and making
the neighbors all mad at them. You might drop a gentle hint
or maybe a not so gentle hint depending on the sort of
people they really are.

I think that you answered your own question, People put the TV up loud so they can hear it. I know that myself it is up louder than it was a few years ago.As we age that is one of the things that start going.
