What's your take on today's music? |
|
I grew up in the 80's with Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Prince(when he was prince), Cyndi Lauper, etc. Rap music was becoming popular. I dont like to listen to music today too much. Reason being because there's no point to it. It doesnt say anything. I love Aerosmith, Styx, Led Zepplin!. There music said something. Even when Ozzy Ozbourne was screaming and carrying on he was pulling you in. When I hear my daughter listening to lil wayne and the song is saying: Iknow I fu**ed up, I know I fu**ed up, my bad I fu**ed up and on and on. We get it! You fu**ed up. ANything else. You can only say BIT*H so many times before it gets old. I have no problem with swearing, saying bit*h, etc. If it makes sense and puts a point accross. Music when I was growing up was fun. No one dissed each other back and forth and made songs out of it to get back at each other. Now adays its not music its one big argument. What do you think about it? dl

4. snowy22315 (8100) | 1 month ago | I like some of today's music but mostly I like music from the 80's. Most of todays music is really too crude for my tastes and I dont think it is particularly nice. I like listening to oldies rock stations but since I have been living in this area, I havent found any that are good. Oh well. What can you do?

5. Hatley (20168) | 1 month ago | hi dloveli I do not care much for to days music. I like Michael Jackson, the beach boys, U2,and the Rolling stones and the Beatles. but I am really into classical music, mostly Mozart's violin and piano concertos and sonatas and his gorgeous flute music.I loved the way Frank Sinatra used to sing too. I also like ballads and folk music, specially celtic stuff.

| 6. daveyrave (10) | 1 month ago | I don't agree with this at all. There is so many bands out there that are trying to make people think. The problem is they are not HUGE. Kids nowadays think they have to be "tough" and what better way to express that then through music. Corporate music industries want to appeal to that so they sign on bands that don't represent the positive side of life. And even if they are positive bands they are going to try there hardest to change that to fit the mold of mainstream music.

7. Ruthep (5928) | 1 month ago | You have to look hard but you can fin some good new music. I don't consider Lil Wayne talented. Some have talent but the style of music they choose makes one think they have none. Others, I wonder what the music studios were thinking when they signed them. I like the band 10 Years and they are fairly new. Lacuna Coil is also pretty good. The singers have great voices. I don't really care for new Prince music. I don't listen to much top 40 or hip hop. I think most of it is junk.

8. stee09 (101) | 1 month ago | Hey dl, I agree with your post music has pretty much gone down the shi#ter these days. I much prefer the oldies. I'm not saying that i'm against all new music and artists there are a fair few recent bands/groups/solo artists that i do enjoy listening to but if i had to pick between old and new to listen to I would hands down be the oldies. Thanks for the post was a nice question:)

9. mommyboo (3277) | 1 month ago | My favorite decade was 80s! I still like today's music though, from various genres as well. I have satellite radio in the car, so my presets are the hits channel (today's pop), the highway (new country), 90s on 9 (90s obviously), 80's (again, self explanatory), and hair nation (hair band rock - mostly 80s).
I'm a big lyrics nut and I look up a lot of things, usually after the music hooked me. I'm surprised you say there's no point to all of today's music. One of my favorites with a message is Nickelback - but they are also immensely popular. Daughtry, Simple Plan, Anberlin, Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley - these are examples of artists I listen to that have a message in their songs.
I hate to say this, but the rap/r&b type of pop that is popular is not my idea of good music, which is where I'd file Lil Wayne lol.

dloveli (970) | 1 month ago | I love the 80's too. I do like some of the today's music as well. I even like some r&b. In fact, I like alot of R&B. Its not the R&B as much as the rap music. These days its seems if you know how to say the "N" word and bit*h than you've got a great song. NOT! Its obviously not falling on deaf ears for the guys got gold records for cripes sake. dl

| 10. TJenkins602 (45) | 1 month ago | Whatever is playing on the radio today is all about the money. People don't look for any actual artistry. Most of the songs I hear being played on the radio has no heart to it and all people seem to do is imitate each other. You hear a certain beat or a song by one artist, it's a hit. You'd get at least three more songs with that same beat and even some of the same phrases from the other songs. Music today doesn't seem to have much heart or soul to them.
