What do you do when you run out of ink in your printer?

Do you buy more ink cartridges or do you refil the cartridge with the ink refils?I tend to give my empty cartridges to charity and buy new cartridges.

I think about refilling them, but I have yet to do that- I usually replace the cartridges. Recently I just had to do this because I hadn't used my computer in months(it was down) and the ink dried up. So I went shopping for cartridges -wow they can be expensive! But after looking in Walmart and then Googling for them online -I finally decided to go through my BigCrumbs account. I am glad I did! Right on the front page they had deal from 4inkjets! They were offering a special savings through BigCrumbs of 10 percent off the whole order(with free shipping). On top of the 14.2% Cash back I get being a BigCrumbs Earner. When I checked them out, I found out that they used reconditioned cartridges so it was much cheaper than the prices I had been seeing everywhere else. So I was able to get a Black ink and a Color ink cartridge (which would have cost me over $80+ new) for 35.08 and I got $4.39 cash back from BigCrumbs so it was only $30 bucks for both.. I am now a happy camper.. IF anyone else wants to save some good money thru bigcrumbs I have put a banner on my profile page.. I save on many things from them so far, but this was definitely the best deal!

I'll have to check it out. The store where I bought my cartridge does have a loyalty program, though.

well I found out there is this one system that allows you to keep ink refill continously flowing in to the cartridges... so I do that too and save money on ink.

sure thing, its through: continues ink supply ink jet. / CIS-INK the bottles cost like $9. it has to do with a hose fitting the cartridges continuously. You can type in the key words above to get the suppliers.

I've tried refilling the cartridge in an older printer I had, and it just turned out a mess. With this printer, I bought new cartridges the last time I ran out of ink. Right now, I'm out of the black, but still have some in the color so limit what I can print. I'll have to get new cartridges sometime soon, I guess. I haven't heard about donating empty cartridges to charity.

Hi Barbara, before you buy your cartridges, see my response below. I was able to save tons of money when I made my recent Ink purchase. It save me like $50 on the ink purchase.

I try to keep one or two new cartridges on hand just in case, but after having damaged a printer from the recycled ones I do not use those any more. I take the empties back to Office Max when they are giving away free copy paper with the returns...or for a while it was a $3 credit against your purchase. Once I took 3 of them back at once and got $9 off my bill. That was a good discount.

I haven't been able to find a refill kit for my printer. I rarely use it, as the ink costs a lot of money! It's cheaper for me to go to the library and print at $.10 a page than use my own printer!

We usually get new ink cartridges and throw away the others, or recycle them at the store we get the cartridges at. My husband and I haven't actually purchased ink though so I couldn't tell you from our personal perspective.

My current cartridges are fixed so that you cannot refill them. I used to sell cartridges, but I do not remember where. What charity accepts them?

In the office we only refill the ink of our printer. We do buy cartridge before but it is more expensive compare to refilling. Acutally we never run out of ink , our office maintenance refill it every other week so that refilling of ink will never be the cause of problems.

I buy a whole new ink cartridge. I recycle the empty cartridges. i would like to have a refillable cartridge. The ones that can be refilled would be cheaper.

I used to have my cartridges refilled with ink then I just new ink cartridges. I just buy the compatible ones meaning not the brand of the printer. It's more affordable and I noticed it's the same as the branded one and it's much cheaper. The ink cartridges that are used I keep them and maybe will sell them or just give them away. Anyways, I have not much ink cartridges because I don't print out that often.

I have never tried to refill them by myself, i always buy new. I just think that i would probable make a big mess trying to do it myself, and have ink all over the place.

When I see the ink getting lighter I order new ink online. In fact I think that may be happening soon because this ink has lasted a long time.

Had to convert our printer for that more efficient non-refillable type. It has an outside tank were-in you can re-fill up to 500ml of ink in it. Ink re- filling station are doing it and are widely became patronized by printer owners. Of course I have lost my printers warranty but I think its worth it. The print quality of a refill ink is not as good as the original one but the cost cuts its to almost 2/3 of the price. I have come to this option because my printers ink always runs out every two weeks and is very costly for our budget to buy new ones.

I have a printer with a limited ink supply so what I do is to use my husband's printer that has more. I am considering getting a Canon printer and just have my small printer on stand by. The ink cartridges are too small to refill, but it was offered "free" with the computer. I figure that I would have had to pay for my printer ten times over with all the refills I would have to do.

depends... but most of the time, we refill inks... cartridges are expensive but i like the ink quality of the original more than the refills. :) but if i only wanted black ink, refills are ok. :)

I do what you do. The tech guys where I work told me the refills can damage the printer!

I refill it. It is so damn frustrating when the printer simply won't budge and get me a decent printout. The last time I had to go through this, I came to know that the heads of the cartridges were damaged as the ink on them dried. I had to replace the cartridges. Give tem to charity, well that is something I haven't done yet. Good to know that one can give them out to charity.

I buy new cartridges because based on my past experience, the refills are not as high of a quality of ink and I am not happy with the prints that I get. Now, my daughter's school is collecting used ink cartridges so they can earn money so despite the fact that it does cost more to buy new cartridges, at least I know that the money from my used ones are going to a very good purpose. I will do anything that I can to support my daughter.
