I know that I will ruffle some feathers here but I feel that this has to be said. Yesterday, a friend sent me a video that shocked me to the core. A women, I guess a preacher, in some fundamentalist Sect of Christianity, was speaking to a group of young children who were there with their parents. Did she talk about Jesus Christ and his love for children? No, she talked about the devil and how he was always trying to lure children away from God! The looks on the faces of these poor children were horrifying. Many of them could not have been more than five or six years old. Does this woman and the parents of these children have any idea of what they are doing to such young minds? Many say that video games and violence on TV is bad for children, but I can't imagine anything that could be worse then what that woman was teaching those kids. Anyone who knows the Bible knows how Jesus took little children in his arms and blessed them, how he told the adults that they must be like children. Here we have someone pretending to follow Jesus instilling in little children the very opposite of what he taught, they would have nightmares from this. I know it's possible that she may believe that she's doing right but that doesn't make it any better. With the kind of parents that would take their children to witness such a show, what kind of chance do these children have? It's no wonder our youth are turning to a life of crime.

2. lotterylover (4841) | 2 months ago | You are right. We are to expound the love of Christ first and foremost. I do remember being told that if we are tempted to do something we weren't suppose to we were listening to Satan and of course being told about the devil in the garden of Eden we knew who he was and how he tempted Eve to do wrong.

Pose123 (5823) | 2 months ago | Hi lotterylover, Thank you for this and I felt that this was something on which we would agree, scaring little children like that just isn't right. As you know I was raised in the Christian church and probably heard many of the things you did, but I was not exposed to anything close to this. At home my parents taught me about a God of love. Of course that was in a completely different time when we knew almost nothing about religions other then Christianity, today we see much that was then hidden from us by the church. Blessings.

3. sysdexlicwriter (1139) | 2 months ago | It seems that this kind of teaching elevates the power of the devil and without saying so brings down the utter supremacy of the power of God Almighty and denies all that Christ holds in the heavenly realm. The Name above all Names, victory over the enemy, etc. It does not show us the mighty power of grace and therefore nullifies what Christ did on the cross for all of us - "ALL." I have been of late going through a book by a man of the name of Joseph Prince entitled "Destined to Reign." This book is amazing. While we must be aware of the devil and his ways, we must be much more aware of the victory of Jesus on the cross. I challenge anyone who participates in this discussion either pro or con to read the above mentioned book and then return to the discussion. It sure has helped me in understanding some of the misconceptions we hold in "religion."

4. Craicha (710) | 2 months ago | children is our future....Good up-bringing of Children is not only for the good of only the parents but the nation as a whole. Most social vices occurring in the society today can be attributed to the bad up bring of children by parents. Parents must take it as a responsibility to train the future leaders of the country.

5. goldenteardrops (131) | 2 months ago | I think she should have spreaded the love of the Lord first and the rest would follow. A young child needs to learn the love is always there and love over comes evil. it is good to teach right from wrong but sometimes others teach more about evil than about good. I believe she meant well but maybe did not see as a child sees things..we should not be scared of the devil but fight him with the Word of God..

Pose123 (5823) | 2 months ago | Hi goldenteardrops, Thank you for commenting but if she meant well, she had herself been misled. I respect the teachings of Jesus but not someone scaring children like that. The church needs to get away from teaching fear if it is to survive. Blessings.

goldenteardrops (131) | 2 months ago | you are right, the only fear as stated in the Bible is the fear of the Lord. perhaps some who preach do not realize until after what they see or say. That is why all should pray before and after and be lead of God to say as he wants said, not the people themselves. thanks and God Bless

6. irishidid (3062) | 2 months ago | I think this is equally wrong to teaching small children they must be saved to go to heaven. They have no understanding of either concept. It worries me when I hear people claim they have been saved since the age of three. There's no possible way when one at that age has no idea of right, wrong, etc. Keep it simple for small children. It is one thing to teach them of the love of Christ, but to scare them into Christianity is the worst thing and it doesn't work.

7. solared (856) | 2 months ago | Depends how old were the children if they are close to 12 years old, then I see it as perfectly fine, I bet you never been in a Baptist church have ya, preachers are all screaming talking about damnation and hell and brimstone...lol

|
|
Pose123 (5823) | 2 months ago | Hi solared, Thank you for commenting but how can you say it is fine for any age group? This is not the teachings of Christ and if you've read his teachings you know that. As for going to one of those churches, a team of wild horses wouldn't drag me there and I know I would not send children to such a place. Blessings.

8. paintswithwords (319) | 2 months ago | I agree that it is not good to use fear as a motivator for obedience or adherence to a particular faith.
as a young girl in a baptist orphanage that used the fear of the devil as a discipline and I had a horrible fear of the devil and to this day I think I see shadows in the dark.
However, that being said, all religions use fear. The whole concept of hell or heaven teaches fear and uses fear to control the masses.
To answer you question. Isn't is a bit self-righteous to claim that are way is the only correct way. Should we set ourselves up as judges and say that something should not be allowed. Jesus said that we should not judge one another. He stated that one eats meat and thinks he is pleasing God, another does not eat meat and thinks he is pleasing God. The essence of the rest of that scripture goes on to say that all things are pleasing to God, meaning it is the heart's intention that the Father is looking at.
Although I was frightened by the teaching about the devil, it in no way did me excessive emotional harm and I did not become a juvenile delinquent. It is easy to judge the actions of other, but it is not the way of the true God.

Pose123 (5823) | 2 months ago | Hi paintswithwords, Thank you for commenting and while I agree with you that religion often uses fear as the means to an end, it is very wrong. You say that even today you think that you see shadows in the dark, this should never be, how many children have suffer even greater emotional harm? While I consider myself spiritual rather then religious, I like the teachings of Jesus but there are few if any churches that practice them. Blessings.

9. Kowgirl (2458) | 2 months ago | Using fear of the Devil to control children is as old as the hills. This type of preaching went out years ago when preachers started using God and love to do the same thing. When I first read this I laughed and thought this woman must have worked with the IRS at some time in her life. They use fear to get people to do what they want too. What I can't understand is why the parents didn't take their children and leave rather than let her put this fear in them. I sat in church when I was too young to understand and I lived in fear of the Devil for years. Then when I could read I read the Bible and it had many fearful things in it but the preachers had changed to preaching about love, forgiveness, and trust in God by then. I blame the parents for just sitting there and letting this happen. But then maybe this is the only way they know because they were raised that way.

Pose123 (5823) | 2 months ago | Hi Kowgirl, Thank you for your comment and I still think that it is terrible. You could hear some parents shouting "Praise the Lord" in the background. I wonder how many so called Christians still think this way? Blessings.

| 10. pk1313 (14) | 2 months ago | This shouldn't be the practice at all.But our system of education is still not that strong to follow these particular glitches of child education. I once heard about the the childhood trauma of an adult fellow who spoke of his feelings after going through the poem "Humpty Dumpty" "Jack and Jill". What had happened to Humpty Dumpty after a great fall, nobody answers. What had happened to Jack after falling and breaking his crown, nobody knows. These lovers of Jesus also are ignorant enough to give this particular aspect a thought.
