Ever gotten locked out of your house? |
|
Well it just happened to me .I had just come home from shopping when decided that I was going outside to do something .I had taken my keys out of my pocket and left them on my table and then went outside .Now my door has a latch that shuts it when its slams and 'lo and behold' after being outside for a few minutes I heard the door slam shut .
Now this is something i had always feared and whenever I am leaving my house I check my pocket oevr and over for the keys however I guess that this is just one of those days that I didnt preempt anything happening and was just off my gaurd.Luckily for me I had left a window open and managed to use my upper body strength (I have been kind of doing some exercises )and crawl through the window.I was really praying that no one saw me and mistakenly call the cops on me lol.Ironically I just saw the cops drive past.
Now has this happened to anyone and what did you do?

| 1. dreamteamgirly (12) | 2 months ago | Ronny... you should always stash a spare key somewhere. Even if it is on the opposite side of the drive way in some metal case disguised to look like a rock or anything somewhere. You dont have to be as conventional as under the floor mat but be creative and no one will find it. I let my mother borrow my SUV and forgot that I didnt have the garage door opener or my keys. When I got home with her car I had groceries and my 2yr old, and luckily we hide a spare key or I would have been in a mess of trouble. And probably not able to crawl through a window;). So maybe make a trip to home depot or lowes, or even meijer or somewhere and get one made. Good Luck glad you were able to get in.

3. Valenas (1021) | 2 months ago | I was close to getting locked out once. I generally have a key in my computer bag, but I use the Garage to enter the house. One of the dogs ran out of the front door just as I was leaving to pick up a friend, and I had to chase her down. I had locked the front door due to leaving habit, and when I came back it was locked. I tried the garage door combination and it would not open. I sat there for a few minutes angry at the dog for escaping and myself for locking the door, before realizing that I still had my cell in my pocket from contacting Mother a few minutes before leaving. I called her and explained my situation, and she told me that the garage combination had been changed. She gave me the new one and I was able to get back in. Relief!

4. coldmoon (910) | 2 months ago | The door of my house is locked by key, so I never get locked outside. It was the aim of my partner since the construction of our house. I didn't pay attention on it, but your situation tells me that it's a good idea. But in the other case, I could call for a technician to fix or even replace the lock.

5. TheAdvocate (116) | 2 months ago | No, I have never been locked out of the house because there are so many of us, there is always someone inside. But my brother did manage to lock himself out of his car while it was running. He was about to enter the garage and so he went out to open the gate manually. He forgot that the door was malfunctioning and automatically locked when it closed. So there was the car, facing the gate, the engines running without anyone inside. When he sheepishly told me what happened, all I could do was look at him and roll my eyes. Boys...

7. wahmivy (540) | 2 months ago | When I first started living on my own, I left my apartment (and the key inside) to talk quickly with a neighbor, but unthinkingly pushed the knob lock thing as I stepped out. I had to bother a few people to finally get myself back inside my apartment. That was really embarrassing.

8. lynnemg (3590) | 2 months ago | I locked my keys in the house just yesterday. Thankfully, there was one door that was still unlocked and I could get in without having to break in! It was pretty funny because I had just walked in the house because I forgot something and walked out and shut the locked door behind me. I got in my vehicle, went to start it and realized that I left my keys inside. It took me a minute to realize that there was an unlocked door that I could get in, but I was relieved that I didn't have to break into my own home.

10. happy6162 (2435) | 2 months ago | Yes, not to long ago our screen door latch lock on us. It was not completing shoved up and after the third slam it lock. My husband broke the window on the screen door and unlatched it. All the windows were locked so that was the only way we could get in. There is no key for the latch on the screen door. I have not replaced the latch yet but I alway check to make sure the latch is shoved all the way up.
