Do You Set Goals For Yourself? |
|
With the New Year just around the corner here in the US, I am sure soon people will start thinking of New Year's resolutions and things they would like to see happen or accomplished for them in 2010. Maybe you set New Years resolutions for 2009 and have seen some of them happen while others you gave up any hope on almost from the start as well.
But what I am referring too from here, is more than this. I am referring to personal Goals or Dreams and desires that you might have set up for yourself that you would Love to see get fulfilled as well. Maybe it is to Read the Bible thru, or Go Back To School and get your GED, or Bachelors or just an associates degree as well. Or maybe it is to buy a New home or car, or work on getting out of debt more as well.
Personally I think we can all benefit from setting goals in our life, and having dreams on things we would Love to see accomplished. I know I have some that I am in the process of working on, and others newly accomplished. But no matter what happens even if I find myself failing, I know I am still in control as well.
So what about you? Do you have Goals or are you just one who tends to go with the flow letting things happen and deal with it from there?

1. indahfth (1347) | 1 month ago | I prefer to let my life run away without a plan. I am often disappointed with the plan I've made. plans are not always as expected. I more often get lucky without thinking about goals. I have been more comfortable like this.

cyrus123 (1728) | 1 month ago | Somebody told me several years ago back when I was painting shirts that he learned that things don't always turn out the way you plan them. I had painted a shirt at the time that I didn't think turned out right. I was told that I had painted an original, though. Kathy.

2. Hatley (21050) | 1 month ago | hi tina I am seriously thinking of really getting that ugly fat off me, and getting my blood glucose r eadings down to normal, I think I can do it if I really really try. also learn to think positively, and do more writing, and think oh sure somebody will buy this. Maybe those are dreams but yet I could make them come true, perhaps.

KrauseHome (13460) | 1 month ago | Well, from someone who is Diabetic, and insulin dependent to boot I know that there are often a lot of factors that play a part in glucose readings but if you really learn to take part in what effects yours you can really go somewhere with making this type of wish for yourself for sure. Wishing you the Best.

3. mentalward (4292) | 1 month ago | I set goals for myself but never make New Year's resolutions. It puts too much pressure on a person, I think. My goals have no deadline, no date to be done by. When I set goals, I begin working on them right away and they'll get done when they get done. Life is short and I don't want to be stressing over reaching deadlines. I'm just happy to be alive each day. I try every day to be the best person I can be and am always open to improving myself, so I have no real need for New Year's resolutions.

4. cloudwatcher (3427) | 1 month ago | I do NOT make new year resolutions, but I am a goal-setting fanatic.
I have long-range goals detailed on my white board. I have detailed steps to attain those goals, with progress bars and dates. Every morning, my first job when starting work is to re-write my priorities list, with my daily goals, and I monitor it throughout the day.
Surveys show that only 3% of people have goals and write them down. Another 10% have goals and plans but keep them in their head. 87% drift through life without definite plans.
The 3% who have goals and write them down accomplish 50 to 100 times more than the 10% who have goals but do NOT write them down.
So, yes, I have specific, measurable goals with steps towards achievement.

I am doing Nanowrimo, a short story contest, a 30 poems in 30 days fund raiser for The Center for New Americans, a cool nonprofit near where I live, and a self inflicted 100 poems in 100 days featuring 100 prompts from my favorite local poet. I'm also posting here and at Blogit, another site I write for.

6. zed_k4 (4630) | 1 month ago | I try to. But I set realistic goals which I think I will be able to achieve. Although the goals seem impossible or a bit hard, I'll still try, as long as they are within the realistic realm. It seems so fast that 2010 is fast approaching; never really realizing it at all.

7. cyrus123 (1728) | 1 month ago | I guess I just go with the flow, myself. I used to make New Year's Resolutions all the time but I never did stick with them. As a result, I just quit making them. It is good to set goals, though. For example, I have been wanting to do a genealogy on my family for a long time. I started to do it one time but I never did finish it. I've been told that it's very interesting but it does take a lot of time. That's why I never finished it. I've had other more important things or things I wanted to do that take a lot of time as well. Maybe someday I will get around to finishing it. Kathy.

8. carmelbg (412) | 1 month ago | I do tend to let life take me along on its own path. I set myself small goals, like my news years resolution is to buckle down and learn more Bulgarian. Other than that I just generally like to see how things go, what crops up and make decisions from there.

9. hotsummer (2746) | 1 month ago | i have this goal i want to fulfill and accomplish before this year ends. i don't usually make a goal . only this one it means so much to me and i will be totally happy if i will be able to accomplish this goal as early as possible. it is not really an easy goal that i have set my mind to accomplish . it is something that i have been putting off for so many years like 16 years ago already just because of the things i have to sacrifice to fulfill this goal. but i am not getting younger and i feel that this is the time that i actually sacrifice what needs to be sacrificed to reach this goal or somewhat like a dream i had in my heart even when i was a child. i want to see this goal fulfilled in my life. this is one thing that i want to see happen while i am still alive and i can't afford to die without achieving this goal. not that i will not survive physically. but it just means so much to me like it is my greatest dream in my life.
