At what age did you or would you start to tell your children about religion?

My family took our newborns to church whenever we went. We have a family at our church who has brought their baby ever since he was born and he is now almost a year old. We also take our nieces, nephews and they are 1 and 3 years old. It is never too late to tell them or even just have them around it. They always say their little brains are like sponges and will hear about Jesus and know about Jesus while they grow up for as long as they are around it, hear it and belong to it. My little niece and son like to sing Jesus loves me and it is sooo adorable.

Well my kids of course knew about Santa before knowing about religion...I started talking to them about religion when they started asking questions..which in our case was after their brother died...I told htem of course not only about my personal path but also about other religions as well...

in the religion i am with, newborns are offered... usually their parents bring them to worship services...but when they reach the age of 4 or 5, their parents accompany & encourage them to attend children worship... yes, all children in our religion aged 4-11or 12 do have their own worship services and they were given biblical lessons that are meant for their age...and when they reach the age of 12, that's the time they will start receiving doctrines...and then baptism and after that, they will be not attending children worship anymore but they will attend our regular worship services...

Hello MAllen. I taught my children about the Lord when they were learning to read and write. I taught my children to read and write while they were still babies,2-3-4. I was brought up knowing the Lord and I thought that I should do at least as good as my mother and dad. But then a few years ago I found the way I was taught and how I taught wasn't according to the bible the way it was supposed to be written. We found this preacher by accident and found out the true word of God. And how it should be taught. This preacher has devoted his life to God and is a scholar. He don't take credit for his knowledge he teaches that God gave him everything and God gives all of us the knowledge to learn His word (Gods word). I tell about religion for my kids, when they were teens. They deepen themselves.

For me, and those that I know, have always made our young children aware of Jesus since the time they were born. Somtimes it is done on a very small scale, others drench their kids in it as much as they can. Whose to say what is right or wrong.

When they are a baby, we often put little stuffed animals in their crib, that play "Now I lay me down to sleep", or something similar. We can put little angels over their crib, or put pictures in their room of Jesus and a little baby. While they may not speak to them directly about Jesus until they get to the age of recognition, their surroundings are usually dotted with religious symbols. They may bring their babies to church, but I hardly think they would know what is really going on until they become more aware of their surroundings...babies in our church are thrilled at the sound of our organ, and scream during Mass just to hear their voices echo back..lol

I think it's great to get a child used of going every weekend, so they are accustomed to the environment and get used of going. In this way, there is no arguement as they get older, as it becomes a weekly routine that must take place.

Of course in my religion, they start going to Religious Ed, at 6, so that is when they become more knowledgeable...and at 7, they receive their First Eucharist. However, I think it would be wiser if they heard about God and Jesus at home, and not just at Religious Ed. Some families never talk about their faith at home, and leave it to the teachers, which never quite made much sense to me.

We took our babies to church as soon as they were born. They are still attending the same church of our faith. You don't wait until your children decide they want to go to school before you send them so why should we wait until they decide they want to go to church to take them.

When my kids (4 boys) were young, Santa Claus and Jesus were in the same sinking boat. I was always careful to answer their questions truthfully. When they asked, " Why is there a cross on the church steeple," I told them that the Father-God of that church allowed his only Son to be nailed to a cross even though his Son was completely innocent of the crimes of which he was accused. Their comment was "I hope you wouldn't let us be nailed to a cross." I promised them I would never let them be nailed to a cross!

My parents allow their children to accompany them as earlier even as a baby. Though at the age of reasoning all children attend mass and join in the singing and praising. Then, as the children is send to schools as earlier as 3 years old now days and they already have religion subject. It is then they receive the formal training unlike in the home they receive teaching from their parents and in schools it is the they able to understand truly the meaning of God and other concepts associated with it.

It is up to the parent to tell their child about Jesus and Santa Claus. If you don't go to church you may not tell your child about Jesus until a religious question surfaces. My daughter learned a little about God and Jesus when she was four as well as death. I explained life cycles and that when things and people die they go to heaven. We don't go to church, but we believe in God. She is not exposed to religious teachings on a regular basis so we didn't find it imperative to explain religions. I think children can learn about God as soon as they are born if the parents go to church.
